I think I would. I very nearly cried to see the empty barrel. I'm not sure if I want to admit that, but I did.

I know, it's still sad he lost his barrel

And it was quite a few comics before he was saved!

I giggled like a schoolgirl when I saw the empty barrel...I'm still angry at Randy for having him rescued.
I may be a bad person...

De you deliberately generate negative situations in order to feed on the reaction? - Giggling or otherwise?
If the answer is no, then I don't think you're a bad man.
Just a sick one

Jealousy is a disease, love is a healthy condition. The immature mind often mistakes one for the other, or assumes that the greater the love, the greater the jealousy.

I was so sad when the barrel was empty...and then so happy when he flew into the sunset... I enjoy endings that involve sunsets, I must admit.
And flying otters.

The first one about the ferret (
http://xkcd.com/c20.html) made me really sad... then the last one in the barrel series made me happy. I have a ferret myself, I would love to see her fly...

http://xkcd.com/1/Alt Text: Don't we all.
Jeez all you people looking to post a comic discussion thread are completely missing out on the piles of comics which don't have threads to discuss them in. That being said I present to you the long over do Comic 1 discussion thread.
Oh and for the requisite personal insight: I personally feel like this all the time.

Maybe there hasn't been a discussion because nobody has thought one necessary?
The purpose of this forum isn't 'who can make the most comic discussion threads', you know.
The only thing you contributed was the 'pre-requisite personal insight', which was essentially an iteration of the alt-text.
That being said, may as well actually discuss something if this has been made. I just hope this doesn't turn into some stupid board-wide comic-dredging contest.

Actually the point was more to poke fun at the people who try desperately to post the Discussion thread. Also alot of these comics I think are worth some discussion, I've certainly used alot of these older comics offline and shown them to other people. As for the insightful comment, I find alot of them to be rather lacking and just a quick sentence designed meant to be just within the rules.

Durandal. If you had joined 3 days later, your yelling would not be acceptable :p
Anyways, maybe he'll visit the penguins on his long sea journeys.

It's just a shame no flying ferret is going to come save us.

I'm not sure I follow.
Edit: Ah. I see. That would have placed my join date after his.
Still, not sure how that applies, unless you're into the argumentum ad hominem style of debate.

Eh. I was going for more of the "I've been here longer so don't tell me what to do thing", although I don't follow it or anything.

We should put all of the 'Barrel' comics into one discussion.

I was just struck by how appropriate a beginning it is for what has become a truly incredible journey of reading through XKCD. My question is this: How many of these comics did Mr. Monroe have completed before beginning to post? I'm sure it was no accident that he began with this particular strip.

IIRC, Randall started xkcd by uploading scans of sketches he made in high school, so he knew that this was the sketch to put up first
