Steven Erikson (About Midnight Tides)

Postby Converge » Wed Aug 04, 2010 10:30 pm UTC

So I've been reading Mr. Eriksons books for around 3 months now and I'm almost done with the 5th book Midnight TIdes. BUT, while reading this book in particular it's just been bothering me that the story took such a 360 like it did. House of Chains took place after Trull Sengar had been banished and the T'lan Imass (I totally forgot his name) saved him but then in Midnight Tides it's when Trull actually lived in his village. I understand that stories don't have to follow an order in particular but it just feels like the story has no importance to me (Though it's still a great book). I guess I was wondering if anyone else was bothered by this also.

Edit : God, I wrote this over the course of about an hour while busy at work and the grammar is pretty horrendous.

Midnight Tides was a rather strange book, yes. It somewhat bothered me, too, but in providing further backstory about the Titse Edur, the fate of Scandabari, the whereabouts of (some of) the Elder Gods and the rise of the Letherii Empire, it fills a gap in the story which becomes important later on in the series. It's not entirely superfluous, but I do wonder why it wasn't the fourth book.

So...After I finished the book I'm still left wondering. Why was Trull banished in the previous book? Unless I just completely missed something I don't understand. IT'S EATING ME ALIVE AHHHH.

Please don't let me have missed something uber important ):
