Re: The "I Did Good" thread
Someone actually mentioned running barefoot and working up to 1-2 miles to toughen my feet. Will probably start that soon.

Re: The "I Did Good" thread
Maybe. But I tend to find the bottleneck isn't the soles of my feet but the sides, where there's friction with my shoes.
I tend to learn which areas blister and put plasters on before I start - prevent them from wearing as quickly. I also sometimes cover everything else with parcel tape (I've heard of duct tape and some kind of specialised runner's tape - parcel tape is cheap, however - and I imagine peeling off duct tape would hurt a *LOT*!)

Re: The "I Did Good" thread
After 2 months of not drinking beer and going out for walks in the evening, I can once again do the top collar button up on my second tightest shirt. I can also fit into some of my old jeans again.
Once I get rid of the belly, I can go back to drinking beer with impunity. For a while.

Re: The "I Did Good" thread
I just completed a mini-ironman. 5k run 0.5k swim and 20k bike. I'm terrible at swimming, and hadn't trained at all, so I didn't push myself to my limit... But I feel good. Woot!

I can fit into my old suit again! It's a bit of a squeeze, but I can fit! SWEET!

After less than a year of strength training, my lifts are all in the 'intermediate' category of the exrx lifting standards, excluding bench press.

my accomplishment feels lame- I started a food journal. (desk job with head set that doesn't give a whole lot of exercising options.) I hope to celebrate more firsts soon- like actually using the exercise tapes I have with my one year old.

mine is good- lost 14 pounds in a week now lets see if i can maintain it
Re: The "I Did Good" thread
Small "good" thing for me too. Was burnt-out on running after the 5 months training for the marathon and had decided that I was done running and never wanted to deal with the bloody toe nails, joint pain or tendon pain again.
After a month with no running I went for a run yesterday and it felt great. Reminded me of how much I love short/mid distance running and how good I feel after a nice run. Back into running, but limiting myself to half marathons for the foreseeable future.

You won't be able to maintain that because almost all of that will have been water weight. To lose that much fat, you'd have to be on a 7000kcal per day deficit. Which is impossible unless you're starving yourself and running marathons every day.

Re: The "I Did Good" thread
I did good! I mean, really good!
Managed to haul my 'haven't-been-to-the-gym-in-months'-ass down to the gym today, and found out that I wasn't nearly as out of shape as I would have expected after 4 months with no training besides biking from place to place.
AND I then managed to not just try and jump right back to my old schedule!*
*Injuries lay down that way my experience tells me!

Re: The "I Did Good" thread
After push pressing 127lb off the racks on friday for a max double, managed to muscle clean and push press 149lb for a max single- 22lb gain in 3 days! I was fairly happy with that. Tried to get 154lb several times, but failed to lock it out on each one, which was rather disapointing because that would be a bodyweight push press. I'm sure I'll be able to reach that this friday though. Still good news, seeing as though 154lb is what I was hoping to hit by the end of the summer.
edit: My shoulder strength appears to be shooting up, because 2 days after my 22lb strength gain in push press I managed to strict press 132lb for a single - a 5lb gain on my push press double 5 days earlier, and a 11lb gain or so on my previous press max.

got up to 120 kg squat for 3x3.
I can appreciate why they call it a full-body workout. Even the muscles under my chin are sore from grimacing so much.

Just the usual stuff: exercise and calorie reduction.
I went from ~3500 Calories a day to ~2300 Calories a day. Not at once though, I eased into that kind of reduction. Its not that hard either if you replace the junk food with high fiber stuff like fruits, and start the day with a high protein and fiber breakfast, e.g. a fried egg and a bowl of Fiber One cereal. I also have been exercising more consistently. Nothing serious, just bodyweight exercises like pull ups, push ups, lunges and squats. (The latter two end up being more cardio than anything else.)
One time I was so traumatized by an event that I spoke only in rhyme for about an hour.

Re: The "I Did Good" thread
After regular PT (sprints / relays for about half an hour) I went and took a 90 minute hot yoga class. I've only ever been motivated enough to do that once before. It kicked my ass then. It kicked my ass today. My kneecaps were sweating. But I did it.

Finally started running again, for the first time in about 4 years. Am remembering why I stopped in the first place

Re: The "I Did Good" thread
Hiked to the top of 13,757 ft peak. Started at 11,500 so only 2200 feet of elevation gain but since it was only a 6 mile trail(round trip) it was plenty steep.
Re: The "I Did Good" thread
I started a MyPlate yesterday (and didn't do so well). But today I ate 1051 calories and burned 282.

