It's not impossible, just highly highly improbable. Especially if they are out of shape. Counting the beats per 10 seconds and timing by 6 is an indication of low, medium, high and very high! at best since it's so inaccurate

He might have calculated his pulse to be 250...but it wasn't. Its called tachycardia at that point and he'd need a good electric shock to re-establish sinus rhythm if his pulse was actually at 250. Faulty calculation =/= pulse @ 250.

I did only count for ten seconds, so it is admittedly not all that accurate. My heart rate was disgustingly high though.

Well, the general rule of thumb is max heart rate = 220 - <your age>. Thats not 100% true based on fitness levels and genetics, but is accurate for the vast majority of the population. Generally speaking...anyone from mid teens to mid twenties has a MHR of ~200.

286lb deadlift. Was hoping for higher but seeing as though I haven't trained deadlifts for two months, when I previously maxed out, I can't complain.

Starting in a month I will be keeping track of my swim fitness, as the place we're moving into has a) a lap pool, and b) is one block from the awesomest lake in the Okanagan, aptly named... Okanagan Lake. After just going for a couple dips with my kids over the past few weeks as we get acclimated to moving to a whole new town, I've realized just how exhausting actually swimming is, as opposed to just goofing off in a pool. I look forward to the challenge! :D

I mostly made this post so you people will get on my case in a month if I DON'T start keeping track of my progress.

From my freshman track year

Open 400m: 52.80
4x400 Relay Split: 51.00 (Adrenaline was running through me like crazy as I tried to close a 35m gap)
5k: 21:33 (I just do 5k's for fun now and then

Bench: 135lbx10 (That equals to about 180lb once)
Squat: 175lbx12 (About 252lb once, I'm awful at squat)
Deadlift: Never done a max but during workouts I could get a weight close to 300lb multiple times.

1 minute pushups: 68
1minute situps: 65
Most pullups (palms facing me, full extension): 19

For my Marine corps initial Physical Fitness Test at training this summer, I ran a personal record 18:40 3-mile. A perfect score is 18:00, so if I can shave off 40 seconds sometime in the next year, I can get a perfect PFT. Something to work toward.

Voluntarily, or did some calamitous car breakdown in the middle of nowhere occur? I can't imagine wanting to walk 40 miles

1600m: 5:21
3200m: 11:13
5000m: 17:34, but this was on my very fast home course. My best time at a normal course is 18:01

I should break my 1600 and 3200 records when spring track rolls around, since I've been running since winter season last year and it's been hard to train this winter (snow, sickness, and a colder-than-usual winter for my area of the US).

Voluntarily, although not planned. The farthest I've ever walked with a specific mileage plan beforehand is 30 miles, and I've planned to walk in the neighborhood of 20 miles many, many times. The 40 miles was walking about 5 miles to a movie theater for an afternoon show, and then deciding to walk all night instead of walking directly home, to spend the night before my spouse flew out together and awake instead of asleep. It worked out very well, except for the fact that I wasn't really dressed for the weather in the wee hours of the morning, when I was at my most tired and absolutely worn out. I did seriously consider hailing a cab as we were walking home, and last 5 miles or so was pretty torturous, but I'm glad we did it and I felt fine later that day and the next day. Routinely walking 20 miles makes walking 40 miles a lot easier.

I signed up for a marathon in March and I've been training for 3 months for it. I'm not a distance runner so I'm especially proud of these lame times.

1 mile-7:45 (High school was 6:30 but I don't count that anymore)
2 mile- 16:30
5k-27:13
11k-1h4m
10 miles-1h58.

Up to 225 on the dead and 110 on the OHP, and set records for set-five reps on all five this week. RAWR. I am plateauing pretty hard, though... time to transition to mid-winter treadmilling. Anyone up for a jogging challenge?

Got access to a gym today thanks to my roommate, with the intent of attempting personal bests at squat and deadlift for the first time in nearly eight years.

Old personal best on squat was 220 (frankly, probably a couple inches above parallel), and deadlift was 350. I've never understood why my squat is so terrible compared to my other lifts. I put more effort into it than anything, and have historically seen least progress.

Anyway, hit 245 on squat today, good solid ATG. So, I'm thrilled with that. Tapped out at 300 on deadlift, though. Not thrilled with that. Really thought I would do better. I guess if I get a chance I'll try again when I haven't done a bunch of squatting first (though I certainly didn't feel like I could have had 50lbs more in me under any circumstances).

Well, really happy with the squat, at least, since it's always been my weakness. And, while it wasn't easy, I also feel like I'm only just starting to really hit my lifting stride. I think I'm a good ways away yet from my first plateau.

I am, however, heading out in 3 days for a 2 week long backpacking trip. I expect to have lost nearly all of my progress by the time I get back. :(
