Hmm, maybe my calculation was wrong. I'm not positive how pixels in LCD displays work. I was thinking: 1920x1080 pixels in the display, multiply that by possible colors (256x256x256). but if every pixel is specifically R, G or B, then it should only be 1920x1080x256.

Each pixel is made up of three subpixels, which are either red green or blue. So it is Height * Width * 2^(color depth), or in this case 1920 * 1080 * 2^24

However, my desktop is 2560x1024 (2 monitors @1280x1024). You have to take into account multiple dekstop resolutions

Well that's why I said assuming the same resolution. And anyway it's completely rubbish because we're counting images which are completely black except for one pixel which is dark-gray, and images which are just noise etc.

To expand on that, there isn't an even distribution of desktop backgrounds. For solid color backgrounds, there is a mere 2^24 assuming there isn't some rare case with a guy having a 48 bit background.

I hate desktop icons.
I love the Adobe CS4-style icons in my taskbar.
I don't remember where I got this image from, but the stars look fake. I'll have to Photoshop that eventually.

Just reinstalled Ubuntu on my laptop (well, technically I also swapped drives, so I new-installed). Clean, nothing fancy, just the way I like it.

Need to do a little more antialiasing on this one, as it was an upscale to its current size, but for now, I'm happy with it.

It's hard to do barely readable on a background like that. It's like you can see that there's text and you need to read it, but someone attacks your eyes with a cheese grater when you try to make it out.

I usually circulate between these three (links because they're on the largish side):

trololo, which one of these is not like the others
Many were increasingly of the opinion that they'd all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place. And some said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no one should ever have left the oceans.

And this also made by me on photoshop, it's doctor who related and I think it's gorgeous.. (it was originally for tumblr and I never tweaked it to make it a proper desktop because I like it the way it is :P)
