Nerd Pride Radio -- my podcast

Postby Nerd Mike » Wed Dec 07, 2011 5:25 pm UTC

This here is my podcast: Nerd Pride Radio

I'm a lifelong nerd, a husband, gamer, and father of four. Every week, I spend the first half of my show talking about whatever's on my mind, most frequently role-playing games, science, and general nerd culture. Then the second half is the Pod-O-Matic where I roll randomly against a list of topics and questions sent by listeners and talk about whatever comes up on the chart. Every week also has music and The Badass Movie Quote of the Week.

My latest is Episode 16 - Spam Spam Spam Spam. I talk about feathers on t-rexes. I introduce the Pseudo-Science Corner. And I spend a few minutes on the intricacies of Hangman in my gaming section. The Pod-O-Matic has a surprise movie review, a tribute to Scandanavians, and how I would handle the lamest mummy invasion ever.

Check it out. I hope you like it.

My latest is Episode 17 - Outnerded. I talk about my pick for nerd of the year, my ongoing RPG, and rage over my wealth of gadgets. There's a little Beastie Boys, and then in the random portion of the show, I talk about my love of Fred Hicks, the movie The 13th Warrior, and the game Paranoia... among other things.

Music from AWOLNATION, and of course R2 with the Pod-O-Matic. This week's Pod-O-Matic: Star Wars v. Star Trek; are there RPGs in Russia; a new Kiss-Marry-Kill; cheese talk; and the long-awaited A-Team/Kidd Video mashup! So strap in and take a listen!

For Christmas, Mike has not one... but TWO gaming topics this week: Method 1 characters, and the secret lives of teen roleplayers. Plus, Mike is apparently in love with Kaylee Frye and hates Twilight. Go figure. This week's awesome music is from King Charles, and R2's Pod-O-Matic asks all the tough questions: Hippo or chimp? Team Edward or Team Jacob? Voldemort or Sauron? Plus the final word on the superiority of real dice over random number generators. All that and a pegacorn? You bet! Merry Christmas!

Enjoy!

EPISODE 20 - Chimp with a Katana!

It's the first episode of the new year! Mike talks about Pathfinder and gaming with his youngest sons. He havers on about his favorite cartoon voice actors and Order of the Stick. And somehow he still finds time for TWO movie reviews on the SciFi Double Feature! All of this, and R2 still brings the Pod-O-Matic, with bits on Saturday Night Live, Power Pack, an X-Men pillow fight, the final word on the greatest Star Trek captain of all time, plus... a little Inspiration.

Enjoy!

Holy cow! There's three brand new segments this week! Mike explores the world's disdain for pegacorns in Pegacorns Revealed. He finally gives the cheese it's own segment in The Cheese Culture Report. Plus, there's Chinese pirates in The Unnamed History Segment. As if that wasn't enough, there's interstellar travel in The Science Corner, Instant Game fun on the Gaming Table, and Mike caps it all off by bringing back the Nerd Rage! Music from Hayseed Dixie. And on the Pod-O-Matic, R2 brings Rock-Paper-Scissors, Blade Runner, more John Hughes movies and a classic Kiss/Marry/Kill. Can you believe you're getting all this for free?

Enjoy!

Mike got his first Cease & Desist! So start with that. But he's also got his first ever Nerd Pride Book Report on... the Hunger Games! Russell Peters gets punk'd by the King of Jordan, and Mike vents his Nerd Rage on Cracked.com.Not enough for you? Then rock out with the incredibly awesome Lloyd's Garage, and then help R2 roll out his dice for the Pod-O-Matic: there's Car Wars and zombies and Robotech and DC/Marvel mashups mixed in with the entries too bizarre to describe here. Soak it up!

Enjoy!

Nerd Pride Radio #23 - Terror at Camp Pinewood

Postby Nerd Mike » Mon Jan 30, 2012 4:25 am UTC

This here is my podcast...

Mike may be sleep deprived, but he loves you so much, he's still here cranking out the quality material! First, he takes a bold and controversial stance against snobbery, and then he shares the latest roleplaying game that he's created: a horror game featuring Boy Scouts called Terror at Camp Pinewood. Then he babbles incoherently for a bit before introducing the joys of ROKU! in a brand new segment. The music this week comes from Ok Go, and of course no episode would be complete without the Pod-O-Matic! This week, R2 serves up bits on the Konami Code, 30-sided dice, Talk Like a Pirate Day, the smoky allure of Susan Boyle, and no less a topic than THE MEANING OF LIFE! Never has an episode of Nerd Pride Radio been so crucial! Get in there!

Enjoy!

Episode 24 - King Harald the Hardass

Postby Nerd Mike » Mon Feb 06, 2012 1:55 pm UTC

Some weird electrical feedback threatens to destroy the sound quality for this week's 'cast, but luckily, Mike manages to single-handedly save the show! Mike gives his opinion on the upcoming 5th edition of D&D, and then puts his favorite year--1066--into the spotlight for the unnamed history segment. He offers up two unwatched films for the Sci-Fi Double Feature, and doles out not one... but TWO nerd rages! Mumford & Sons provides this week's music, and Mike goes into full psycho mode for the Badass Movie Quote of the Week. All of that and R2 still delivers a full steaming plate of random podcasting: beholders, Ryan Reynolds, a princess fight... and so much more! 90 minutes of pure nerd awesome wrapped up in a single spectacular podcast!

Enjoy!

