I'm mostly confused as well. The semi-openness is making it difficult for me to devise a strategic playstyle, which I'll admit is somewhat paralyzing. I may be a good choice, given that there is not much about me to be analyzed and you have the actual actions I performed. Best choice would of course be scum, but I'm probably not the worst townee to lose.

The outsider, Laurence Heath, was shuffling about, clearly already bored with the suburban street he had been tasked to investigate. Brandon Sharpe was more upbeat, however.

"Why do we have to go investigate houses?" Lawrence complained, "I mean they're pretty much the same anyway and I always feel way too weird actually looting, I mean it could be your house for all you know."

Brandon rolled his eyes. "Look what I discovered in that last house." He drew a photograph from his pocket, clearly taken a few years ago. "Doesn't this look like Bignose? Look at the message: 'I told you I'd end up in your office one day'. It's signed 'Johnnie Caldwell'. The nameplate on the desk says 'Dean Davidson MD'. I'd guess he's the town doctor. Now to figure out who Dean is, he might be able to help us."

"Put it back already! Doesn't it weird you out that someone else could be out looting your home?" Lawrence shot back.

"Alright already," Brandon said, raising his hand in a gesture of surrender, "Geez, I thought you'd be more interested."
I think I've worked some of this out:
Laurence Heath and Brandon Sharpe are the Cop and Watcher with LH being the Watcher (lazy). They already know this because they should have got the results back.
Did they both target the same person, hence working together?

I also have ideas about me and Dean, whereby Dean targeted me or I targeted Dean and this states that something happened. That could mean that either he or I is/was the Mirror or Switcher. The MD is just simply part of your RoleName.
If it was because I targeted the Dean, then ofcourse, I know who Dean is. If Dean targeted me, then he knows who I am. But that has been expanded now, so that everyone knows who I am.
If we are saying that the Blocker could be a Doctor, then what is the purpose other than to help 'clear things up' and I was the random target.
RoadieRich wrote:The flavour was randomly targeted. There are no powers we have not told you about.

Information in all posts made by the mods is 100% accurate — if you interpret it correctly.

We decided that you were struggling more than we had hoped, so we posted the flavour to help you figure things out.
There is one assumption you have all implicitly made that is skewing your whole view of the roles in this game.

It was not triggered by a power, so I suppose you could call it modly intervention.

The assumption you are making is that a role called doctor in flavour will always be identified as a doctor. The OP was not lying and the flavour was accurate - the role that is referred to in the flavour is listed in the OP, but it is listed by it's one-word rolename, not it's full rolename, much as the flavour-cop was only listed as "cop".

I've just taken a quick look at Doctor roles on the mafia wiki, and two possibilities stand out that could fit in with the OP roles.

1. Naïve Doctor (a.k.a. Quack): This doctor's protection is ineffective.

This would mean that DD is (at least for now) the vanilla player.

2. Paranoid Doctor : This doctor not only protects his patient but he also roleblocks him. See also, Jailkeeper.

This would mean DD is (at least for now) a roleblocker.

I can see it as a Roleblocker targeting the destination rather than the source.
That is, a standard Doctor role, but the block is not on the scum killer, but on the scum killers' target. Thus the target is saved from the kill and the Scum kill is blocked.

Is this a one-off 'flavour' post, or will more follow on sucessive days?

Now we're getting into territory about how much we want to analyze for fear of hurting town. But I'm going to assume that scum is at least as wildly conjectural as I and could come up with this as well...

roband was targeted by two "cops" [BigNose was targeted by three "cops", but it hardly enters into the picture here, as he can't be the "doctor" of the flavor]. The flavor could be describing the investigations on roband (in which case he is the "doctor"/Roleblocker? who targeted BigNose). Note that MoA was also targeted by two, but I'm kind of discarding this datum because of Entropy's further caveats about his result.

One of the "cops" says that he is town, the other scum. This could fall either way, I suppose. A Watcher would get a result that "Roband targeted BigNose" (which is even borne out by Roband's claim -- he targeted BigNose and presumably got no result, so reported something at random), and as such, would not know for sure what he was and presumably randomize. The actual cop presumably got a result on roband, and then, if the cop was town, reported it correctly, and if the cop was scum, reported it incorrectly.

This is tending to give me a positive view of Roband, but it is not certain, as we don't know which cop is which, or indeed whether both cops are town. Maybe MoA and Misnomer can get us more light on the subject.

Good second-leg work mpolo.
Given the response from the Mod and mpolo's view, I recommend that we stop the mass cop-claim, or atleast review it.
These Modly postings can be analysed in depth, but if we include who we investigated, while we could be helping Town, I think this could just as easily aid Scum a whole lot more.

If everything that I mused were correct, we would have a probable townies:

roband
MoA
Misnomer

Blocked and therefore uncertain: BigNose (from other arguments, I tend to think that he is also town)

Entropy has been lurky, is resigned to being lynched. But also tried to provide more information on his cop than was strictly required by our plan.

So (assuming there is any merit to what I have mused) we should be looking hard for scum among:
mister k
NotARaptor
Lataro
Dr Ug

I am probably taking my theory too seriously here. But maybe it's a start.

