Count to a Million in Roman Numerals

Postby Mazuku » Sun Jan 23, 2011 5:53 am UTC

It's like the other counting threads except its counting up in Roman numerals.

Roman Numeral Chart
(for those people who don't know)
I = 1
V = 5
X = 10
L = 50
C = 100
D = 500
M = 1000

I will start at one as the Romans haven't got a zero IIRC:

How will this work for numbers over 3999?

Is there a special character for 1 million, or is the final post going to have to contain exactly 1000 M's?

I believe that would be an M with a line over it.

You mean M = 1,000 & M with a line over it - 1,000,000 by any chance? Unless you know to add the line above the letter, we might have to stop at 4,000.

Reading that wiki page, it seems like an overline multiplies that roman digit by 1000. So V with an overline would be 5000.

So how do we put overlines on text in this forum?

I've heard that a line underneath supposedly works just as well as above.
Basically, if anyone's not understanding, the line multiplies the thing under/above it by 1000.
