Yeah, with the old widowmaker I was really careful with my shots. I'm accurate enough that I could make it work, but if you were lazy you would be screwed very fast. With the new widowmaker I just hold M1 and try to follow the target. Yeah, some shots will miss, but maximizing the rate of fire is more important than maximizing accuracy, since you'll get endless metal either way.

I had a great replay where a medic kritz'd me and I wrecked house, I ended up with 17 kills that life (a personal best for engineer). Unfortunately the replay gives me one of those fucking GetDynamicBaseline errors so I can't watch it.

Mask Fortress 2 is awesome! I joined in November last year, so this is my first time playing it, and I have so far got:

-The Head
-Haunted Metal
-Mildly Disturbing Mask
-Pyro and Demo mask

Not sure what I'm going to do with the haunted metal - I don't have any normal metal anyway.

Eh, to be honest I don't really like the look of either of them. I think I'll just save up for the Dragonborn Helm.

:o Just got a name tag through random drops

What should I name? My Strange Sniper Rifle? What should I call it? :o

My steam names' box boy and I'm in the 'add me'-sticky thing, if you're interested in trading that haunted metal for the Heavy's Football Helmet.

Also, totally the rifle. (I'd call it the Bodyshotter and change the description to U Mad? As soon as possible, myself)

You can't trade the metal, sorry :(

And yeah, bodyshotter sounds like a great name, given my usual playstyle :P <3 sniper

Edit: As soon as I renamed it 'bodyshotter', my skill decreased drastically. I just want to live up to its name D:

Bodyshotter is fine and all, but putting U mad? in the description is just........no D: The number of scouts that have "MEATSHOT 8)" as the name of their scatter with "UMAD?" as the description is infuriatingly large.

Yep, a Halloween version of Viaduct (Eyeaduct or some spelling thereof). Killing the boss gets you a new holiday hat (similar to the HHH's head), and the first person to go through the portal he leaves when he dies can loot an object to get an action item (or maybe misc, I only saw it briefly on some lucky sob, who killed me right before I could get into said portal) that makes you 'explode fantastically when you die'.

Also, you should have a 'cauldron' in your backpack, which is a free to open crate. It gives you at least one holiday hat (a new one, the guaranteed one is I think the same for everyone), with the possibility of other Halloween costumes (I obtained the soldier's halloween costume mask, and I saw someone running around with the costume boots).
Look, you know it's serious when a bunch of people in full armor and gear come charging in to fight a pond of chickens - Steax

I want the spy costume, all I have is the Goggles and the server I play on hasn't been able to get enough players together for gift drops. I will happily trade the heavy boots and/or some metal and/or random items for the rest of the costume

Halloween event:
It happens on koth_something, a special version of koth_viaduct.

At random intervals, MONOCULUS spawns from the control point, graying it. It cannot be captured as long as MONOCULUS is alive.
MONOCULUS goes away after 2 minutes. He blinks around, firing crockets at players and buildings.
Weapons seem to have lower distance damage falloff on him.

When he blinks around, you can enter a portal. You enter the underworld, taking a heavy damage over time effect. If you manage to exit the underworld, you are healed fully, ubered, and kritzed for a few seconds. Hitting MONOCULUS in this state stuns him.

Most players are assholes and while shoot you in the back in the underworld, then exit and use the kritz to kill people and not the boss.

When MONOCULUS dies (almost never happens, due to shitstain cunt assholes horsefuckers, yes I mad) he leaves a portal behind for 2-3 seconds. You can enter it. I suggest shooting at the other team inside, because they will shoot at you. 10ish seconds after you entered, a cage will open with a book in it. Any survivors should touch the book to be teleported out, with a brand new misc (effect: get gibbed on death, very very nice with the dead ringer).

The bombonomicon has no holiday restrictions.

Image

Inked in the blood, bound in the hide and written on the stolen paper of British kings! With over 400 pages of spells, enchantments, recipes and anecdotes about blowing things up, the Bombinomicon is a must-have for the practicing explosives aficionado and demolitions expert alike. Now in its fifteenth printing, every copy of the Bombinomicon is guaranteed to be possessed by an angry talking ghost.

"Unputdownable! This book's jaws are like a vice." - Gravel Pit Arts Monthly

Once everyone has the achievements (and who doesn't at this point?) there is no point in having a truce during the boss fight and underworld. Escaping gives you a huge advantage, so why let your opponents do it?

Ah, the ironies of game theory.

I didn't really find it difficult to get the Bombonomicon, but I haven't managed to get any presents at all. Probably because I got tired of koth_eyeduct after an hour and went back to playing maps that are actually fun  .

97% of the players actually. Or 94% if we consider that half of the players are inactive.

I wouldn't pay attention to that. I can't get a link, but according to Steam only 23.3% of people got the crowbar in Half-Life 2.

How can you seriously not remember the shotgun in Ravenholm?

Actually, in all seriousness I find that after awhile the gravity gun got boring in Ravenholm. This is right around the time you get the shotgun. Oh Valve. On the otherhand, there is now an achievement for playing all of Ravenholm with just the gravity gun (HL2 didn't have achievements on Steam the last time I played it), so next time I play through it it will have to be gravity gun only. Oh Valve.

(I'm really tempted to start my third "Play all the HL games in order" run right now.)

I personally found the Half Life games horrendously boring and thought the level design was rather ugly.

And yet, I still loved using the Gravity Gun for the city portion of Ravenholm. (The mine area was pure rubbish, though)

That took me a good 10 minutes to figure out I had to shoot it instead of just building a tower and jumping on the ladder above the grate (which the game wouldn't let you do).

If you're where I'm thinking of. Though that was in 2 I think... or something...

My memory may be failing me, but wasn't the mine area, like, 5 minutes long? Nothing about it particularly stands out in my mind. Episode 2 had a much longer mine/antlion burrow area though.

There's an easy way to get through ravenholm using only the gravity gun.

Yeah, I agree. I actually liked the mine area on Ravenholm - it was a nice, relatively calm break from the insanity that preceded it.

Though I didn't like the antlion caves area in Episode 2, at least not on a second playthrough. Though it was made up for entirely with Vortal Combat.

Oh yeah, I totally discovered that myself.
Spoiler:
I got the idea of seeing how far in the game I could take that ball (not far, actually, it explodes in water and you must swim a short bit in the mine area), and then laughed my ass off when I found out that zombies attacked it. It makes fighting the dog zombies so much easier. I actually took some screenshots for fun. I'll probably use that trick for a gravity gun only run of ravenholm.

Just in case anyone thinks Half-life 2 is too slow, you can try this:
Code: Select all
sv_cheats 1
god
host_timescale 20

Of course jumping is a bit more difficult so you might have to sv_gravity 50.
