I do not know where this "Poopenheim" is, nor have I ever heard of it. I was trying to think up a silly Internet name that would follow me around for the rest of my life, so I thought "Hey, why not Poopenheimer? It's got Poop in it, so it must be good!"

True story.

Hey. I'm Suzanne. I'm 19 and I've been a physics nerd since I was a junior in high school, and a math nerd even longer than that. I guess it's because, when other girls were playing with Barbies, I was playing with my magnet set.

I'm going to school for Secondary Math and Physics Education. I had one particularly inspiring teacher and I hope to be just like him. But ultimately I'd love to have a Master's in Physics and be a college professor.

I like reading. Now I'm reading Einstein's Cosmos by Michio Kaku, but that's about to be interrupted by The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Stupid Philosophy class.

Umm... I guess that's about it.

That aside, welcome to the forums. I think you will find it very easy to fit in here. I don't, as I have very unimpressive computer and math knowledge.

I'm still not gonna talk to you.

I'm Kyle. I've read the comics for a long while and browsed the forums for probably about 6 months, but only because the topics and debates were interesting to read; I never really had a reason to register and post.

After a certain point, listening in on conversations without revealing myself got a little creepy, so here I am.

I'm 18 and entering college in a couple of weeks, looking to major in either pure math or astrophysics - maybe a double if I decide to forfeit my soul. Typical XKCD material.

Hi

My name is Hillary, I am 22 years old...just graduated from college this spring with my B.S. in Physics with a focus in Astrophysics. I currently work doing research in Solar Physics, though soon I will be working with some experimental cameras that will hopefully be used in future imaging satellites.

I have been reading XKCD forever, but only just decided to join the forums (since I am very bored at work at the moment!).

Hello guys. Let's be brief. I'm not an English speaker, and I've been trying to find some kind of forum in English I could fit in, so I can practice and learn. I've studied Physics, and I'm gonna start a master degree, then a PhD.

I don't know why, but today I thought: "These nerd comics I read must have their own forums. That could be nice". And here I am. I'm gonna try not to worry too much about my language, as you can see by my username. Just hope to have fun. See you!

So long as you try... (and don't argue too much with the native speakers on the meaning of a word, particularly when the Brits, Aussies, Canadians and Americans start going at each other) then you'll have no problems at all. And whatever language is your native one - check the Linguistics forum. There may be a practice thread for it, and practice threads can always use more native speakers.

I love when words conjure up great visual images. Thanks for that Fighting Lettuce.

I'm Adam Levin. I'm a full-time tutor and a new business owner (Tutor Delphia which serves Philadelphia, PA, USA). I mainly tutor math but I don't have a math degree so I'm not on the same level as other people here, but I feel that I'm really good at explaining the math I know to others.

I'm also working on creating a directory of comics related to math as well as my own math related comic Zara vs the Scary Alien Teacher (Zara vs the SAT hasn't started yet, but I have some stuff about it in the production blog).

I am also an overweight avid cyclist. I'm going to try to do my second century ride at Livestrong Philly, but I'm not in the greatest shape for it. I ride with Team Fatty of course.

My favorite comic is #730.

Hi!

I've lurked here for a long, long time and decided to sign up so I can make the occasional post. But I'll most likely lurk the vast majority of the time. Although I find xkcd (the comic) interesting, my affection for it has almost no impact on my decision o be here, asides from leading me here. The fora jus stand on their own merits (and faults) in my head.

Been reading the comics for years and have a copy of the book which serves as a good indicator of coolness among people who recognise it in my flat. Interested in games, SF, futurism, plus I run a games company called Six to Start and do various online things.

Why hellloooo, xkcd forums. I've read the comic for a long time, and passed by here a couple times in very subtle lurking fashion. Seems an incredibly detailed, intelligent, and interesting place. I figured I'd get around to making an account. Soooo I did.

Also, I must apologize, while I have now written more than five posts, one of them did have a link in it, only realizes just afterwards it was against the rules to link in your first five posts. I hope this doesn't cause me significant troubles? I quite like the degree of scientific knowledge and logical thinking being thrown around on here and I think I can learn a lot.

I find it really funny that binary is being used to verify humanity. If a computer every gain sentience this could be how they first learn to communicate. And to answer your binary question, yes, oh could you not. And no stealing my answer dancing fox:)

Hello, I'm Chris. I'm 15, and hate most people my age with a passion (As we all should at that age) I tend to spend a lot of my time on the interwebs listening to ranters (Lev Yilmaz,T.J./TheAmazingAtheist, Howard Bloom) .... As you may have noticed, I tend to be a pseudo-intellectual pretentious prat at times, I'll try to keep it at a minimum. I'm sorry in advance if I'm too serious, it's because being a constant forum-contributor seems kind of pointless if the only payoff is the creation of memetic mutations. P.S. Sorry for wasting the mods time by trying to create my own intro-thread.

I did a quick sample of 100 active users on the forum, and broke down their last 500 posts by filtering out any reference to mimesis. It turns out that, of 500,000 posts, only 1.7% actually contain mimetic qualities. So you're in good hands.

Hello XKCD people,

I'm Miltefar, a 19 years old young man. After surfing around the place, I finally decided to join this forums, because I felt that the community here was quite mature and smart. Maybe my opinion will change.

I am not a native English speaker or writer, however living in Canada, I am facing almost everyday the English language. I would say that I am 90% fluent, if you don't consider scientific or very specialized vocabulary. Maybe it is the occasion to learn more here! I am a native French speaker, with basic notions of Swedish (I am Swedish, in fact, but I don't speak the language yet.) and German.

I am studying Communication - Marketing (if you thought about studying in this area, please don't: it's not challenging and rarely interesting, but it gives you quite a lot of career opportunities), and am interested in literature, philosophy, linguistic (and languages on a more general scale) and computer science, even if I don't have a lot of knowledge on the last matter. But I started to learn coding in C: that's a start.

Anyway, I hope I will fit in this forums. :)

Also, I like bacon, and hate the Spanish language.
That's pretty much it.

Hello XKCDers!

I've been a long time lurker and it's been hard to resist signing up (I always get too involved), today I finally cracked.
As for introductions, I'm from holland and currently I'm studying computer science (one of the many here I suppose), planning on doing a Cognitive Psychology Master after I finish. I have great interest in the inner workings of the brain and all things related to AI (it's why I'm making the 'career' switch), also I love playing guitar!

Cheers for reading this,
I hope I don't get any harassment suits during my stay here, as my name tends to antagonize people ;p I promise I won't grab you.
