And Jumble, all summer long I walked past a small gym attached to some dorms, just a bunch of treadmills and bikes, and saw it at least a third full. People; it's 80 degrees and sunny, why would you sit inside and run on a fucking treadmill?

3653.6 + 7.5 = 3661.1

Izawwlgood wrote:People; it's 80 degrees and sunny, why would you sit inside and run on a fucking treadmill?

For me, there are a few reasons. The first, and primary one, is that I like to include weights into my workout. I'm a student, have a small apartment, and don't need to be spending money on a full out weight set. Instead, I run at the gym because it allows me to workout on their weights immediately after. It's a considerable distance, so I could run there and then lift (theoretically, if even the highway route wasn't a decent distance), but then I would have to come back. It'd be something like twenty miles every day, which is a huge chunk of time out of my evenings when I have work to do. And then there's the fact that the area I live in isn't always nice. If I can't get a run in when it's still sunny and light out, it could be a bit of a gamble.

I much prefer runs outside but since I'm not on campus anymore, the gym and the treadmill makes the most sense.

I think 9.8 is a new record for me.

Sorry, all. Still Tom & Dick (even had to find the sodding ventolin & steroid pumps) so,
3718.9 + 0.0 = 3718.9

However, I wanted to point out that we have competition. We're not going to let a bunch of Mamil's beat us, are we? I'll be right back with you as soon as I can breathe...

(PS @themis: personally, I was in no way dissing those who pound out miles on a treadmill. I find that even more impressive - don't think I could keep running that far without some sort of view to look at, or a spaniel to follow).

Finally spotted a decent running place in my latest town, with 400 m and 1km marks, surrounded by trees and away from car smoke... and lots of girls running too ^o^
oh, and flat surface... I mean, not a steepy road up and a steepy road down (running downway = blegh)

On the last one I didn't need the inhaler at all (which is just as well as I'd forgottent it). Ok, back to work...

Ugh. I might as well help out with my meager contribution here, too.

I've started running a 1.9 mile route in my neighborhood every other day, and today was my 7th go.

So... 1.9x7 = 13.3

3970.7 + 13.3 = 3984.

Guh. I've reached that point where my days off are making me miserable - I feel like I'm needlessly restraining myself from making progress (even though I know that, with my injury history (and generally rebellious body), I need to ramp things up slowly, or risk longer stretches of downtime).

After screwing around on Google maps for a while trying to adjust my 1.9 mile route closer to 2 miles, I noticed a nice, easy modification to my loop that puts it at 2.5 even. I allowed the convenience to persuade me, so that starts tomorrow.

Baby steps, baby steps.
(Next baby step will be re-introducing myself to back-to-backers - i.e. advancing from running every other day, to 4 times a week.)

Sorry about the double post, but this is an "oh hell yes" moment.

On Sunday, I did my fastest yet 1.9 mile run in 14:44, or at a pace of approx 7:46 per mile.

Today, I did my first 2.5 mile run, in 18:43, or at a pace of approx 7:29 per mile (my goal was 20 minutes for this, the first time out). And it felt gooood.

Well, there goes any excuse I might have had to be lazy moving forward; no excuse for not improving on that next time out. Guess it's time to officially declare the warm-up a.k.a. 're-awakening-my-pathetic-body' period of my workout regimen over, and starting getting some work done.

Sooo....
