Help needed

Postby MartrK » Tue Nov 22, 2011 12:37 am UTC

I find my computer skills have failed me, and I'm in need of advice on how much wattage a new PSU for my computer I would need.

My system as it is today:
Motherboard - Gigabyte G41M-ES2L
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E7400
RAM: 2GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+
HDD: 1TB, 160GB (SATA, I believe)

Also a low level network card and disk drive and such.

If someone could help me out in how much wattage a new PSU would need to support my system, that would be great.

How much do you need? <300W.
What should you buy? ~400W.

The last time I bothered checking most lesser wattage supplies were trash. Either the Antec EA-380D or the Corsair CX430 will probably be on sale at the end of the week for ~$20AR (there are other options, those are just off the top of my head.)

Not much, frankly.

Worst-case load power consumption isn't going to break 350W - I can't find perfectly comparable numbers, but a system with a beefier GPU (GTX260 c216) and CPU (OC'd C2Q QX9770) doesn't hit that level, either. A good quality 450W or 500W PSU should be plenty - less would probably be fine, too, but it can be hard to find good power supplies much below that point, and a little breathing room isn't a bad thing.

EDIT: Bah, ninjas
