You should have watched the Bills (And Erie is covered, I believe, by a station within the "forced-coverage" radius). Bills drubbing anyone 41-7 is hilarity.

So I have to wonder if this week's passing binge (an unprecedented 5 games featuring 300+ yards passing by BOTH QBs, including 517 by Tom Brady.) is going to be borne out for the rest of the season.

All the good analysis sites for the past few seasons claim that teams haven't been passing enough. Basically game theory tells you that teams should be passing enough until defenses predict the passing the average yards per pass attempt and average yards per run attempt equal*. It wouldn't surprise me if we have finally seen coaches catch up to that logic.

*Or that defenses currently aren't defending against passes enough... either way really.

I don't have TV at the moment, so I missed the Pats game - was The Tom Terrific Show as yardage-pornographic as it sounds?

Pretty much. The moneyshot was a touchdown pass from the 1/2 yard line to Wes Welker out of an empty-backfield set. Brady and Co. were begging for Miami to blitz and they obliged.

Miami did a lot better than the score shows.

Yeah, Miami kinda got bulldozed by Brady's passing. He's just not blitzable, unfortunately. That one sack was beautiful, but that's a once-in-a-season thing. All the big passes were coming when Miami was blitzing hard. Had it been a different QB and O-line, the result would have been very different.

And I fully support the all-out blitz on the 1/2 yard-line. It's the best option there, especially against an empty backfield set.

With Tom Brady alone in the backfield and one of the best short-route receivers in the biz on the line of scrimmage? There's no way that that ever isn't a trap.

Yeah, it's a trap, but if you can collapse it, it pays off. And Miami was in a position where they had to take that risk. If it had paid off, and Miami got a second sack on Brady for the safety, it would have been the end of the game. Forcing a safety on Brady would shake him for at least the rest of the game, and they needed to get him shaken.

Well, the Colts' season is over. Lost to the Browns and the Steelers are going to crush us next week. Guess the only thing left to cheer for is 1st overall draft pick next year. Yay 0-16!

Your season was over when you didn't have Manning. Colts defense relied on not being needed because of him. Colts offense doesn't work without Manning.

Well so the Packers, Lions and Bills are the three teams to go 3-0.(With the possibility of the 'Skins tonight)

Who could have seen that coming? Especially the Bills?

Well, everyone saw that happening with the Pack.

But the Lions and Bills? Not so much. And even the Skins would be a surprise if they do it.

The Bills going 3-0 is crazy. The win against the Patriots was mind-numbingly wild.
The Lions at 3-0, a bit less so, but then I'm expecting big things from them this year. The surprise to me is an 0-3 on the Vikings. They have incredible first halves, and then just kind of stop.

Packers gonna pack.

It's hardly fair to blame McNabb wholly for the failures of the Vikings O-line. Vikings O-line was crap last year, it's crap again this year.

Also, linking to his stats of a 59% completion rate, a TD:INT ratio of 2.5:1, and a career QB rating of 85.5 are hardly compelling arguments.

It is meant to be data backing up his over-the-hill-edness. You'll notice that since Philly cut him loose, we've been finding out why they wanted to do that.

Maybe... Although it would be interesting to know how he would have done if he'd stayed in the system he'd played for 10 years.

Why's everybody gotta hate on my towns quarterback.

Wait.... this just in... I watched the Monday night game. Yea, might just let you have him. To be fair, both teams showed a pretty poor performance there (Ravens/Jags), with the number of drops you'd think they greased the ball. Both teams had a tiny little man (5'7") they kept handing the ball to.

I just expected more from that game. That whole thing should make the blooper reel. One good thing? Joe Flacco threw a pass to himself. For fantasy purposes, does that count as a completion? Need all we can get. Granted, if he had just let it fall, the Ravens wouldnt have lost 9 yards.

Not only does it count for fantasy purposes, it counts in real life, too. Flacco was given a reception and credited (debited?) with -8 yards receiving.

Sorry Ben. We tried our best to give it to you guys. I called up my 2 favors with Forte and he came through. Probably doesn't help that you threw the 7 yard out route on the last play of the game.

And we didn't even need our 2nd string QB.

Have both wildcards ever come from the same division before? It seems like that would be at least statistically possible in both the AFC and NFC North this season. Won't happen, of course, but would be awesome if it did...

I'm happy, either way. Packers are putting away the wins, and it's fun to watch. I'm getting concerned they won't have the defense fixed by the playoffs, though. :?

Halfway through the season pretty much, who do people think will make it to the playoffs? My painfully unimaginative choices:

AFC: New England, Baltimore, Houston, San Diego (Wild cards - Pittsburgh, New York Jets)
NFC: New York Giants, Green Bay, New Orleans, San Francisco (Wild cards - Detroit, Atlanta)

Yeah, that wasn't how I envisioned things going down at 5am. :(
I'm still fuming at Jackson, fumbling that punt, and not being able to beat single coverage makes me wonder how the game would have gone without him.

That's happened a few times. I'm pretty sure the AFC east has done in, and definitely the NFC east (not this year :x ), and I think the NFC south.

As a Giants fan, I'm obliged to point out that their schedule for the second half of the season is at least 112 times harder than their first half, and that the Cowboys have a cake-walk in comparison. The NFC-East is likely to be decided when they play each other during the last few weeks.

I also wouldn't count out the Bears making it in lieu of the Lions; CHI has an easier road.

In the 90's there were at least 2 times Green Bay, Minnesota, Chicago and Detroit ALL went to the playoffs(back when they had 3 wild cards).

You would be right about the respective schedules for New York and Dallas, and I did bear that in mind. But this is Dallas we're talking about, and I'm confident in their ability to mess up a good opportunity.

1) A tear streamed down my face when I saw that my 2 year old thread still had some life in her.

2) Kansas City. WTF?!!? Be consistant.

3) Pittsburg and Philidelphia. WTF?!?!? So tired of losing money on these fools. (I am obligated to bet on every game every week due to prior agreements, so while I realize its my fault I lose money, I am a man of my word)

4) Anyone else like seeing NE brought down a peg?

5) Aaron Rodgers, 3 months AGO I would have swore an oath that Manning (Older brother) was the greatest QB in the history of the game. You make me doubt that assertation every game.

As I recall last season people on this thread were questioning whether or not his name could be spoken in the same sentence as Brees and Brady... We have an answer.

Honestly if he keeps up this pace he will have the single best quarterbacking season in NFL history. If he can do it for a couple more seasons, he could be considered one of the best, if not the best ever.

Meh. The Packers are more than Aaron Rodgers. The way I see it, Colts without Manning are 0-9, Packers without Rodgers might be 5-4. Passing statistics and wins reflect the strength of the overall team. I think the Packers are a playoff team without Rodgers, and are Superbowl Champs with him, while the Colts are the worst team in the league without Manning, but are a playoff team with him.

Clearly the Pack has the better defense, although you could argue the Colts D is designed to play with a lead... hence pass defense.

But are you watching Rodgers throws? Its Physics in motion and many times there is a point in time and space where the ball MUST be to get a reception... and Rodgers puts it there time and time again, even if its 40 yards downfield.

Rodgers is amazing. I still think that P. Manning is the greatest ever (or maybe was the greatest ever... have to see how his neck heals up) but Rodgers is having the greatest season ever.

I think Manning really helped change the way the game is played. Sure, the movement to a passing heavy game was happening before him but he was really the catalyst imo.
