What about those of us who actually use the spam links to get our daily dose of pornography?! Huh! Where else will I find such high quality celebrity porn intertwined amidst an intelligent conversation about scientific ongoings?!

There's only one website i know which does this, please dont consider it spam (sheesh I'm not affiliated) but aarondunlap.com he has a neat extra system. Even if you're a password account you have to identify a color [only once a sitting]. It might only work since it's not very popular.

Ah man, i just went on a 24-spam-bot-post-deleting-bender. That was a hell of a rush!

This particular bot-d00d really pissed me off. Not only did he not have the common decency to post actual porn (just your typical spyware sites, oh you can't see the movie? here download this movie-codecs-virus.exe file!), the bastard was actually inconsiderate enough to double post in one thread!

EDIT:He posted another 19.

So otherwise, you clicked on the link and got disappointed? (Don't take this the wrong way, it's just a joke)

Oh, no, I ran the exe the spam bots linked to by accident!
But not really. Can't we do something like add in a different form for registration? There are already a ton of pre-approved spam-bot filters at phpBB's website, too, that could easily be added.

I truly think it would increase the health of the forum.

Hey, uh, maybe don't go to those links at all under any circumstances. I know a lot of those kinds of schemes use unique addresses to determine if they're being seen. If the page gets accessed at all, they know it was from this board and to throw more bots at us.

I did go to the link, but I copy-pasted it into a new URL bar (habit from misleading link names http://yahoo.com) and thus started a completely new session. I am sure this forum wasn't marked as a referer in the HTTP header.

I didn't think about what you said however, and it is by chance I am hypervigilant. Good advice for everyone else.

Edit: Don't I feel like a fool? The /24658 could most definetely be tracked if it unique to this forum. God damn you "Jilli Senders".

24 posts, or 24 bots?

24 posts is nothing.

Tell you what: to increase your bot-killing score, I'm going to let you delete the two (or more) who are currently posting in "individual comic threads".

My internet is still down at home, and hermaj is away until Jan 23. I haven't eaten yet tonight. You train now.

I think a consensus was already reached that Administrator activation for registration would be the best, simpliest, course of action. Though, I would suspect a few more administrators would be needed to keep things moving along...

So viagra makes for heavy sperm? I am fairly ignorant on this, but Im guessin 3.4 kg would hurt.

I know it's not my place to say, but I REALLY recommend promoting some of the mods to admin status so they can do stuff like banning IPs and email addresses. At least temporarily.

They use zombie PCs anyway, so banning IPs or emails would do nothing - where that would help is being able to delete an users entire record of posts instead of doing it post by post. The current administration doesn't seem to keen on the idea though.

Wait, you have to delete each post separately? I thought you could just delete the account and all the posts get deleted along with it.

Dang, I didn't realize it was so time-consuming.

Edit: Now spam advertising fireplaces? What the heck? Hm... they really are getting creative.

*Le sigh* It seems there is much spam - and recently-ish I started getting more spam on my least public e-mail addy. Sadness :( . Even worse though - someone I knew in HS who isn't stupid runs one of the biggest spam empires in the US. He has tried to recruit my ex and my ex's old roommate/best friend. They wouldn't do it. Unfortunately having known him has zero benifits. You would think any association to a spam-king could get you spam-free-ness, but no.

I (and everyone else at uni - our emails were leaked or something) got like 3 spam emails for those 'xbox giveaway' things. Some people are getting really pissed off and replying to the spam (its not spambots, its people who already signed up - if they were bots i don't think they'd have a uni email address). I didn't reply because a) it seems like it would annoy people just as much as the spam, and b) i can't be bothered. Its just funny that all of the subjects have been 'this is not spam'. If there was a spambot called 'this is not a spambot', you wouldn't believe it. Also, even if they are genuine, its still a pyramid scheme.

Your pointless posts are almost as bad as spam :P

Actually what is worse than spam is chain emails, when my dearest friends get scared that a seven year old with no eyes or limbs will murder them in their sleep and so they cram up my inbox with the stupid emails.

But there's no need to call it 'This is not spam - 100% genuine' unless it looks like spam. Which probably means it is spam.
