I had a similar experience with Get Smart and Inspector Gadget... and Don Adams was even playing basically the same character in both (I think I read somewhere that the latter was at least inspired by the former?)... but even though I watched both at around the same time in my childhood, I still never spotted it until I happened to spot the name in the credits one day, long after I stopped following either show.
