Alt text: I've been trying for a couple years now but I haven't been able to come up with a name dumber than 'Renesmee'.

I laughed at the names, but I don't get the alt text.

You can't go wrong with feminizing the names of popular snack foods: Tostitas, Doritas, and my personal favorite -- Cheez-Itiana.

I was a little disappointed that:

a) No one on this thread yet posted what the significance of the name 'Renesmee' is.
b) That, upon google search, I found that the name Renesmee was a twilight reference/joke.

Apparently, Renesmee is the name of a character from Twilight.

My sister and brother-in-law just dubbed their baby girl "Linux Nasser."

I would have done grievous bodily harm, and do immoral things my husband would fret about, if the comic had been amended to include naming your children after operating systems on this list.

I created an account JUST to express my disappointment in my sister's choices. AND they didn't even file a Sublicense Usage Request.

Wow, I assumed "Renesmee" was him taking something like, I don't know, "it's me, Renee" and mashing it together. How the hell does anyone even think of a name like that? Also, on the wiki article I got taken to, I saw mention of a "Team Renesmee". :shock:

While traditional, The Oxford Dictionary of English Christian Names is an inspiring source, which includes the names "Dit,"Bat," "Nump," "Drogo" "Mahershalalhashbaz," and "Dodo."

A Dictionary of First Names 2nd ed. (Oxford, 2007) may be an acceptable alternative.

I actually have an uncle who was formerly named Sean with it pronounced Seen, he legally changed it to Seen a couple years ago. Pretty cool guy actually.

That occurred to me too, but given his wife's relatively recent illness, I wouldn't bet on it.

These names sound a lot like what my babymama had on her list of possible names for our daughter. I remember "February" was on it, as well as a bunch of relatively normal names with the last letter or two cut off. I sure wish I still had that list... Cheez-Itiana immediately made me think of Chichen Itza, which always makes me think of Chicken Pizza. That would be a good name for a girl. Everyone (except various forms of vegetarians and boring traditionalists) would love to ... um, consume her, then lick their fingers afterwards.

I think the dumbest name would be "Name." Imagine all the scenarios, e.g. cop stops girl:

Name.
Right. What is it?

We were going to call our daughter Mimble after the Moomintroll character, but we chickened out and gave that name to the cat instead...

On a side note my friend got given a scifi baby names book... it was very funny and I highly recommend it for the nerd mum/dad to be. She named her child Conan. The little nerd in the making turns 1 today.

I actually registered to the forums just to make this post.

This was my exact thought when I had to force-watch this movie with my girlfriend, having had to stand the whole movie to a point where bella or whatever her name is just "couldn't decide" to name her daughter after the gay vampire's mother or t-shirt-less guy mother so she just went like "so I combined them both" "reneesme".

Only thing that got me going after such stupidity feat was, in fact, trying to think of even more stupid names myself too.

I'm embarrassed to admit I know this much about those crap books, but Corbo's right: Renesmee is the result of a violent impact between "Esme" and "Renee".

The author of the Twilight books is a devout Mormon, and I'm afraid this is entirely typical of Utah Mormon baby naming practices. Witness the actual names AldaVern, Brighamena, Miracles Precious One, DaLinda LaDale, and LaDonnaJosephriana, all for girls; and for boys, RoWayne, Mick BonScott, Jonborah, Djeryd Teancum, and Timberland Miner.
