I love how they're doing it, actually. It's quite in-character for both of them to avoid the relationship that really could be something for fear that something will go wrong. I love that they're starting to expand their friendship before turning it into sex. I feel like in the past their relationship has always been a bit strained and avoidant, and now they're growing to really know each other. For Castle, that's strange and scary because most of his relationships begin as sex, and for Beckett it's strange and scary because she never lets anyone get to know her this well. So yeah, even though the relationship dangling can be frustrating, the reason for it actually seems like more than just "because otherwise the show might get less good".

Can you tell I'm really enjoying the character development that they've ramped up lately?

I will quietly admit that I happen to as well. I guess I see your point about the way they're doing it - at this rate it'll be pretty satisfying when it happens.

The fact that somebody comes in from the fbi or dhs or whatever and takes over whenever something big is going on is kind of annoying. It may be realistic... But I would really like to see the chief have to be mean to Beckett than some easy-to-hate DHS spook. It would add a little tension/gravity to the whole kicked off the case thing. (Speaking of which, the "you're off the case" thing is also getting a little old. It feels like it happens every other episode.)

What I liked was that this time, there wasn't even a moment of "Dang, we got kicked off the case. Maybe we should go home." They just made a tacit "screw the man, we're solving this bitch" agreement without even pausing to discuss it. That was cool.

Not quite. Some of the sad-looking faces have a lot of out arrows but no in arrows. And smug ones have a lot of in arrows.

Jumped in mid-thread without reading the last page or so because I haven't watched all the episodes yet, so forgive me if this post is out of place or a repition, but I couldn't contain my disgust for that supposed South African accent (s02ep14, "The Third Man"). It was like someone once heard a bad parody of someone trying to do a bad South African accent and then tried to emulate that but not very hard.

It broke my brain and my ears and very nearly my will to live.

Shudder.

There are a few series I've noticed in the last couple of years, which seem almost to have more breaks than episodes. And God help you if the series happens to run over a holiday like Easter or Thanksgiving, then it'll be months between episodes.

That's because the episodes on Hulu go up way later, are lower resolution and generally not worth watching with all the ads.

IMDb is pretty reliable with listing the next new episode's air date. The next new Castle is this coming Monday, May 2nd. There are only three more episodes (including that one) left in the season, so no more breaks.

I sat down to watch it after watching the Chuck finale, thinking, "Oh, Castle will calm me down after Chuck". Boy, was I wrong about *that*.

I cannot put into words how much I enjoyed the sequence with Ryan and Espisito finding out that Montgomery was the third man.

Spoiler:
The type of vest she would be wearing is slightly more effective than a shirt at stopping rifle bullets. Although, on rewatching the scene, I noticed a couple things:
-The sound used for the rifle isn't the normal high powered rifle crack sound.
-There is a significant delay between the gun firing and it hitting Beckett.
Both seem to suggest the shooter having some sort of setup with a suppressor and maybe subsonic bullets, which could be slowed down enough by a vest to not liquify her internal organs.
Of course, both of these could be the result of the sound designer/producer/whoever not understanding how guns work. Or me wanting Beckett to not be dead.

I didn't see *much* blood though, and she retained consciousness for a while, likely fainting out of shock. Maybe it shot just past her heart? I'm thinking anything but her heart gives her a chance, but the bullet hole was very deliberately close to there.
