At least you tried it which is more than what I can say a lot of people would do.

Many would agree that the pilot was one of the weaker episodes. Before you completely dismiss may I suggest watching one more episode: Winter Wrap Up, it's kind of my personal favorite and a favorite of many in the pony community.

I would say you gave it a fair chance. Maybe watch something like Green Isn't Your Colour when you have time or in six months or something. The rest of the show is more like Applebuck than the pilot, and the appeal is just based on what makes any show good: strong characters, good writing, quality animation.

Did I mention I still have a pretty good recall of the original My Little Pony and Friends from twenty years ago? (Yikes, that was over twenty years ago!)

I thought I read somewhere that J. Michael Straczynski or someone else who went on to Bigger Things did the writing for that one, but I can find no reference to such a thing.

EDIT:

Now that? That was awesome.

By the way, I see many references to this being a "Flash" cartoon. Is everything done in Flash now?

I believe they use Flash 8. A lot more things are animated in Flash now because it's cheaper and easier than hand-drawn or a custom program.

Thanks, I now know which episode to recommend people watch first. Are you likely to watch the rest now?

Today's episode (Party of One) is probably the best so far.

Is there some easy way to tell? They might as well start doing Family Guy and such in Flash.

Probably not all of them, but there are still a few recommendations in this thread I might yet examine.

I'm actually pretty torn between Winter Wrap Up and Art of the Dress. I have an incredible fondness for both.

I listen to Art of the Dress on a daily basis. Winter Wrap Up, much less often.

With me, for some inexplicable reason, it's You Gotta Share.

And So Many Wonders, but that goes without saying since it's Fluttershy's song. ^.^
Stephen Hawking: Great. The entire universe was destroyed.
Fry: Destroyed? Then where are we now?
Al Gore: I don't know. But I can darn well tell you where we're not—the universe!

Perhaps it's because 'you gotta share' unintentionally starts wars and it brings to mind pinkie in a burlesque outfit?

And I may have to agree that Art of the Dress is a better song. Something about the "I'm sewing them together part" just makes it amazing.

Splitting the screen time six ways made it suffer in sublety and surprise factor. It had its moments though. "Run."

No more ponies till ~October :(. The official twitter is hinting at a Season One DVD, which I would import at any cost.

What was everyone's favourite episode? I can't decide between Green Isn't your Colour and Sonic Rainboom.

Favorite episode? Cutie Mark Chronicles, definitely. Fluttershy as a filly, Rarity being dragged through the countryside (A ROCK!? That's my destiny!?), Pinkie Pie on a rock farm (..and that's how Equestria was made!), and the most epic SONIC RAINBOOM!!!

The Instrumental version of the song in final episode is amazing.

(the voice channel was subtracted, so it isn't 100% removal)

At first I didn't like the episode's song, but after listening to this I went back and loved it.

A lot of people are worried that Lauren Faust leaving means the quality of the show would drop considerably. I, on the other hand, am confident that the show will still be amazing. Things like MLP aren't put together by one person and her biggest contribution is already complete. She has shown us that it's possible for these shows, which used to be nothing more than thirty minute commercials for the product they were selling, to have a soul of their own world's apart from the hasbro toys.

A number of people who work on the show (I believe two animators and a director) have posted around the web saying that despite her departure, they think Season 2 will be awesome and that the rest of the team hasn't changed. The fact they care enough to post that should be proof enough that the show's quality will be maintained.

I agree, I think Faust helped shape the show's characters and tone but the actual quality also came from everyone else who worked on the show. The two episodes she had a hand in writing (pilot) were actually quite weak and in an adventure style rather than the sitcom style used for the rest of the series that worked better.

You should fix your table so that pairs with a greater likelihood to be shipped lie on opposite sides of the table.

Official PMV "Equestria Girls" from The Hub. Will be aired on TV soon.

Uses the word "bronies" twice and the name DJ PON-3 is non canon. This is the first time Hasbro/The Hub has recognised "us", because this was made without the help of the actual staff doing the TV show.

I may or may not have spent pretty much all of Saturday Mare-athoning this show with friends. And those friends may or may not have been mostly males in their first year of university. And all but three of these males may or may not have been wearing Rainbow Dash shirts.

IT. WAS. AWESOME. . . . . maybe.

I love this show so much. And we totally decided that Pinkie Pie is an eldritch abomination from the beginning of time who got bored with nothingness and therefore created reality. And she eventually broke. And she's observed patterns for so long that she can predict the future. (This interpretation is very, very, very terrifying, actually.)
I wanted to see the universe, so I stole a Time Lord and ran away. And you were the only one mad enough.

So Pinkie Pie is a self-aware Haruhi?

Also, I found some songs made from sound clips in FiM on the Youtubes.

I like those but they keep using the same four samples in every video. Find some different ones, it's worse than Mario Paint.

(Alright it's not a real song, but it's still the best!)

This show is truly awesome, not just for how well it's drawn but truly for the writing. It's just good old fashioned fun, even the less deep episodes!
