Jealous of your food decorating skillz. I'd love to see your food photographed with natural light and nice table arrangements and all that stuff.

Thanks! I have my first advanced pastry course this quarter so hopefully the pictures should be getting more exciting; I just wish I was a better photographer.

All that talk of gelato in the facerity thread almost invoked a rant about the obvious superiority of the cannoli, but I figured I could do more good here:

Delicious food all around!
I made Teriyaki Chicken today using a recipe from a simple cookbook and managed to make it look like the picture. I didn't think that could ever happen.

There's this new shop I see in Singapore that sells fruit tarts and some common Japanese fare (katsu, curry, yada, yada). I cant help but stare at those glorious glorious tarts and salivate.

Unfortunately, many Japanese patrons say that they are only good aesthetically, and tastewise, it tastes like shit. D:

In my experience, tarts like that can be hit-or-miss. I've had amazing Asian desserts and I've had what amounted to tasteless blobs of cream. Generally I like the simpler, more traditional stuff, it can be relied on to be good.

You're going to end up with a right mess from the icing when you try to separate them though. Yum.

Thanks guys. Kells is already Queen of Cupcakes and natraj apparently makes kickass cupcakes so I think all cupcake titles are taken though.

I worked at Cookies by Design for 4 years so I have some extensive decorating experience. Most bouquets on their site I've done at least once. : )

So the "Queen of Cupcakes" and "Makes Kickass Cupcakes" titles are taken?...

I propose a new title for our Sungura of the Cupcakes: "Cupcake Empress".

Or "Cupcake Wizard", or "Our Lady Sungura of the Cupcake", or "Holy Crap Amazing Cupcakes", whichever works.

There's something psychologically appealing about a stack of cookies. A loose pile looks like a plate of cookies to be shared with all the other kids. A stack looks like WHEE THEY'RE ALL MINE! ALL MINE!!!!

ahem So yeah, good call on the stacking.

Amy, those are utterly glorious cupcakes/works of art. You are a genius in nearly uncountable ways. And I also miss your LHC title...that was one of my cleverer moments.

I am indeed the Queen of Cupcakes, although sadly I do not make as many as I would like to. :( Silly college gets in the way of that a bit too often. But I remain a connoisseur of the form, as can be evidenced by my frequent visits to Seattle's notorious Cupcake Royale. Not my baking, but my photos:

Yep, baked. Based on a combination of a few different recipes, the cheesecake part just being a basic baked cheesecake with blueberries thrown in (literally) while pouring the batter. The base is a layer of shortcrust pastry, then blueberry jam, then a thin slice of sponge.

Still got half of it left, but I doubt it'd survive a trip to Perth, sorry. :P

and to make up for the fail of the onion rings thread I've decided to share some food that i've cooked...
Start with your ingredients, say lamb
Image

Make some bread. I didn't have a recipe for this one, its soy and linseed.
Image

Cook your lamb in the oven at 150C for a couple of hours

Bread comes out

Add hand made goats cheese (lebne)

Serve

No. The base uses 5 of the eggs (I think? maybe four?). I separate to whites and yolks, whip up the whites and then fold into the rest (chocolate, butter, yolks and so on). This makes it very fluffy and it rises well in the oven. Then I pour the mousse on top of it and let cool. Doesn't even need a freezer (mousse is made primarily with chocolate, whipped cream and eggs). There's some amaretto liquor in it (almond liquor) but not too much and you could replace it with some other suitable alcohol.

Mmmmmm...that sounds like a combination of several things I already make. (There's a frozen one that my brother thinks is the best thing ever, with a baked biscuit base, but you need at least three bowls for separated eggs and cream and drives me crazy. It's easy to get right, but takes for...ev...er...)

Wow, it was worth the wait! They look like they're from some event. A wedding perhaps? Guesses to contents:
First is some sort of poppy soufflé with caramelized bananas and whipped cream, with some berry ice cream.
Second is um... I forgot how it's called, but it looks like a pastry, I would guess filled with vanilla-flavored cream. It's resting on top of ice cream with (possibly) passion fruit frosting, which is also used for the see-through leaf? Or maybe it's all pineapple, like the cube on the side. Makes more sense (no passion fruit seeds).
Third is another soufflé, not chocolate but possibly dates? Or just caramel or something simple. Vanilla pudding, ice cream and deep fried honeyed drops of flour (reminds me of a Moroccan dish).

How far off am I?
