Game type: Closed Speed: Turbo - deadlines to be determined later, roughly 3/1. Bastardry: None. Flavour: Undecided yet. Size: 7+. If I get less than 7, I will cancel it. There is no upper bound for the amount of players.
The setup will be PYPoké, which means that you can pick your Pokémon, and as such your rolename. Signups go through PM: PM me your 3 wanted pokemon, and I will pick one of them, and add your forum name to the "signed up" list. Actual Poké strength will have no relevance on the strength of the role. Originality with the pokés is very much appreciated, it'd be nice if we didn't have 5 signups all going Mewtwo/Mew/Pikachu. If something like that happens, I will pick your pokémon, and I'm not sure you'll like that . All eligible pokemon are in the picture under the name, which means the first 151 pokemon. In case you're not too familiar with Pokémon, you can view a list here. No knowledge of Pokémon is required to play this game, it's nice if you know the basics, and more knowledge may be favourable. I had originally planned to make this a set-up to more difficult games, but I'm thinking I want to go all-out on this one. New players are wholeheartedly invited to join, I'll gladly answer any questions not regarding roles.
The Rules:
Spoiler:
1. Don’t talk about the game unless it’s in this thread, or in an appropriately spoilered post in the Discussion thread. If you’re still alive, don’t read any spoilers. 2. All PMs need to be CC’d to me and webby, i.e. the mod and comod. 3. If you’re playing, you’re posting. Please don’t lurk - if you need a replacement, PM me. If you don’t post for 48 hours, you will get a modprod and a warning to post within 24 hours. If you miss that deadline or fail to post for 48 hours a second time, you will be modkilled. 4. Votes, unvotes and questions for the mod should be bolded. You are requested not to use bold text unless it is to me, emphasis can be put through cursive text, or underlining, or I'm sure there's some more creative stuff to put emphasis that you can think of. 5. Day is over as soon as there is a clear majority vote, or if the deadline has passed, or if I say so. If there is a single plurality vote by deadline, that person will be lynched. Ties and explicit "no lynch" majority/plurality votes will result in no lynch (but aren’t necessarily recommended). 5. When I declare Night, do not post in the thread. If you have a Night action, PM it to me before the Night deadline or you will not use it. 6. You may not edit your posts. Ever. 8. Rule changes and/or clarifications will be put here if necessary - as this is a non-bastard game, this will only ever be done to reduce confusion, not cause it.

Sneaky edits. Yeah, I'm in, as long as you maintain the turboness

I hope I made sure in the original post that it is originial 151 only.. I even included a picture for you to check. Celebi is #251, so uhm.. No, you can't.
Give him a break Weeks, it's his first game as a mod and he's got 13 PMs from different people. I doubt that yours stood out, and he answered your question perfectly politely.

<truthful> From players that are new on these forums, I'm having a very hard time indicating whether or not someone is joking.. Especially when there are no other indicators that they are. </truthful> But yeah, I've got a comod, it's all good.
I honestly thought Weeks' post was an obvious troll.
Otherwise, I would've mentioned earlier that my second-gen signups would've been Celebi/Pichu/Scizor. Then again, I bet if this were second-gen, everyone and their Clefairy would've picked at least two of those; Celebi because it's a cute legendary, Pichu because it evolves into Pikachu, and Scizor because it's an awesome warrior that can kill anything that isn't a Fire. End result is I probably would've ended up with a random 'Mon anyways ¯\o_O/¯
Pfft no. My choices tended to the obscure or otherwise unlikely to be picked, and my second gen choices would be the same. If I could remember some of them - my Pokeknowledge peaks at 1st and 5th Gen with a massive dip at 4th.

I'd have to agree with conman (assuming he is talking about racebandit thinking that everyone would go with at least 2 of his theoretical choices based on it being gen. 2) I would suggest dunsparce for conman in that situation as in my opinion it is probably the most forgotten about pokemon there is, and wouldn't agree with racebandit because there are plenty of other options with similar reasons (Entei, Feraligatr, Ho-oh, Suicune, Typhlosion, and Tyranitar to name a few, or most as the case may be) and someone would probably pick wobbuffet for the obvious power they would most likely be given.