Unvote: Entropy

to guarantee some discussion time.

Every time I view this page, all I keep thinking is that this game is getting so bogged down in technical detail stuff, that I'd rather put a gun to my head then understand what everyone is getting at.

Can we go back to playing Mafia people?

Yeah, I've been finding it hard to get into for that reason...

So to get back to the game, I have seen tells from two people, and think one of them should be lynched.

Entropy was lurking, and in response to pressure told us who he actually targetted and that he didn't get a result. This is almost and "I'm vanilla" claim, and a bit dubious. He has also said he wouldn't mind being lynched. He'd probably be my number one pick.

BigNose's "I don't have a win condition" is the only other one.

I'd be happy with either, but Entropy's apathy is making me want to

However, when I went looking for this post, I also found this one:
BigNose wrote:We are all supposedly suffering from Amnesia, so about the only thing we are likely to 'know' from our PM's is our RoleName (not RealName) and whether we are a Scientist or not.
Which was actually from Day 1, where you don't make the same slip (the first quote is from D2). This somewhat conforts me, in that it is more likely the "no one knew their allegiance" thing was probably a slip, rather than a (probably badly considered) scum strategy.

I am still happy with lynching Entropy.

Fair enough.

I also agree from way before, that that Flavour does not clear me, though neither does it implicate me.
What it could do, is identify me to my scum buddies (if I had them), so that they knew who I is.

I'm not Scum, but I have to make the point, so that Town are aware.

Sorry, I've lost track of this game, but I think its worth revealing some stuff at this point, as I don't think an entropy lynch is sensible.

I be a cop, and I got Ug as scum last night. I think this is information worth dying over, as I'm being useless to town in this game.

Except that scum doesn't know who their scumbuddies are (yet), so theoretically can't be busing one another. And our examination of the flavor makes it somewhat unlikely that Dr Ug is really a cop, unless we're interpreting badly or people lied on their cop claim targets (which is a distinct possibility).

I don't know why you decided to do this. But, we certainly have enough town left to survive a mislynch if you are just scum trying some sort of gambit. (10 players alive, most likely 2 scum, so even if we can survive losing 3 or even 4 townies.)

So, yeah, might as well follow the cop. And, if Dr Ug isn't scum then tomorrow's lynch is pretty obvious.

Tired from looting searching the houses for clues, everyone met up as planned once again in the town square. It seemed the search had been largely unfruitful; no-one could find anything out of the ordinary. Angered by their failure, they followed the suggestion of misterk, who was angry at Dr Ug for stepping over his foot as they had ran away the previous day. Dr Ug was left out in the night to freeze after taking all items of value from his person - including a mobile phone. During the night, it beeped with a received text message from someone called John Hudso. No one owned up, and apparently no one knew the unlock code to read it.

Deadline for the night is 24 hours from now. Any targets not received by that time will be randomised.

Braving themselves for the sight they would see, they set off in search of Dr Ug who they had left outside to freeze. With a great sense of deja vu, they watched in great disgust the twisting and molten body of Dr Ug, savaged by something during the night.

Suddenly they realized that misterk was missing. Concerned for the great hero of yesterday who had helped them come one step closer to finding out the cause of this fog and stopping it, they set off in different directions to look for her. They found her lying outside the police station, her hand clearly clutching some notes. Unfortunately, those were far to smudged to make anything out of. As for the body? It seemed like someone had followed her out here and murdered her brutally.

Meanwhile, the fog was starting to have some delayed effects on those who received the largest dose.

Dr Ug was Brandon Sharpe, Scum Switcher.
misterk was Margaret Finley, Town alignment cop.

D3 has started.

8 alive, 5 to lynch.

Well, the good news, the switchers are gone completely now. We all can rest confident in the role we have being the role we'll have for the rest of the game. The bad news is we have no cops either.

What sticks out the most to me about last night is that we have 2 killers plus the mafia NK in the game, and only one person died. This suggests two possibilities that come to my mind...

1. Killers and mafia all targeted mister k. This would suggest that everyone with a kill power is anti-town.
2. the two blockers, be they role blockers or doctors, prevented a kill each. This leads me to wonder why a doctor didn't protect a claimed cop, unless the last scum is a scum doctor, or a non-town aligned indie has a doctor.

Since people can not withhold targeting someone, it stands to reason that all three kills were attempted. Before we can make too many assumptions though, I'll ask the following question.

Mods: If a doctor targets someone, does it prevent all kills, or just one kill, then if another is targeted, it goes though?

If the answer is all kills, I'd be interested in hearing who the role blocker (assuming there is one, and not just two doctors) targeted last night, as that'll have a high probability of them leading us to scum or a non-town indie.

Thoughts from others before any claims are made here?

The blockers work against all actions.

I am pretty convinced that I have a kill (based on Felltir dying -- I got no result back, and no one else claims to have targetted him).

I targeted Lataro last night, with no result.

There is the possibility you are a mirror or vanilla, and someone else had targeted him and not claimed it, odds are scum would not be like, "yeah, I killed so and so"

Ignoring that though, if you thought you had a kill, why on earth did you target me with it?

I targetted BigNose. I don't know what that did, exactly.
