Wild Wasteland Sighting in the Ultra-Lux - and I had to read the Fallout Wiki to get it, as the Wild Wasteland thing popped up, I looked around and didn't see anything abnormal.

Spoiler:
You enter the room of an investigator and he's lying on the floor. He's got red hair, sunglasses, a nice suit and is named Crusoe.

And it seems he isn't very....

Rex did do the whole "Timmy fell down the well?" thing with me. That one counts. There's the corpses in Nipton. I found them. Apparently there's a ghost train.

This may help. Sadly, after seeing the Kings, I thought this was just another weird gang with which I'd have dealings. I was disappointed when I realized what it was and that it would be all there was.

I love doing that. It's the best part of the game. Wandering into a place, and stealing everything that isn't nailed down (well, ok not everything... I've realized that having 50 million cups isn't really worth the caps...).

The only duffle bag I've found was in the gas station in wellsprings.

They're all over the place, in remote places like caves. There's one near the Yangtze memorial that's really sweet to grab early in game.

I've found Raiders and Powder Gangers carrying mugs around a lot. I mean, what is that? You don't need a mug, first off we're having a shootout to the death here, now is not the time to get your caffeine fix. Secondly, you're a computer simulation. Stop carrying around annoying things that mean I can't just 'Take All'.

Anyway. Just did the whole Rex WW thing. Also found another one, none too exciting,

just a cave filled with oversized rodents.
That's what they were actually called too.

Finally, I feel like a hell of a noob for even asking this, but where are the stat increases bought from? It wasn't really obvious right away for me, and I haven't been looking because there's so much else to do, but I could really do with some more strength, and I don't want to have to waste a perk.

Of course they're carrying mugs. They're all big Bill Lumbergh fans, so they stroll around with their mugs and go "M'yeah hi, I'm gonna need you to go ahead to eat a face full of lead, that'd be greeat."

Can anyone recommend some good mods for New Vegas? Particularly increasing starting traits or adding new perks. I am thinking of a second playthrough, but want to make it a bit different than the first(other than being evil this time).

Hey, Everyone - A Tip

If you plan on doing the Three-Card Bounty quest, the one given to you by the NCR to hunt and kill three different named Fiends.... and you want the full reward.

Leave Boone at home. Take someone else. Cass, for example. Maybe Lily. Hell, go get Raul and use him. Boone has an awesome tendency to go for headshots. Except that by going for headshots, you ruin the heads you need for the full bounty. So yeah, for a full bounty, fricken Veronica is a better choice than Boone.

...

Goddamn I love Boone. He and I are gonna go to Nelson later and hunt shitheads.

I actually managed to kill all three of those fiends without damaging their heads with Boone. Although I did have to reload a couple times when I got a crit with a plasma rifle and turned them to goo. Then I switched to my rifle. Although it doesn't surprise me that Boone has a tendency to destroy their heads.

Use stealthboys to loot the Silver Rush, then exchange that gear for what the Gun Runners have if you prefer conventional weapons to energy weapons. (And despite the slow fire rate, the Anti Materiel Rifle was too pretty to pass up. Ammo gets hella heavy on hardcore mode, though.)

SexyTalon wrote:I mean, I'm assuming it either broke (but doesn't that leave an unusable weapon with 0 condition?]
Boone dropped Oh Baby! when it broke (non-hardcore mode), so perhaps that's what they always do? With something like that, which seems like a bug even if it's intentionally designed that way, I never feel particularly bothered using the console to give myself back the vanished item (I also had a set of Brotherhood power armor apparently disappear entirely when I tried giving it to Boone, who can't use it).

pseudoidiot wrote:So has anyone had any other Wild Wasteland encounters?
They seemed pretty sparse for most of the game, but the Alien Blaster in the northwest made it all worth it. (Especially fun to use when you've also got the perk that makes opponents explode in a burst of radiation when you kill them with energy weapons.)

SexyTalon wrote:Goddamn I love Boone. He and I are gonna go to Nelson later and hunt shitheads.
Yeah, he's pretty great. First playthrough, he was the only companion I ever used, though I had Veronica for a bit to do her quest line (and even then only knew about hers from the wikia).

