This is simplistically wonderful if you ask me, and very true. I think it would have been cool, though also probably would have got a lot of people upset not feeling like XKCD to them, if he had released this on Monday, and then did 4 more Tuesday-Friday where it's the same comic, but a different animal each time.

And I don't know if this is related to why he chose this comic, but tomorrow is Earth Day.

Turtles do have it all figured out. When they bask in the sun, my turtles just stretch out their limbs and hang out. I have one who likes to "explore" my apartment, and when she encounters a human or cat, she pauses, extends her neck and raises her head, as to say "I am a turtle." YES, YES YOU ARE.

I'm probably reading too much into this one, but it makes me a little sad. I could easily see this comic as something that was inspired by those recent family events that Randall went through. A loved one and I had a similar discussion about dogs and how awesome it might be to not be self-aware (especially when you have an 'expiration date' looming over your head.) Ultimately we came to the conclusion that the ability to enjoy sex more than makes up for it.

But yeah the conversation kinda started the same way... "Dogs are lucky. They don't give a shit about cancer. They're just like 'Hey! What's this lumpy thing on me?' and then someone usually puts them down before they experience too much pain. All they know is that they're a dog and that's alright."

This post was a bit depressing... You should probably do an image search on pandas or something... Just in case.

i think he just wanted to see if he could draw anything and have people analyse it in depth even though it HAS no depth.

I dunno turtles have it pretty rough. You have to live in a sewer. There are all these guys in purple pajamas try to kill you led by a crazy man covered in blades. The only thing you can ever eat is pizza delivery due to living in said sewer. I think being a turtle is probably tougher than it sounds, it sounded like a good idea when I was younger but now I'm not so sure. I guess the TV, movie and toy royalties would be nice, but I think turtles got screwed on the contract or something you'd think they could probably rent an apartment or something. It ain't easy being green.

For what it's worth, my father was a Turtle. And yes, he was a pilot in WWII, and yes, I'm probably older than you. He had an ID card and everything.