Aletschhorn? Thats fairly serious even in the summer

Edit: I cycled 30 miles up the ogwen valley worked a full day and came back, I can't decide what hurts more, my thighs or the massive incessant grin.

Re: The "I Did Good" thread
It was actually Square Top Mountain http://www.summitpost.org/mountain/rock/151642/square-top-mountain.html Pretty low on the list of highest mountains in colorado at 111 but still a great view.
This weekend was Bergen Peak. Only a 9700 feet peak, but 2000 feet of elevation gain and 10.1 mile loop.
60 miles in a single day is pretty impressive. Hope you were on a road bike and not a mountain bike.

I only own a MTB, it weighs less than most road bikes, but isn't as ergonomic to be in the saddle for that long...

I'll be getting a CX bike (think a roadbike with knobbly tires and better brakes) once I'm financially stable...

Rode 85km on my singlespeed today. 55km singletrack/firetrail, 5km on the road and the rest on bike paths.
It was more tiring than I had hoped it would be.

Re: The "I Did Good" thread
woke up this morning and decided to run 7.1 miles as XC training. Usually I need to really push myself to run 5 during training for the season but I decided to just go out and do 7.1 miles with 3 of those miles being a hill.

Re: The "I Did Good" thread
10k at 10k elevation. Did this with family so I ended up just doing a fast walk(14 minute miles).
3.27 obstacle run at 8k elevation. Did this with a slightly out of shape friend so ended up with 15 minute miles. There was a pretty substantial hill in this and obstacles(mud pit, hay bales, tire run, 3 foot wall of fire, etc..) that pulled the time down.
Didn't get much of a workout in either but I did get a couple nice shirts and had a ton of fun. Nothin says fun like a 50 foot long 12 inch deep mudpit with barbed wire runnin atop it.

I had leftover sandwiches for my lunch. I sat and ate them in the canteen with my friends who all had chips or curry, which smelled great. I walked back to my desk, past the cafe, without buying a latte and/or a muffin.

That is a truly admirable achievement. Nice smelling food is the worst distraction from a healthy lunch.

Re: The "I Did Good" thread
Bad weather and a full agenda kept me off my bike for most of last week, but today the weather cleared up and I did a good ride. I feel great for doing it and I think I even clocked my highest average speed so far (24 km/h)
Quack!

Re: The "I Did Good" thread
I did real good today!
Managed to get down to the gym and work out, after not having done it regularly for quite a while.
Even better, t turns out that my fitness hasn't deteriorated nearly as much as I feared - I started out gently to test my limit, and it took much longer to find them than I had anticipated*.
And no, I'm not stupid enough to think that it means I can just jump back to my old training schedule.
*Which is good, since I got the motivation from realising how close my snowboard trip is, and being unfit for that is a bad idea. I'm going in week 9, so I wont be as fit as I could wish for it, but it's not completely hopeless

Gah, you beat me to posting here! I was gonna bring it back, heh... but awesome to you!
Got up early for, like, the first time this year. WiiFit Yoga, cardio, All Bran & a coffee. Feeling ok, not too exhausted given the hour, and now that my alarm clock is behind the dresser, I will try to do this every day!

Re: The "I Did Good" thread
I have always been a slow runner but this year was determined to get faster. Started training hills and sprints 6 weeks ago and did my first official 5k on Sunday(Polar Bear Classic). Time was 26:45 which is 4 minutes faster than my previous best. New goal for the year is going to be 25 minutes.

Ran two miles in 16 minutes and 57 seconds today. I'm trying to get back into running for track this year. It will also help for basketball (even though the season is half over).

Re: The "I Did Good" thread
I did good. Today I really wasn't motivated to go to the gym and lift, but I made myself do it anyway. As soon as I was done with my warm-up, I felt a lot better about it, and I went on to tie my PR on squats, 135, and set a new PR on bench, 125. I'd done almost a full set at 125 on Wednesday, but I needed help on the last rep. Today it was all me. Maybe on Friday, if I have a spotter, I can do 135. I look forward to being able to bench a set with a 45 on each end of the bar.
Re: The "I Did Good" thread
Good work! Though if you didn't get 125 last time, it's probably time to go to 5lb increases rather than jumping straight to 135.
