Not quite as impressive as Samik, but in my defence, I've not been growing it for as long. I've been keeping it trimmed with beard clippers using a number 3 guard.

When all is said and done, and I am asked where my life went wrong -- where I turned from the path of good, to pursue a road of villainy, I will answer: the day I realized that the only thing my cheeks could produce was gross, ultra-sparse fuzz, and that my only real option for facial hair was the goatee:

And that doesn't leave you very many options, profession wise. I'm going with "artist with a penchant for the overcomplicated and esoteric" for now, but if that doesn't pan out I've got "supervillain" on the back-burner. Though I may have to shave my head for that.

Oh my goodness! That is a crazy beard, especially considering it's been under three months. I'd probably trim it and keep it significantly shorter, to be honest. It is pretty awesome, though. I would understand going a full three months before the dramatic trim.

Yeah, I crossed that line once 5 or 6 years ago. My wife still brings it up.

During my recent beard experiment, my wife came home and told me we were going to Target immediately, no argument. Apparently she didn't recognize me when I pulled my car behind hers during the morning commute. So, a beard trimmer was purchased.

Beard update: final edition:

Apparently there exists a level of beardedness after which one should only be groomed by a professional. Or at least not a first timer.

I tried to trim it, but nothing I tried looked right, and it just got shorter and shorter with every mistake...

Problem is, I'd gotten so used to seeing myself that way, now I feel like I look like a 16 year old without it.

With my beard gone, I went to trim my head, only to have my trimmer die halfway through. Looking like I lost a bet, and not wanting to wait a few hours for the thing to slowly charge, I dug out my other broken trimmer, took it apart and fiddled with it until it started working, and went to use it.

Without replacing the guard.




Sigh. I might as well shave my eyebrows off while I'm at it, and complete the look.

Well, dramatic changes are always fun. I suspect your eyebrows would take longer to replace than your beard.

Not in this case. I now look exactly the same as I looked three months ago when I began the bearding process in the first place. And now that I've seen the two looks on myself, separated by only an hour or so, I like clean-shaven Samik even less than before.

I just went to the super market, and saw some guy in the parking lot with a solid beard, and experienced an intense wave of depression at the thought of what I'd just lost.


So I'm going to begin growing it again, I think. Only this time, I'll go to a barber as needed, rather than try to tackle it with my own inferior skills and equipment. Or just invest in a better trimmer, maybe. We'll see. Whatever the case, I won't wait until the three month mark, when it's unmanageably unruly, to take the first crack at personal grooming.

Just frustrated at the three months I just threw away.

That sucks Samik. I'm sorry about the lack of beardedness. I had a similar thing happen to me the first time I grew a goatee. I was trimming it before I went to a party and totally effed it up. Had to shave.

I got one of these and have been quite happy with it. I have no beard right now but it's got some pre-determined length attachments that gave me a really smooth trim all the way around. My wife was able to recognize me again.

Sucks arse man. I had to get rid of my mohawk and dreads because I need a job, and the very day I cut it all off is the day I go to a party and see a guy with a foot and a half long, rainbow coloured hawk. I feel your pain, but hey, it'll grow back at least.
