crap sentence upon initial registration

"However, this board requires account activation, an activation key has been sent to the e-mail address you provided."

That should read either "However, _since_ this board..." or "However, this board requires account activation, _so_ an activation key..." or something else that is grammatically not crap.

That is probably default phpbb text. Or davean put it in there to mess with people.

I'd put it about 50:50 either way.

It's just a comma splice... the pedantic punctuation would be "However, this board requires account activation; an activation key has been sent to the e-mail address you provided."

Neither of your suggestions are ideal, as they suggest that one clause is causing the other, when instead they're simply two related facts.

Also: that's the default phpBB text, so the correct people to bug about this would be the people who make phpBB.
While no one overhear you quickly tell me not cow cow.