Bah, I forgot about a whole bunch of other 'Mons when making my assumption. Not to mention that in my sign-up I was assuming Tim and Webby wanted exactly three 'Mons, so if that was the case, all of second-gen's additions probably would've made such matches even less likely. Having factored in some of the other 'Mons, though, I would end up having to roll for my second-gen signup since I would add Ampharos, Typhlosion, and Raikou to my list.
I'm not even going to talk about third-gen and up. I have nothing against any of the generations (except maybe fifth- for not continuing any evolutionary lines), but I don't want to derail this any further from first-gen.
Speaking of powers, though, I'm not exactly expecting any passives since they weren't added until third-gen. I'm also not expecting one-shot abilities since they'd probably come in an item form, which wasn't until second-gen. Then again, PP has always been in the game, so if we have limited uses of each power, I bet that's why.
I think it might be beneficial to us, knowing that we only have to account for 1st gen pokemon, to each individually spend some time preparing speculation about what powers certain pokemon might have and any other things for starting discussion day one, and we probably shouldn't be discussing anything game related at this point as the game hasn't started yet.

The term Legendary Pokémon generally refers to the 'mons which are powerful, have no evolutionary lines, and exist only once per copy of a game (or are restricted to special Nintendo events). So in Gen I, that would be Mewtwo, Moltres, Zapdos, Articuno and Mew.

I had a shiny Charizard once. The kid I was playing said we weren't playing for keeps, then when he beat me, decided that we were...
That was about 15 years ago. Bastard.

I think it would be funny if someone got magicarp, and they ended up being a multi-shot kill immune jester, who if they get lynched after running out of kill-immunities, evolves and masacres every one else who was alive at that point, ending the game.

A more convincing definition is breeding; legendaries cannot, under any conditions, breed, and any pokemon that cannot possibly breed is a legendary. The birds + Mews are right though. @ConMan, matt, please don't discuss anything that may be interpreted as involving the game.. It's quite a long time till we start (I think roughly a week) and I don't want discussion to start before the game does. Sorry for being a bit strict on this.
Um.. Would you mind using the post button a little less often? I'd like this thing to have <9000 posts when I start it. Apart from that, Nidoking can breed... And I probably should have thrown "nearly everything" > "everything" (Ditto is another exception)

<sarcasm>So Nidorina and Nidoqueen are legendaries?</sarcasm>
Uh, wow, I actually didn't know this until I looked up some scans on Serebii. Apparently they can only breed until they evolve into Nidorin@, and then they're neutered.
Looks like that old "You learn something new everyday" adage still holds true! XD
Weeks wrote:<sarcasm>Also Moltres dies to a stealth rock, how is that a legendary</sarcasm>
You're mistaking Legendary for competitive battling's Uber-tier. Ubers are 'Mons with stats, movepools, and/or typings so powerful that it's difficult for other 'Mons to kill them. One example of a non-legendary Uber is Garchomp, a Ground/Dragon from fourth-gen that's practically built to do physical sweeps, even having the base speed to match it. However, it's quad-weak to ice, which Weavile (also from fourth-gen) gets STAB (Same Type Attack Boost: +50% attack power) access to while being faster than Garchomp.
This is why my HeartGold rotation contains a level 100 Weavile.
Anyways. Smogonites use tiers in this order: NU < Gaah, when did they add B/W, RU, and BL2? Oh, whatever. They consider Moltres UU. I don't exactly follow them, though, so I bet there are reasons other than Stealth Rock 2HKOing it.
Since I have other plans with this thread, might as well discuss it here: Moltres is too slow to compete in OU, and SR is actually quite a big factor. Other factors include it not being able to boost, or have enough direct power to hurt stuff. Being walled by any bulky water in ever doesn't work.
May night actions be declared before night? Is "Listener" a possible power?
Asks the second one for general sanity, despite being a role question. Ignore it, if desired.
Night actions may be declared before night, or if you already know it, already for the next night.. Just make it very clear when it needs to happen and all will be good. Due to the fact this is a closed setup, I will indeed not answer the second question.
Erm, it seems Resistance has taken a swift turn to the finish, so impromptu stuff it is. Signups will be open for 3 more days. Shortly after that, this game will start. Oh, and please, please keep the game discussion out, still

Sorry about that, but I couldn't exactly tell you the game was about to finish while you were still playing in it.