Episode 25 - Radio Silence

Mike opens with the greatest astronomer to ever lose his nose in a duel, followed by the most awesome toy of the year. Mike introduces The MaryAnn Effect and havers on at length about his ROKU! Plus Jabba the Truck, Casa de mi Padre, and the Whitney Houston time machine. But that's not all! On the Pod-O-Matic, find out what one listener has done with Joss Whedon's head, what exactly Number Two's duty is, as well as the winner of the ultimate nerd showdown: Pan vs. Rabbit (plus Polly Pocket takes on Rainbow Bright in the bonus warmup match)! So tell me... do you think you're nerd enough?

Episode 26 - Portal, GenCon, and Comic Timing

Late but still awesome! Recoving from illness, Mike still manages to pack tons of nerdy goodness into this abbreviated podcast: Mike finally discovers the joy that is Portal, plus gives his ameteur advice on attending GenCon. New Futurama episodes hit Mike's Roku, plus he havers on about celebrity baby names, and in the new Comic Timing segment, he recounts breaking into neighbor's homes as a child. And with R2 batting cleanup on the Pod-O-Matic, there's some Toontown, old gaming war stories, and your favorite 80's sitcom cast as D&D characters. C'mon, you know you can't look away now!

Enjoy!

Episode 27 - Warrior Dash, io9, and Raptors

Mike opens with Warrior Dash--the roughest, toughest, meanest race to ever wear a Viking helmet. Then it's all about Shared Space: traffic without signs. Io9--the geek news site designed solely to cater to Mike's nerd predilictions. He waxes philosophical about TV mini-series, and wraps up with a healthy dose of Nerd Rage! Then it's R2's turn: he cranks out a baker's dozen on the Pod-O-Matic with such vital, life-altering questions as... Obi Wan v. Jet Li? Your favorite Greek city-state? And what would Mike do for a Klondike Bar? You can't miss this... the fate of the universe hangs in the balance!

Episode 28 - Chips & Dips
Mike explains how the "Phyletic Size Decrease in Hershey Bars" directly impacts his chippin' and dippin' recreations. Then there's yet another awkward nerd encounter, and Mike's idea for his new TV show: Harvey Manor. And everyone's favorite: Nerd Rage! In part 2, R2 brings out the Pod-O-Matic and Mike talks about Sons of Anarchy, gnomes, Bob Hoskins, John Cusack, and Mike's favorite Marvel character of all time. Plus, hidden somewhere in there is an embarrassing story from Mike's childhood, and the pros and cons of selling your soul to be a better DM. This is information you can't live without!
Nerd Pride Radio, Episode 28 - Chips and Dips

Episode 29 - Road House, Power Man, and Dark Energy
Mike finally made it through Power Man! Find out how it was. Then he tries to give advice on getting into RPGs and distracts himself with nostalgia. There's dark matter AND dark energy on the Science Corner, plus Road House and the Hunger Games in this week's movie double feature. And as if all that wasn't enough, R2 comes through with the Pod-O-Matic and makes Mike talk about M&Ms, eggs, Huey Lewis and the News, what happens when you combine portable holes with bags of holding PLUS no less than TWO kiss/marry/kills, and so much more! Come and get it while it's still hot!
Nerd Pride Radio, Episode 29 - Road House, Power Man, & Dark Energy

Episode 30 - Murder Lake and A Game of Thrones
Mike's a little giddy, because he's been proved right on the whole diet soda thing by no less an authority than... SCIENCE. On the history segment, he talks about Lake Nyos--the most murderingest lake ever. Mike toots his own horn for a while at the Gaming Table, talking about his own game Pariah. The Book Report finally gets to A Game of Thrones, and black holes dominate our Science Corner. All this before R2 makes his appearance: on the Pod-O-Matic, there's Clu Clu Land, Eddie Munster, Mike's curriculum for Nerdity 101, and John Carpenter the RPG... plus so much more. If you can only have one podcast episode on a desert island... this is the one!

I'm back from my summer haiatus, and there's a month's worth of episodes for everyone to catch up on. Here's the latest:

Episode 34 - Cloaca Maxima
Mike explores the underworld of Rome in the History Segment, babbles about his kids again at the Gaming Table, spends time in the Science Corner going from Neptune to space colonization to mass drivers and space elevators, and then wraps up with something different: spicy food. On the Pod-O-Matic, R2 serves up entries from over a dozen different listeners: Direcat has a new take on zombie defense. Skree explores werewolf pirates. Brasky *****es about laugh tracks. Daz yearns for more Daredevil. Ximni starts a new religion. And that's just the tip of the iceberg--there's so much more! Listen to this episode or Paul dad's will beat you with his cheese sword!

Episode 35 - Product Placement
Mike opens with a Book Report: More Song of Ice and Fire PLUS... the best time travel stories of the 20th century. In the Science Corner, Mike obsesses over hexaflexagons. Then in the Unnamed History Segment, Mike tells what cool stuff he has learned from his 3rd grader. You'll be amazed! But all that is just the teaser for the greatest product placement in all of movie history. Then R2 takes over for the Pod-O-Matic, and Mike covers D&D vampires vs. Underworld vampires, World of Warcraft's assimilation of Kung-Fu Panda, awkward gamers of all ages, and The Kids in the Hall. Add it all up, and you have the must-hear nerd podcast of the season. Don't miss it!

It's episode 40 and Mike's got a new sidekick! The Sisters Trung kick it all off in the Unnamed History Segment. Science betrays Mike horrifically in the Science Corner. And The Hobbit and Safety Not Guaranteed both get the treatment in the Sci-Fi Double Feature. As an added bonus: exclusive interview with Smeagol! In the Pod-O-Matic, R2 brings the awkward with rechargable batteries, "irregardless", fear of the dark, and... what Mike would look like if he were entirely made of candy! It's not pretty. Don't be the last of your friends to discover this week's secret coded message!

Enjoy!
