The Muppets (2011)

So, um, yeah.

I'm one of the children who grew up never having watched The Muppet Show. I watched Sesame Street but I was totally unaware of the existence of the other characters.

In sum, this was the most enjoyable movie I have watched all year (and this includes Thor and Captain America, geeky action movies right up my alley, but Muppets beat them out) and would highly recommend it if you want to spend an hour or so on non-mean-spirited comedy.

I enjoyed it, too. I was firmly a Nickelodeon kid when I was younger, so no Muppets or Sesame Street for me. My wife finally made me watch The Muppets Take Manhattan a couple years ago.

But, yes. Very fun. Very silly.

The trailers alone cracked me up. I liked the sneak romantic comedy trailer but the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo parody was pretty much gold, too.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo parody was definitely my favourite of the lot, but the marketing campaign in general has been genius.

Yeah, this was a great comeback movie for the Muppets. They've been cranking out incredible online videos for years. Everybody loves them. And now they come out with a movie that is sweet and touching but in a very self-aware sort of way, so that you can be moved by it, but also removed from it at the same time if you want so as not to seem too schmaltzy.

My wife and I went with our four sons (ages 5-17). Everyone had a wonderful time, except the 5-year-old who was bored and antsy half the time. Cuz it's a kids movie, but not really a kids movie.

Muppet of a Man was by far my favorite number in the film. I'm completely in love with that sequence.

Right, and I had a ball playing "spot-the-cameo." Nominations for most inexplicable cameo? I'd go with the kid from Modern Family. He didn't even say anything, just followed Selena Gomez around?

I just got back from this, and had a big grin on my face when I wasn't laughing. Really great movie!

The Toy Story short in front was amazing, also!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the Pixar short. It was pretty much gold from start to finish - some of the biggest laughs came from the parody of fast food menus in the credits.

Absolutely--Tae Kwon Doe made me laugh a lot.

Also--as for that kid from Modern Family, I totally didn't get him. My kids had to explain who he was later.

It was kind of scary when I was studying the textures of the fast food toys. Remember in Toy Story I when all the surfaces had more or less the same plastic-y texture? Pixar is now good enough to simulate different types of plastic. And I loved the detailed seams on the toys, presumably resulting from the fictional injection mold process.
