Back to the actual subject at hand, though...I think now that D1's properly started (scumdrum
), it'd be a good time for some rolespec. Accurately predicting what powers town would have isn't likely to be possible here, with what little flavor we've got to go on - I've still got a couple ideas, but they'll make a bit more sense once I outline my scumspec.
I make out three main possibilities for the scum team:
An Aperture Science observational team, seeded amongst the test subjects to ensure all proper test protocols are being followed. Not very likely - in part because that's what GLaDOS is here to do in the first place, in part because I doubt the scientists would want to get incinerated (though perhaps employee testing is still mandatory?), and in part because it doesn't have a clear mechanism for the nightkill.
GLaDOS's cores. Somewhat likely in that they'd fit the theme of "fighting against GLaDOS", but I wouldn't expect to see them in the test chambers, and they didn't really seem to have a lot of ability to act on their own in the game. Would be consistent with neurotoxin delivery as the nightkill mechanism - they'd be immune, after all, and it'd be something they trigger in GLaDOS. If it is this set, would be the Curiosity Sphere (rolecop maybe?), Cake Sphere (dispenses "presents"?), and Anger Sphere (maybe a roleblocker by screaming at them so much they can't think?). If this is the case, there's a good chance the Morality Sphere would be in the game, probably as a townie role (inhibiting GLaDOS or the other cores in some way - town roleblocker? Maybe a doctor, stopping neurotoxin delivery, but I'd expect that to be on whoever was delivering the neurotoxin rather than receiving.)
Turrets! This is what I consider most likely - they're independent actors but still under GLaDOS's control, they're seen throughout the facility, they'd be immune to neurotoxin, and they have an obvious nightkill mechanism. (Plus, they're fun to incinerate and you can pull tricks on them with the portal gun!) I'd expect the standard Turrets (prob. basic mafia goons) and rocket Turret (maybe submitting a delayed-action daykill, i.e. if they post within the next 24 hours they 'dodge' or something like that? Redirectable with portal gun?). If it goes further into "mechanical elements", there's the possibility of GLaDOS's cameras (Watchers/Trackers, maybe?), or something like the high-energy disco ball. This scumteam could work with neurotoxin, but if nightkill flavor involves someone riddled with bullets or blown apart I'm betting on this one.
As far as town, my basic ideas revolve around it being one of the latter two teams, with a 'tech' flair to most of the roles - that doesn't tell us a lot about what roles we'd actually *have*, though. So, we could have something like a 'Tech Specialist' as cop, who could identify a target as machine or human (not something that should take a lot of work to be able to figure out, but still) - if so, the Morality Core might show up as a miller in the Cores scumteam, there probably wouldn't be any in a Turret scumteam. Except...
COMPANION CUBE! <3 <3 <3 <3 Willing to bet the Cube is a doctor - it blocks projectiles and turrets, it keeps you safe, it's wonderful...and a possible jesterbomb minus the jester part (lynching the Cube may have consequences). I know I would be stricken by remorse if I incinerated the faithful Cube
Or, cop/watcher/tracker could work by hacking into GLaDOS's databanks or something - I can definitely see cop/doc easily, but while there might be some weird roles on the side, I'm not expecting too much in the way of high-power town.
Thinking three scum, possibly four if we do have superpowered roles; pretty certain two would be too few here, unless the scum can get control of the portal gun and dodge lynches with that or something.
Speaking of which...that's one of the things bothering me about my rolespec. The only real reason I have for the 'scientists' scumspec is that opening flavor says 'we were brought here to test...' which would seem to imply "all players are testing", hence the possibility of testers working with GLaDOS/coerced by GLaDOS. Cores/turrets, though...I can't see those being testers. Yet the Enrichment Centre Code of Conduct just says that 'a player randomly' will be given the portal gun - if it's just random among town that could give interesting ways to confirm someone (and resulting wine from being unsure about the mechanic/possible falseclaims), but if it's random among everyone that gives the possibility of a couple bad rolls completely overpowering scum. (Unless it's a pseudo-RNG, of course...)
tl;dr I don't think self-voting is useful, I don't think listening to GLaDOS in general is useful (besides adhering to the Enrichment Centre Code of Conduct ofc), I think it likely is a *relatively* vanilla-ish game minus the portal gun mechanic, and I think this wall of text has gone on long enough.