Second time playing through, I went one-by-one through all the companions because I wanted to see their epilogues at the end. Shame that the Raul quest doesn't seem to work right, though.

So, I'm level 12 and I still haven't gotten to New Vegas.

I'm quite enjoying doing all the quests around. And discovering new places. I've gone through a number of places which I think are quest areas and just killed everything for the hell of it. They might not be areas for a quest, but they look like it (the floating platform in the lake behind hoover dam, for example).

Still having fun. Loving this game (though it's gotten a little unstable, and my play sessions often end in crashes).

He may have just dropped it, so it was probably on the ground. I'm not saying he didn't decide to eat it, just that's what the NPCs tend to do with faction armors.

Cass has power armor training, for the record. Maybe all NPCs do. Point being that I was given a suit of Power Armor, didn't want to use it and goddamn is it heavy, so I handed it to Cass.. who put it on. So I've got an armored cowgirl riding with me. Caravan of two indeed.

Yeah, companions may all have the power armor perk, but I kept the only nice non-Brotherhood armor I found (after killing about 20 deathclaws) for myself, since I didn't want the BoS stuff that got me shot at by NCR troops.

Boone is actually wearing my Power armour at the moment, while I use Combat Armour mark 2 with the Gobi Sniper Rifle.

I think you should be able to get Rex Power Armour, that would look pretty bad ass.

Rex is largely metallic anyway, so I'm not sure what power armor would even amount to. And Boone can wear power armor, I'm sure, he just doesn't seem willing to wear Brotherhood faction armor. But the T-45 stuff you get from the BoS initially, unfactioned T-51 armor you get after killing deathclaws on the other side of the Colorado, and Remnant armor all seem to be fine on followers. (And Veronica at least must be able to use the BoS stuff, though I never put it on her because after getting that I decided to leave her and go pick up a new companion.)

Also, I just took the platinum chip to house, and started his quest chain for his ending, but because I'd already dealt with the boomers and the omerta's, we just sat around and chatted for a bit while my experience skyrocketed. The downside of this is I failed the "don't tread on the bear" quest, where the NCR get pissy with you for helping other folks out. I went to speak to the ambassador to clear up a few things but as soon as I entered the embassy a military police guy came up to me and said "well well well, fancy meeting you off the strip" and went aggro. O'course Rex and Boone were not impressed and duly tore him to shreds. This then set the whole place aggro and I had to kill off a ton of NCR. An interesting little bug, to be sure, but one that was mighty annoying as my last save was way back.

Huh, apparently finishing Wild Card: Side Bets (or having Wild Card: Finishing Touches) and doing the NCR path to the end of the game will glitch the last quests. I had to use console commands to finish the game.

Don't Tread on the Bear should only stop NCR liking you when you continue the Side Bets quest line (or helping the Legion, obviously). Helping out minor factions shouldn't have any effect on it.

Also, I likewise had the attacking MP glitch, which was fixed by reloading from the point when I walked into the building. I was still idolized by the NCR, even if they wouldn't give me any more quests, so I suspected it wasn't supposed to happen that some random trooper decided to start beating me with his cattle prod or whatever it is they carry on the Strip.

I'm pretty sure Don't Tread on The Bear is only supposed to stop you from doing the NCR end-of-game quests, and you can continue to do NCR sidequests. But I'm not sure about that one.

I've had the MP glitch not advancing the main questline- so I don't think it's related to that.

Yeah, it might just be the main quest line. I did all the side quests I came across before siding with Independent Vegas, anyway.

Don't Tread on the Bear doesn't actually fail when you turn in Wild Card: Side Bets, which I imagine is the problem.

Don't Tread on the Bear came up as failed when I stopped talking to Mr. House after already (as in, previous to the conversation) having sorted out the boomers and the omerta's. Once I left the convo, it just said 'The NCR will not allow you to assist them further if you continue to work with Mr. House' or words to that effect. Then, a second later it came up as failed. True fact.

Does simply handing the platinum chip to Mr. House prevent me from working with the NCR? So far, I haven't had any problems, but I'm pretty early on in the NCR chain. I was just told to see some colonel at Hoover Dam.

