This seems to be the fastest way to bring them down. grenades work I guess, but only the frag ones because they're easier to get down at their feet. the sticky grenades don't work very well because nine times out of ten I stick them to the wrong body parts and they end up exploding harmlessly off their shield or armor.

as they insta kill hit at you when you are close, but are slow enough that you can dodge.

Are there more ways of dying without warning in this game compared to previous in the series, or is it just me? Just off the top of my head I can think of Hunters, Wraiths, Hammer-Brutes, Grunts running with stickies, Grunts carrying plasma rockets, Elites with swords, and the various enemies that throw sticky grenades when you step behind cover. Those were all in Halo 3 too I guess, but I don't remember them being as frequent.
Edit: and turrets. those kill almost instantly too.

(i'm thinking of the hornet mission in the nightclub)

haha, I didn't kill a single Hunter there. I just dodged past them and hit whatever switch I was supposed to before running out.

OH MY GOD I AM NOT ALONE. I keep walking around corners into situations where I just simply expire. The whole grunts with plasma rockets thing is ridiculously gratuitous, They kill in one on heroic or harder and they sneak so well. I find that one of the best things about this game is that elites can be a real challenge, in a one on one firefight it isn't inconceivable that you will come out worse off. The problem comes when the designers apparently forgot that and went crazy with the number of the bastards spawned in one place.

That being said I do actually quite like the difficulty on this game. It's hard, but never really impossible.

I've got to say I'm very surprised at everyone complaining about the weak story..
I thought the plot, and if not the plot, then certainly the characters, where much more interesting than in Halo 3. I actually cared about what was going on and felt some connection to the characters.
Almost everything about this game was a step up from 3. The graphics were better, the armor customization was more complex, Forge mode is 100x more well done, the music was incredible, etc. I remember hearing in one of the viddocs prior to the release that this was supposed to be "Halo's swan song", and I certainly felt it was.

I never read any of the halo books or watched any of the anime, while one of my friends has done these things. To him the characters have depth and stories; he knows all about stuff not in the game but that ties in with the game. Now as someone that doesn't know about anything but the games these characters mean nothing to me. It's just a team of spartans that die off one by one while trying to save Reach.

I didn't care about masterchief in halo 3 either, and while I liked how odst's missions were done, I didn't find myself attached to them either. I felt like their characters were more real though, whereas the noble team was just a bunch of spartans that join up and die when they're supposed to.

Can anyone find a video of a Bungie staff member saying that Reach would be the last in the halo series? I came across this video and now I'm confused.

Bungie won't be making any more Halo games, but they also don't own the license. I doubt Microsoft, who actually does own the license, will let such a profitable franchise go dormant for long.

I keep hearing that stated as fact though. where's the source that says that Bungie isn't making halo games? I can't find any audio of anyone actually saying it.

Why are you so focused on Audio? I mean, I'm sure people have stated it (probably look for interviews around the release of Halo 3, that's when the split actually happened). But all of the relevant facts are much more easily found in text, such as the actual legal filings and press releases surrounding Bungie splitting off from Microsoft and the formation of 343 Industries as an internal division of Microsoft specifically to manage and develop the Halo franchise.

When Microsoft purchased Bungie back in 2000, any IP Bungie was working on became Microsoft property (basically, the then in-developement Halo: Combat Evolved title). And when Bungie split off as an independent developer in 07/08, they only got whatever IP had been developed without Microsoft, or which Microsoft was willing to part with for a reasonable price. I can guarantee that if Bungie even bothered to ask for the Halo rights, the price of what was then the best selling video game franchise in existence (and easily among the top selling media franchises in history) was out of range of most industrialized nations.

A book about forerunners was just released a couple weeks ago.

Re Bungie: Reach was certainly their last game. Here's an interview with one of the Microsoft Halo people about the future of Halo.

The book is great. Not only is it very good hard sci-fi, it still gives that "Halo" feeling, despite taking place before the rings were fired. And you won't expect a lot of the history of the Halo universe that is revealed.

I wouldn't mind reading some spoilers about the book, if you're up to the task :)

I have some studying for my physics midterm now, so I'll just give you this.
Spoiler:
Halo: Cryptum

Later I may type up what you learn about the origins of the flood.

EDIT: It seems that the Halo: Legends details about the Forerunner-Flood war conflicts with Cryptum. Just another reason for me to view is as non-canon.

Personally, I thought the story in the Reach campaign was better than any of the other games individually, or at least I got a lot more invested in it. Having read Fall of Reach, one of Eric Nylund's novels, I think Bungie completely nailed the tone of the story, just watching things get worse and worse and worse, and whatever small victory the Spartans scrape out has an Oh Crap moment a hundred times bigger.

And the hunters got SUPER beefed up in this game compared to previous ones, but I found if you get them looking the opposite way long enough and you have a needle rifle, you can pop three needles into their back for the explosion and do some damage that way too. On legendary though, I just killed one of the four in the nightclub, hit the jammer, and got the hell out of dodge. I think that's how you're meant to do it.

Really? Everytime I play it I try to save the marines down below. I start with sniping the Hunters in their weak spots with whatever ranged guns I have with me. Then grenades and needles for the others. Oh and there's a rocket launcher in the middle of the dance floor on the bottom level. Couple of those will put down a Hunter in any of the Halo games.
Not all who wander ar...blah blah blah, basically I want to be cool like Aragorn.
