As I Lay Dying Socialism

Postby Sir-Taco » Wed Mar 17, 2010 4:55 pm UTC

So for an AP English assignment we're supposed to invent some sort of demonstration. This has to include classmates and for us, potray an interpretation of the novel through a socialistic scope. (As in classes, gender diff, ect) We have an idea to demonstrate have-and-have-not by splitting the class into two sides, then giving one side some sort of material that has value. Most likely something edible, because upper classmen tend to eat pretty much anything with sugar in it. However we want to tie it closer to the scope of As I Lay Dying, any ideas on how to do this?

Privilege. Basically you want to demonstrate that one group has power over another due to materialistic wealth, biological sex, etc..., then figure out how to do that in a way ties in with the book.

Simply giving one side candy doesn't exactly go far enough without tying that back into how that gives them power over the group. I do suppose that you could entice the haves to cut off a small sliver to pay the have nots for an inordinate amount of labor that produces even more goodies for the haves, but I'm not so sure that you really need to get that indepth into the Labor Theory of Value.
