Today I got a Rainbow Dash, and I showed my parents FiM (Ep1). Neither went over very well.

Now I need to style and cut the hair so it isn't terrible.

I didn't get any pony toys, which is simultaneously good and bad.

I was scared that if they would get me one, they'd get me the wrong one... I'm only interested in Fluttershy.

In retrospect I shouldn't have shown them it and just left them to wonder exactly how it would have to be in order to make me buy one. Anyone else considering telling adults*: do that.

*Over 30.

Instead I just get the few comments they made circling around my head constantly (Rarity/Spike scene: "Was it about now in the show you started liking this?"; Rainbow on screen being callous: "Why did you buy that one?")

*sigh* I...purposefully stopped myself from watching the episode when it came out, so I didn't feel Pony Withdrawal Syndrome during the break. (You don't wanna know...) But I don't feel like I have watched ponies at all. It was like watching an animated Christmas card instead.

Just started watching the show last week and already watched all of the episodes. I'm sad that I have no more to watch so I think I'll go re-watch them all. I can't make my roommates understand why I like this show, but whatever they already think I'm weird because I love Battlestar Galactica and Doctor Who so I figure what is one more show...

Have you managed to get them to watch some of the episodes? The friends that I can convinced to watch a few episodes both loved it after about the 3rd or 5th episode but the rest aren't even willing to give it a shot. It's frustrating but I guess they're the ones missing out.

Granted, Doctor Who IS a weird show. Liking it isn't weird, though.

Here's a tip for getting people interested: Go to Youtube, find some stupid clip of the show with audio from something else added to it, something that they like or would recognize, if possible. There's lots of stuff. For me it was these two:

So I just finished getting through the first 11 episodes. All today. Through "Winter Wrap Up".

So far "Bridle Gossip" is my favorite episode and Pinkie Pie is my favorite character. Though I had actually decided that she was my favorite, and that "whichever episode has the deep sexy man voice Fluttershy" was my favorite, before watching a whole episode.

And... I don't dislike Twilight Sparkle, but I can't imagine anyone considering her their favorite character. Or if they do, they're probably not a brony. They're probably a little kid.

Anyway, forget the older fanbase. The little kids of today should be grateful they have this show.

(Side note: During credits, I see ads for "Pound Puppies". "Shelter 17" sure sounds like a Half-Life 2 reference to me.

Most of my friends think sci-fi is weird. I hate it, I cannot any of them to realize that sci-fi is a legit form of entertainment for adults and can actually provide material that is meaningful thematically.

I consider myself a nerd but none of my friends or I are anything like her. She's a bookworm, not a nerd in the new, cooler sense of the word.*

If she's the nerd of the group, then it's kind of for the same reasons people dislike The Big Bang Theory.

It's hard to describe. It's like she's the one the writers tried to connect to realistic human personalities, but that just doesn't feel like it fits in that world. The other five are playful exaggerations but with a necessary ground to reality that keeps them from being too extreme. Twilight is like a normal person but with, well, almost some parody laid on top.

The reason I say little kids would like her is that she's the first pony introduced,,and I think small minds have a tendency to "default" like that.

Oh, I would like to add something to my previous suggestion: if a non-brony friend is a fan of Drawn Together, find a video of Twilight with Princess Clara's voice in place of hers. They share their voice actor so it actually sounds real.
