Zoo Mafia 3: End

Postby Silknor » Sun Oct 30, 2011 2:56 am UTC

The Evil Penguin stood on top of the Zoo's glacier. Lurking, laughing, lying. Ready and waiting.

Zoo Mafia 3

Co-Mods: Weiyaoli and RoadieRich

Time to make your submissions! We need 2 from each player:
1. The Name of Your Animal (There can only be one of each kind, but African and Asian Elephants are counted separately for example)
2. A state of mind/emotion/personality trait. This is not yours. It'll be assigned to another player.

Basic Info:
1. There is no cult.
2. There's an unusual mechanic, and plenty of non-vanilla roles, but no real bastardy.
3. All PMs, both actions and any night talk, should be sent to all 3 mods.
4. The privacy of any night talk is not guaranteed, please take appropriate precautions.

Player List:
Spoiler:
1. Lataro (Must. Play. Zoo. Mafia.)
2. mpolo (These are the best games evar! I am out until Nov. 2nd, but that's less than 7 days, so it should be O.K., right?)
3. AngrySquirrel
4. webby
5. ForAllOfThis (Zoo Mafia - best mafia game on the market)
6. Thirdkoopa
7. Misnomer (I must be mad to sign up for this, but I can't resist...)
8) Mavketl
9. roband

Re: Zoo Mafia 3 [Role PMs Sent, Pregame]

Postby Silknor » Mon Nov 07, 2011 9:22 pm UTC

When the Ice Age came, the humans fled south. It was not clear if they were running from the glacier, or the Evil Penguin standing atop it and guiding it, or if they were simply following the retreat of the arable land. But there reasons mattered little, for they had made a mistake, one so grave that the stories of its consequences would chill the bones of their descendants.

In all the haste of their evacuation, no one had remembered to bring the true residents of ZooKCD with them, the animals. And tensions started rising as the productive land within the Zoo's enclosure shrunk. Soon it became clear that only a small proportion of the current residents could survive on the newly diminished food supply. Following the ways of their ancestors, they formed a committee to study the problem, but some among them thought this to be too little, too late. And so one frigid morning, the town arose to find the body of one of their dear friends, Sheriff Hippopotamus, with a note attached warning that there would be more deaths until ecological balance had been restored. And so the animals had two problems: at least one murderer was running free, and the only one with the experience to bring them to justice had been cruelly taken from them. The solution to both of these problems was clear enough: they would form the time-tested tribunal of justice, infinite in its patience and wisdom, impeccable in its judgement, the lynch mob!

The Evil Penguin stood on top of the Zoo's glacier. Lurking, laughing, lying. Ready and waiting.

It is now Day 1. 9 Players. 5 to lynch.

Unvote

Ok, serious time. 9 players.

3 scum? Maybe, but town would need to have some decentish powers.
2 scum, 1 indy? Another potential.

I hope we don't have multiple factions, just to avoid complicatedness (I hate mods who create games with multiple factions!).

Past games have resulted in scum groups of similar animals (water animals in at least one of them, IIRC) so we should look out for similar things.
Does anyone want to claim our animal names straight off the bat?
That way, should we have any cop powers around we can immediately know if someone lied! I can guarantee that I will not draw assumptions based on your animal name - however I will look at potential links between claimed animals.

P.S. I did NOT just breadcrumb that I am a BAT. It's just a phrase, y'know?

I think we should at least claim the emotional thingy we sent in. Not sure about claiming full role names, I guess they could display weaknesses or abilities?

Because we chose our own animals. At this juncture town have no reason to lie. No-one is going to 'catch us out', so anyone who DOES lie can be caught out by a cop. Which is a potential power in the game.

The emotions were chosen by others. Scum can lie both about what they submitted AND what they have actually got, and potentially paint town players in a bad light by doing so.

meta: I hate it when Mav doesn't see something from the same angle as me. First thought - "she's clever, if she's not seeing it, she might be scum"
Second thought - "maybe I'm being thick, like usual, and jumping the gun"
Third thought - "that's what she WANTS me to think" :P

I dunno.

