Metal gear?!?

Postby Stief » Sun Jul 22, 2007 4:30 pm UTC

I was shocked to notice there wasn't a Metal Gear Solid topic here

(there might be, I'm too lazy to look :P)

anyways, What does everyone like/dislike about it? Favourite game?

MGS1 was the best in my opinion, but MGS3 with the CQC brought something new into it....:D

I was able to climb all the way up to #10 in the VS Rating ranks in MGS3: Subsistence online before losing interest. It was fun while it lasted, but the lag made in nigh unplayable sometimes. Anyone who isn't familiar with the game shouldn't cry foul over the lag complain: it was honest to goodness terrible. Shots would take up to a second or two to register, meaning a shotgun blast wouldn't down an opponent till a moment or two later. Throws would often vacuum you to the ground because the opponent was able to catch you on their end while you were far away on yours. You could die behind walls without anyone ever seeing you because they saw where you were 5 seconds ago.

A little bit of lag compensation and better netcode would've done wonders. Also, instant kill stabs aren't very fun at all.

I think MGS1 was the first to force you to switch to p2 slot for a boss fight. that was ingenious, but when i first played the game, i was already on that side. So i was like huh? XD

MGS2 was also very fun, especially the one leg one arm and radio shoot off and torturing your victim. god... so funny.

I agree....Sadism was the best part of MGS2 :P (in my opinion anyway :D)

Mgs3 took that up a notch as well :P

My favourite characters from the series are;

MGS1-Ocelot/Psycho Mantis/Liquid Snake/Sniper Wolf/Gray Fox
MGS2-Ocelot/Otacon/Vamp/Fatman
MGS3-Ocelot/any of the bosses, really :P

Oh, and Snake isn't in those lists because he is automatic Win

I'll post it here, too, because this is my favorite MGS2 moment:

Colonel:
Raiden, turn off the game console right now!
Raiden:
What did you say?
Colonel:
The mission is a failure! Cut the power right now!
Raiden:
What’s wrong with you?
Colonel:
Don’t worry, it’s a game! It’s a game, just like usual.
Rose:
You’ll ruin your eyes by playing so close to the TV!

that's very much, like how if you decide to kill Ocelot in the past, you create a time paradox and the game ends. XD

Easily one of my favorite video game series, ever.

My lack of a PS2 though, kind of limited my exposure. That is, until the Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance port onto Xbox, and then Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes from the gods at Silicon Knights on GameCube.

So much win in this series, it's crazy.

I'm slightly annoyed that Twin Snakes didn't come to PS2 ¬_¬ I mean, why bring out an exceedingly good game, and then remake it in glorious MGS2 style, and not bring it out on it's main platform?

WHY I ASKS YA! :P

Because Nintendo and Konami had an exclusive agreement. And Silicon Knights wouldn't work on any other platform than GameCube because it was the superior platform.

Yes:

Denis Dyack wrote:And at the time the GameCube was on leading edge hardware. I believed that, I still believe that. I think the GameCube was an awesome system. I thought it got a really bad rap. I thought it was, in my opinion, significantly better hardware than the PS2, but sales didn’t reflect that.

I know what you mean; I never got to play Twin Snakes either. And now, with MGS4 going on the PS3 exclusively, I don't know how long it'll be before I get to play it, either--I'd rather not buy a system for one game. Too bad there's no chance of a PC port of it.
