Mouseover: Dot Tumblr Dot Com, on the other hand, would be an awful name for a band, if only because of how hard it would be to direct people to your band's website.

It's still a better band name than "Hedgeclipper."

When I showed this to my wife she said "I bet there is a themostrandomthing.tumblr.com." Oddly, there wasn't.

However I now have my stop watch out and will report how long it takes for one to appear.

I can't find it now, but there was also a great bit about the worlds hardest email addresses to spell, for example:

Man, the things you have to take into account when naming bands these days. Just think how bad any of these would be:

The Polka Dot Band ... thepolka.band.com
Angry Colon ... angry:.com
Red Slash Band ... red/band.com
Red Polka Dot Slash Colon Band ... redpolka./:band.com

I wonder how many recent bands have failed because no one can enter the URL?

I figured it was the I Ching he was looking at. Hexagram -41 = hexagram 0 -41 |base64 = hexagram 23, ䷪ , "Po – Splitting Apart (Breakthrough). Above – KEN – Keeping Still, Mountain; below – K’UN – the Receptive, Earth". Nothing about a lake.
Even worse: "THE JUDGMENT for SPLITTING APART. It does not further one to go anywhere."

The Red Dot Colon Band sounds like it should be something medical, or at least medical equipment, for something painful.

I like "Angry Colon." Would the music be geared to angry teens/twenties or to geriatrics?

Another suggestion: Band Name = Width

...Posted that, then thought: if Band Width, how about Band Age? Band on the Run? Band Width the Runs? And we're back to Angry Colon!

Back in the K-Tel 70s, I always figured the best name for a band would be "Many Many More". Every single K-Tel compilation LP (also available on cassette and 8-track) had an ad with an announcer rattling off the artists on it: "KC and the Sunshine Band! Elton John! Bachman Turner Overdrive! and Many, Many More!"

Either they'd have to change the format or include at least one of my band's songs on every album, or they'd face charges of false advertising.
