No, not a bad Proclaimers cover. Following the success of the 10,000 pushups thread we thought you all might be interested in breaking down a few more forumite stereotypes by contributing to a cumulative 10,000-mile run. (apologies for those of you who work in new money - can you convert?).

So, the rules are simple. Add the distance you've run to the current total. I'll start with today's outing:

0 + 6 miles = 6 miles

Forgot that it is Monday, not Tuesday. So I ran 6 Miles (there and back) to stand in front of a locked door.

20.5 + 6 = 26.5

Wow 8 miles is great! Wish I had enough stamina. Treadmill at 9.5mph and 4 incline for 30 minutes is the best I can do.

34.5 + 4 = 38.5

Edit: Arabascan.... how do you run 6 miles if the distance between your house and school is 2 miles? Shouldn't it be 4 miles total?

I'll tack on two more miles from this afternoon.

38.5 + 2 = 40.5

I use metric though 'cause I'm from Canuckistan, but I'll round to the nearest tenth of a mile.

I don't have vibrams yet, but I had that problem when I first switched to forefoot running. It will pass. Hopefully you don't get weird shinsplints like I did, though.

Actually I think they, along with new running shoes that are more right for my feet, actually helped me to recover from the shin splints; they're bothering me a lot less than they were in the summer.

It is a way different feel running forefoot though.

Yeah, I can't remember the last time I got them, certainly not since I switched to shoes that weren't made out of fiberglass (I'm using Nike Frees)

I feel guilty for saying this but you're never going to make it...

It takes me a whole three weeks to cycle just 1500 miles, dawn till dusk, every day.
At your current rate it will take you well over a year to complete.

My advice is either settle down for a long hard slog or change the unrealistic target.

Agree grade & comment. So, we'll take a year. If, during that year we all take one or two extra runs per week, just so we can post it here then it'll be worth it. Hey look, it's the Internet having a positive impact on health & fitness! Yay us!

Ps writing on a train, in my running gear, half way through running to work. All because I wanted to post a few more miles here.

A few different ways. You might have a pedometer, or if you have an iPhone/iTouch, you can use the Nike+ GPS app like I do to track your runs, or the iMapMyRun app works just as well too. Or if you don't have those, you can also use the website MapMyRun to track your runs, which I found were usually accurate to within about 0.05 mi if you use the 'follow roads' function on the tracker. Maybe less so if you don't, but it gets you in the neighbourhood.

I wear a garmin running watch when I remember the damn thing (& can be bothered to stand around in the cold waiting for it to log onto the satellites). Thanks to this I now know the distance of most of my regular runs. I've also tried using mapmyrun and I have to say it's impressively accurate. Given that a gps is only accurate to around 15-20 meters i assume if you rung a lot of tight corners the accuracy won't be much worse on mapmyrun. It's certainly accurate enough for these purposes!

Ugh, tried running this morning, but after the drinking last night, it did not go well, even though it's warm and sunny here in LA
