You can always count on a (modern) computer to have a USB port.

Um, for what? USB drives are better for computer-to-computer transfers, and SD cards are better for devices like cameras.

microsd card + usb microsd adapter.
Code: Select all
#include <stdio.h>

int main()
{
 struct { unsigned a:3, b:3, c:2; } n = {0};
  do do printf("%hhu\n", *&n);
  while(!(n.a-- && !++n.b));
  while(++n.c);
  return 0; }

I think flash drives are better for all your file transfer needs from different computers. :)

SD cards are just good if you always work with your camera and other devices (though now most have USB connections as well).
You cannot expect all computers to have card readers. :)

With a cheap adapter, the distinction between SD card and flash drive are almost nothing. In fact, the microSD in my phone is my flash drive. Granted, it may be fatter than you may want on your keychain but fulfills my own needs. My USB hub reads microSD directly. My camera card and emergency boot drive end up being the same. As a cheapskate, I buy no more devices than I absolutely have to.

As far as I can tell, flash drives are free (I have several and haven't paid for a single one) and SD cards cost money (I have several and have paid for all but one or two), so for just moving stuff around, flash drives win.

Flash Drives are most useful when transferring data from computer to computer, like floppy discs used to do. Sd cards are more useful to store data on portable devices like cameras.
