Georges Melies comic!

Postby meliescomic » Sun Aug 07, 2011 1:14 am UTC

Hi all, I've been working on a comic strip based on the movies of silent filmmaker Georges Melies. The idea is that these strips are the films of his that got destroyed. I'd love it if someone could check it out and give feedback!

Interestingly esoteric comic. I only know Melies from his classic Moon film, and wasn't aware of his other works. Definite dreamlike quality to the stories, and a woodcut quality to the art I like. The Queen in the first issue was giving me a weird Wonder Woman vibe, though. ;)

From what little I've seen of Georges Melies:

The devil should appear in a puff of smoke.

Also every panel should be from the point of view of someone looking at a stage. :D
Teleleli The people, places, gods and monsters of the great city and the islands around.

Hey, thanks everyone! Kewangji: I am, I did a prologue that's up on the site now, and I plan to do more. rhomboidal: "Dreamlike" is exactly what I was going for, and "woodcut" is an added bonus. Age of Fable: Technically I shouldn't use title cards at all, it should all just be silent, and the perspective should never change. The smoke is a good idea tho.

Mantle, Daughter of Van Helsing

Postby meliescomic » Tue Feb 07, 2012 9:01 pm UTC

The idea was to capture that weird feel of fly-by-night Golden Age comics, where not much was explained, the whole thing is kind of creepy and intense even though the art is amateurish, and the character is never seen again after one issue. Like one of the 10,000 Batman ripoffs in the 1940s who killed vampires. Loosely in the style of Fletcher Hanks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fletcher_Hanks).

New comic up at website

Postby meliescomic » Sat Mar 24, 2012 4:49 pm UTC

My new daily comic is up at http://robertbrudos.webs.com/the-sea-is-stormy-tonight. I think I'm gonna keep this page as a blog and move my comics over to the new website, it's just more visually suited to how they look.

(p.s. "daily" means for twenty days)

I completed The sea is stormy tonight. It might be the first thing I've done that has an actual beginning, middle and end. I'd love any feedback on it, positive or negative! http://robertbrudos.webs.com/the-sea-is-stormy-tonight