I sure do expect to be talking about post restrictions a lot this game. I see them everywhere.

roband wrote:The emotions were chosen by others. Scum can lie both about what they submitted AND what they have actually got, and potentially paint town players in a bad light by doing so.
Barring rolecops (rather than alignment cops), we have no way of finding out someone's animal until they die. There will be relatively little 'conflict' caused by lying about your animal.

If the scum team lies about their emotions, either sent in or received, there can be clear conflicts between claims. We like forcing scum to either give us information or risk getting caught in a lie. As for "painting town players in a bad light"... I don't really see how that would happen unless we allow it to happen.

Also I think we did it in both Zoo 1 en 2 (but I'm too lazy to look it up) and it didn't really backfire. In one of those, I refused to claim my emotional state because it gave away something about my (townie) powers/weaknesses, hence my hesitation to ask for a massclaim in this game.

This is not normal Mav. That's all I have to say for now.

Now might be a good time to inform you that Mavketl is a bastardized version of the Dutch word Mafketel, which means something like 'weirdo'. The 'maf' part of that word denotes the 'weird', so "normal Mav" is kind of a contradiction anyway.

I think that claiming what emotion we sent in should be relatively harmless and could be some use for rolespec.

Claiming what emotion or animal we received could be bad because of the potential to give away what some of our powers might be and possibly even how powerful we might be. On the other hand, it could give us links if scum are likely to be linked in that way. Overall, I think it's probably worth it and I wouldn't mind claiming my own animal and state of mind, except that I'm a little scared of a mechanism to prevent it. Is Silknor the type of mod who would be likely to punish us for claiming animals?

In terms of Mav and roband, I suspect they're taking to whatever state of mind they have.

And I got ninja'd. Excellent. :P

I knew it, we're doomed. Ice and cold and bleh. I hate ice, it's so...icy...

What exactly do we hope to gain from claiming at this juncture btw? Are some animals or emotions initially more scummy than others? Or are we hoping for flavour hints as to what emotions/animals does what?

I think claiming animals immediately gives us the best chance of catching anyone who might lie.
If we have any chance of ever catching them, that is. If there isn't, then it doesn't matter, but it can't hurt.

I sent in Relentless and Exacting.

I got Flabbergasted.

I have a posting restriction to quote any vote against me, and be flabbergasted by it.

Please follow the neat little format above, and we'll make a pretty chart of it. 8)

Funnily enough, I'm a little scared to reveal what the cowardly does - I can't see it being favourable to town to know it, while it could be useful for scum to know.

I sent in something too obnoxious for our mods to include (anterograde amnesia), and they changed it to 'gloomy'.
I received hallucinogenic. I'm not given full information about what that actually does, but I suspect cop abilities might be affected. I don't think anyone should be in danger by targeting me, but I can't guarantee that.

I have no posting restriction whatsoever. Not here sir, oh no.

Not A Raptor: Mav can be a very wily and dangerous player.
roband: Mav has a way of making everything seem right.

I sent in "pious" and got "relentless".

There seems to be a certain amount of paranoia in Mav's posting.

AngrySquirrel seems to be the one who got Mav's "gloomy" -- at least from the one post.

As I recall, in both games it was very hard to see the pattern that determined the scum until we were able to look back a bit. In one of them, we had a "tiger" masons and a "water" mafia, and in the other there was a "cute" mafia (we actually caught one of the mafia by looking at a picture of his animal and determining that he was "freaking adorable"). As a result, I would hold off on a full claim of animal types, just because (1) it won't help town too much and (2) is likely to help scum.

I don't like this, but if everyone else is doing it -

I sent in hyperactive and received pious.

I do not have a posting restriction. Only saying that to make Mav go off on one again haha

How? The only thing I can think of is that it could indicate a mason group, which the scum could then go after. I wouldn't expect a mason group in a 9 player game, personally.

I can't think of any other way it's going to help scum, or hurt town.

I'm on principle against massclaiming, especially on day 1, since it sucks out everything I find fun about games like these.

Massclaims also might be problematic if we have lyncherlike types around, which isn't something I consider too unlikely.

But whatever. We're doomed anyway.

I'm gloomy.
I sent in flabbergasted.
