The fact that so many of you are near me, and that I'm aware of who you all are, both astounds and a bit frightens me.

When you word it like that, I feel the same way.

Thanks to state of the art surveillance technology, I have the best possible notion I can come up with... until we develop mind-reading technology.

Or my actual answer: no. Who are you?

Hi! I'm Doug. I live around these parts. I'm a Capricorn, and laughing about it. I am convinced all faith based epistemologies are detrimental to the well being of society, where well being is (as cannot be avoided) determined according to a value system I have constructed, and laughing about it. I like long walks in the mountains, more so than beaches, but I don't have anything against them, certainly. My favorites have been the Pamirs and the Whites. My favorite mathematical theorem is Gauss Bonnet. I don't always renormalize, but when I do, I Hadamard subtract. My go to scotch is Laphroiag quarter cask; my go to beer is Long Trail Ale; I'm not very fond of wine. I has a kitty who is teh best. If I were an ice cream flavor, I would be pralines and cream, which I also just ate recently. If I were a scratch and sniff sticker I would be raspberry, which used to grow in my backyard. The berry, not the sticker. I give my students stickers on their exams, and they give me haiku. My favorite haiku is by Soin:

life
is like a butterfly
whatever that is

I actually meant "don't know who you are". Ah typos...

But yeah, the area surveillance technology would be a big enabler.

As for me, I'm a resident of Boston. And if you're familiar with the MFA, then by seeing my name and avatar you'd know I am quite familiar with it too.

I will not be around Sunday, but I am otherwise environmentally minded.

The zombie run was so tempting. Until I saw the registration fee. Now I want to set up our own zombie run in urban settings of Camberville. We can break into teams. One day team A is the zombies, the next the runners. Besides, I am more likely to run from zombies in urban settings.

The zombie run is kind of pricy as far as 5k's go, but keep in mind it includes all sorts of bonus shit! You get a T-shirt! And a beer! And there's actually a concert after party, so really, think of it more like paying 50 some odd bucks to go do some silly activity for the day, get a giant pint of post run booze, and get to party with a bunch of exhausted drunks and people in zombie get ups!

That said, I think a XKCD zombie would in the Boston area would be rad.

Ok... so while this meetup isn't in Camberville or even Mass, I'm posting here since many of you come down to my parties anyways!

October 22 in CT I'm throwing my 2nd annual Halloween Extravaganza! Last year was quite successful, and everyone had plenty of space to sleep. If we get overloaded, we can even set up tents in the back yard (i have enough space for a small hooverville). The event is posted on the FaceBook and some of you have gotten back to me. We can chat here about some stuff if you'd like, or I can create a new thread if enough people show interest!

oh, hey, that's what "Moving Planet" is? I saw a poster, but assumed movie and didn't pay much attention. And no. I have to work tonight (and I've already lost most of Saturday).

Not really. I haven't been to Otherside in forever, but if you guys aren't up for basing initial contact in a restaurant, let me know. we can also, heaven forbid, make a party of this at someone's house, but mine sucks for gatherings, so I cannot volunteer loads of space.

(but you'd get to see my doggie, so...)

Your hotel is a perfect place to meet up actually. If you're not comfortable broadcasting here the name, we can say here who is coming and you can PM us the location. I can also give your mother my phone number so she can reach us if she has any concerns. So far, it sounds like dinner is a plan. Anyone want to do more? I'm all for walking around the city (but I love doing that).

And Utah is a big empty place. Boston is full of stuff. I can understand the difference.

True, there is a higher chance of being eaten by wild animals in Utah.

Hm. I may go to that. I am at the MFA constantly as I'm in a few-block radius 5 days a week and have a free pass. Possibly.

I also want to go check out the new Modern Art section and see "The Clock'.

A few other things I should probably brush up on too. I am determined to learn the Hieroglyphics in the Djehutynakht room.

This might not classify as a meetup but anyone in/near/visiting Boston, if you haven't seen them I recommend both visiting the Museum of Fine Art's new Contemporary Art Gallery and the Museum of Science's "A Day in Pompeii" exhibit (if you've never been to either venue I recommend visiting the entirety of both).

The MFA's new contemporary art gallery is amazing. The stuff is cool. Amongst everything some of my favorites were:
-A white platform. When you sit down on it, the artist has programmed it to admit tiny almost-indetectable vibrations to mimic those on a sheet of ice on the arctic ocean. It's really cool.
-A video section containing short videos of: a woman stacking blocks, a woman floating on a watermelon in the Dead Sea and five lawyers in a sort of interpretive dance choreographed based on the gestures and movements they had made in court one day (weird, fascinating and hillarious).
-A chandeleir. Which blinks. In morse code (as well as an explanatory screen which translates the philosophic coded messages)

It truely is an awesome, awesome gallery.

A Day in Pompeii is also a truely awesome exhibit. The body casts are absolutely haunting and amazing and they have this small field of skeletons.... (casts were put in the spaces between them so they are still in the exact, hauntingly magnificent poses they were in when they died). The artifacts are magnificent and the explanations informative. I didn't do the audio tour but it sounded interesting from the bits and pieces I picked up from nearby people. Pompeii also had a lot of fairly erotic art (on the most mundane of objects too) which you can use to tease that one awkward friend... But the exhibit in itself really is very stunning.

I spent about 4 hours in each and wouldn't mind going back again. Highly reccomended.

A request for ye Somervillains and Medford-ites:

For a film project, I am making a short video about the economic and environmental aspects of the Green Line Extension, which is currently scheduled to reach Union Square in 2016 and College Avenue/Tufts in 2019. I have an interview with a project manager and possibles with a handful of local politicians. However, I really want to have some interviews from 1. Somerville and Medford residents who 2. can talk intelligently about why the cities need better public transit / why the current system sucks and hurts them.

I have a pretty flexible schedule, but the interviews have to be in the next 2 weeks.

If any of you are possibly willing, or know people who would be, please PM me. Thanks!

Just ask a station agent at a T station. Or get one at the T sales offices at... uh, well, Harvard has one! and South Station and Back Bay and Downtown Crossing and bunches of random stores like certain Shaw's or 7-11s. But mostly, just ask the people in the stations, that's easiest.
You want to know the future, love? Then wait:
I'll answer your impatient questions. Still --
They'll call it chance, or luck, or call it Fate,
The cards and stars that tumble as they will.
