Final Fantasy Omnithread - All FF, all the time.

I wonder how many people will say FFVII. I HIGHLY disagree with it being the best. But this isn't about which is better. It's just your personally favorite.

For me that one was FFIX because it was my first for RPGs. And i doubt i'll like any summon more than Ark. That guy is... utterly the best summon scene to watch.

I still have to play III and VI, which i hear are also very good as well.

So your favorite one? and why?

(I don't want to make this a poll because the Japanese versions differ from the English, and i do not know which ones go with which ones, so if someone helps me i can make a poll, but not until i can straighten that out.)

FFVI is hands down my favorite. Locke is just the most spectacular thief...err treasure hunter there is. Plus, Mog. Mog in all his dancing, Moogle pike glory. So much adoration for that game.
Seriously, the villain (Kefka) was so much more hardcore than girly girly Sephiroth with his indeterminable gender and oversized sword. Yes, yes, you can swoosh around and perform some awful Meteor Strikes, but you will always have just one wing. And that means you can only fly in a circle.

You're so right. I played it over again with my at-the-time boyfriend, and he almost pissed himself. He couldn't believe that a video game villain actually succeeded in destroying the world.

Plus: You could let Cid die. That was magical.

I agree that VI was great, but I'll stick with IV as my favorite.

But I also really liked XII. The gambit system is a really great feature and I hope it sticks around.

The only one that I've hated was VIII.

I'm going to be controversial and say Crystal Chronicles!

It's a great game, with awesome multiplayer co-op too. I kind of forget the story, and to be fair it is kind of forgettable, since I haven't started a new game in years, spending all my time running around with my party of awesomeness. Great design, awesome music, superb boss battles blah blah blah. I'm probably a little biased, since my (now ex) GF and I spent hours playing it together, good times, good times. Maybe I'm also a little crazy but I actually seem to care about all my party members. I even went so far as to print out a document where I could keep track of equipment, items, artefacts ect. that all my party members had too.

Actually, the only other ones I've played are the GBA Dawn of Souls remakes of 1 and 2. I finished 1, it was quite good, 2 I started, then accidentally wandered too far without saving and ran into a monster that slaughtered me and I haven't gone back yet.

FFVII here too. The futuristic feel was much needed in an FF, and I thought that the characters were stellar.

Yeah, FFVII just for the sheer amount of debate that was engendered over the story afterwards; I love a game that does that.

Time for an out-of-nowhere one... FFIII, the DS remake! Hah! Love that game. The cute little guys in their (often awesome) costumes look wonderful compared to the generally comparatively enormous and powerful-looking monsters. Also, the combat system rocked, much better than 'active time battle' in my opinion. Who creates a turn-based system which isn't a turn-based system, anyway?

Also, turning the lead character of the party into a Red Mage gave him an absolutely rockin' pimp hat and red coat...

Actually, my disagreement is out of thinking VI did a far better job of making me give a rat's ass about any of the characters. Aeris dies. Do I weep for her? No, I don't give a rat's ass. Celes singing at the opera, Cyan's lost family, Terra's lack of purpose in life, Setzer's troubled past, Locke's perceived failure to the one he loves...these are characters I FEEL for.

Cloud and Tifa can't figure out if they're in love? Boo hoo. Cid couldn't fly to the moon? Wah. Vincent is a vampire? ...wtf?

FFVI just has more depth to the characters, a trend which I'm glad XII at least sort of returned to. (Balthier is a great character, Penelo not so much.)

VI. Though VII is also awesome. I really enjoyed VIII (except for the plot twist but I can forgive that), X and XII. Didn't like IV at all and I'm not particularly fond of IX.

However, if you include the "non-canon" titles, I'd have to say FFX-2. Just kidding (although I think it's very underrated). My favorite of all FFs would be Tactics. Wonderful story, music and gameplay. Must've played it about 10 times, maybe more.

I tend to classify my villains by way of their goals/attitudes vis-a-vis me or my character.

Kefka pretty much hated you and wanted you to die. He enjoyed killing people. He was maniacal and *evil*.

Sephiroth....just didn't care that everyone else was *there*. People were just....kindof annoying noisy things that he only noticed if they were in his way.

Which is why I just put them in different boxes in my head.

I have played neither FFT nor FFVI. Both of those are things I will change someday, but am not in a hurry to do.

Of the FFs I've played (1-4, 7-9), VII is my favorite, but I have most of the same problems with it that I had with every other FF I've played.

There are GBA versions of IV, V, and VI. No actual remake like III, if that's what you're going for. A 3D version of IV is in the works.

VII was my favorite. It has a special spot in my heart where it resides for all eternity.

Seph is the best villain. evar. and the scene where he turns around and walks through the flames of the burning Nephilim(sp?) is the best cutscene. evar. That image was the background on my computer for much of my youth.

It's hard to say exactly since I enjoyed these for different reasons...

I'd have to say VIII is the one I enjoyed most. I loved the world, atmosphere, and music more than any others. The card game was also exelent.

I've probably spent more time playing tactics than any other Final Fantasy. You have such amazing freedom with your character development.

Final Fantasy VI has a great variety of characters. It was hard to choose just which ones to use since they could all be awesome. It was fun all around.

Final Fantasy X has the best characters for me. The quality of the voice acting helped immensely.

Final fantasy XII has the best combat system and by far the best boss battles.

My first four in the final battle was Terra, Celes, Edgar, and Gau, and no one died the entire time. Gau as "Wind Demi-God" (I was playing Advance so the old "Wind God" wasn't possible), Edgar jumping like nobody's business, Terra and Celes casting Ultima repeatedly and maybe healing when necessary. I had done a ton of training until I was regularly finishing off Dinosaur Forest monsters in two or three hits, so it turned out pretty easy.

I love 6 like nobody's business, and beat it recently. It was delicious.

I was surprised at how good the music was in VI, so much so that when I played it on an emulator, I almost NEVER turbo'ed it...
That's high praise from me...
