Okay... a lot of people seem to like CAD. I used to read that, and then I found xkcd and Penny Arcade within two days of each other. Come on, people CAD is not funny.

Meh, I still read it. What you find funny is not necessarily what I will find funny. I do not find him consistently funny, but there are enough laughs to make me continue to check it every now and then.

I realise that many people find vgcats to be intensely amusing; I do not. This does not mean I will tell them to stop reading it.

Also, I checked the rules link that William posted. Most of those seem fairly legitimate, the only one I don't agree with is necroposting, because that can be funny, but I can see how it might get necessary. None seem unreasonable.

It's not very well known, but I think that the author has a truly brilliant mind. His strips range from hilarious, to ingenious, to though provoking, to just a little sad. I highly recommend it.

I LOVE webcomics.

Someone already mentioned Order of the Stick (D&D spoofs ftw!), and Misfile (for anyone that loves racing). So I'll just second those. Plus SomethingPositive.

College Roomies from Hell
about college students that get mutated, have to fight the devil, and survive college. the story line is really good. The art really develops to be pretty (check current comics) although it starts off not so great as most long comics have.

El Goonish Shive
Random name for an AWESOME webcomic. Great story. Highschool kids, dealing with Genderswitching Rayguns, Aliens, Supernaturals, Magic, and just being highschool kids.

Flipside
It's about a Nympho-Jester and her lesbian Sword-Dancing lover as they go through a world with magic. Um, and some kid that likes to cheat at cards.

Kevin and Kell
It's about a Rabbit that runs his own Internet Service Provider, and his life being married to a wolf, and their children. It's awesome.

Least I Could Do
Rayne is a guy that likes sex. A lot. And these are his tales. (The art starts off badly but ends up really nice, and the stories are fun and full of sex, but not porny, althuogh some might be NSFW. They aren't Sexy-Loser like.)

There are also some more that I love, plus some that I just think are worth sharing. But I don't want to overwhelm you guys too quickly!

oh and I recommend using http://www.thewebcomiclist.com to keep track of your webcomics if you're like me and have a lot you enjoy reading. It keeps track of them for you and tells you when they're updated so you don't have to try and remember all their complicated schedules. (plus if some comic hasn't updated in months, it will still tell you when it finally updates, so you don't have to worry!).

Blank Label Comics has some definite awesomeness. In particular Sheldon and Starslip Crisis are favorites of mine. I rather like over compensating and company.

For some that aren't humorous unicornjelly is amazing. 9th elsewhere and Mindmistress are good too.

I'm surprised that it hasn't been mentioned yet: Sluggy Freelance.

It's updated daily and usually follows a story arc of some kind, though the author tries to put in a punchline each day. It's also been around for nearly a decade (anniversary is next month), so you have plenty of archives to read through.

Errant Story is also worth a look if you're into fantasy things, but the update schedule and pacing make for a very slowly evolving story.
I do keep an eye out for comics which are about different subjects, so Graff, which is a webcomic about graffiti is pretty neat. To me anyway.