Despite doing a fair amount of work for Mr. House, I never actually handed the chip over to him. Now, I suppose eventually late in the chain you hand it to him, but by that point the NCR wouldn't like you for working with him that much.

So.. I don't believe so, no.

Hmm, I must have done something in the wrong order then.

Spoiler:
After confronting Benny, he ran off to The Fort. So I took Boone to the Fort, we murdered everybody inside including Caesar (who had the chip), went back to Mr. House and gave him the chip. House said he had other things for me to do, I told him I wasn't interested. Since then, I've been helping out the NCR when possible. Just got the quest to head out to Red Rock Canyon and eliminate the Great Khans.

Perhaps I should have talked to House first, before charging off after Benny.

There's a lot of ways for things to play out right after you get to veges and confront Benny.
Spoiler:
I killed benny immediately in the Tops, and his bodyguards and all the security. Then I met house for the first time and handed him over the chip. He said I was a "very dedicated courier". He upgraded all his robots then he asked me to do more stuff, I think I refused but he already gave me the chip back for some reason. Then I went to work for Caesar and his first mission was "blow up the stuff in the bunker" which I did. Then his second quest was kill Mr House, which I did.

I beat his robots to death with spiked knuckles. With my endurance 8 and toughnessx2 and some buffout they couldn't hurt me. So I was trying to play a second time with the intent of going for the legion ending. Despite trying to be evil throughout I still seem to have VERY GOOD in my karma (despite butchering Goodsprings and most of Novac).

I did hit one hitch with my legion plan though:
Spoiler:
So I went energy weapons/melee this time and figured I should probably keep the Silver Rush around since its the premier energy weapons dealer. So I did all their quests and bam ambush the legion, kill them all and end up hated by them. The NRC also hates me (having sent some rangers to kill me) so I guess I might be going for the Yes Man/Independent ending this time. Also not sure if this is a bug or intentional but after the Silver Rush incident, three Legion Assassins came to kill me when I was at the 188 Trading post. Instead of attacking me though they butchered everyone on top (not the Gun Runner guys on the bottom) and THEN agroed to me. Is this some sort of reprisal attack or some bugged agro thing?

On another note, melee weapons seem very strong. They seem to have very high DAM which makes them very good at taking out armored targets. Overall energy weapons seem pretty weak, though I did find a mod that adds armor penetration to overcharged and max charged cells which seems to balance them out a bit (though I suppose it might be overpowered for things like Pew-Pew or Gauss/Tesla cannons)

Oh yes.

I ended up using the vats oh baby special and knocking them over. And hurrying the fuck up while they were down.

Legendary deathclaw? Told companions to wait, grabbed teh hammer, stealthboy, buffed up as much as I could, and ninja sneak attack. Boom mofo, boom!
Deathclaws were suddenly a lot less terrible when I bought the Anti Materiel rifle. They don't like .50 rounds all that much, it turns out.

I found the regular Sniper rifle with its faster firing rate was better for Deathclaws. Both the regular sniper rifle and the AM rifle could sometimes one shot them but it wouldn't always happen. As such I couldn't consistently rely on one shotting them so hitting them more than once seemed like the better option. Also missing an AM rifle shot when a deathclaw is almost at you is a real problem due to the long shot delay. You can't do the "backpeddle, spray whatever rounds you have left in your clip and hope it dies" with the AM rifle but you can with the sniper one (especially if you get the unique sniper rifle).

I got tired of changing it.

Anyway. Re: Alpha Deathclaw.

Me and my sneaky-sneak self sneaky-snuck to the top of the elevator. I sneaky-sneaked a peek through my Laser Rifle Scope and sneaky-spotted the Alpha Deathclaw.

"Holy Shit" I thought, but.. hey, I'd zapped a Deathclaw with a couple of headshots before I came in, so how fricken hard will this be? I've got 80 Microfusion cells. I've got this."

... About 20 shots in with my Magnum because my Laser Rifle had run out, despite 1 shot in 3 being critical hits to the cranium, I realize the Alpha still had about 75% of it's health. I didn't have it.

Glad I saved right before I tried sneaking in!
