19-year old male from New Hampshire. I graduated from high school last year, but I'm taking some time off before I go to college (in fact, I'm only applying just now). I'm planning on studying cognitive science. I've also got an interest in languages (took Latin and German in high school, currently taking Mandarin classes, and I'm trying to teach myself Russian and Arabic).

I do a fair amount of theater. I took violin lessons since I was 5, and switched to the viola in middle school, but I've dropped both.

I occupy my spare time surfing the Internet and playing various old video games on emulators. I could spend time playing Magic or D&D, but I'm too introverted to even attempt to join a group. I realize it's a bit hard to tell, given how much I differ from the stereotype, but I'm actually rather geeky.

I've been reading xkcd for about six months, and lurking on the forums for about the same amount of time. I've finally decided to create an account and post for a reason that the scientific community has dubbed a "whim."

I break rules. (Apparently.)

Actually, I'm really good about following the rules, in a civic sort of way, except I speed--the gentleman's ten--though not through residential neighborhoods. Hey, I have cats, too.

My name's Max Slowik, I'm a Franco-Swede-Ameri-Pole, with Jewtholic heritage and I'll take offense at the first sense of humor. Then I will drop my rifle and run away. For Lent. To my submarine, where I will be the first to sell kit furniture on the Sun. Oh, it's some kind of Jew furniture, I guess.

And I will never, ever, misspell anything nor make a single grammatical error.

23 year old from New Hampshire, although I grew up in Los Angeles and went to school in Massachusetts.

I was first introduced to XKCD a few months ago, when a friend sent me a comic, and I immediately sat down and read through all ~300 comics in one sitting.

I'm a mechanical engineer according to my diploma, and I spend my days surrounded by physicists. Despite my degree, i've also dabbled in electronics, programming, astronomy, music, education, and math. Hobbies tend to come and go as time permits, but over the past few years I've devoted inordinate amounts of time to robotics competitions (5 years in FIRST, and I helped found another competition), riding roller coasters (138 so far), model rocket building (some day I'll fix my exploded rocket), and catching up on all those movies I should've seen but never did (thank you Blockbuster Total Access!).

I also like useless trivia. Did you know that a group of hedgehogs is called an array?

Hi :-) i know stuff and don't post much :-)

If you need to know stuff on almost any topic other than personalties in sport, feel free to ask me.

I am studying science in neuroscience and psychology and i have a background in electronics and telecommunications.

Some time ago, new scientist had an article on the dangers of violating space treaties by putting weapons in space.

They mentioned that the USA was investigating the possibility of dropping a tungsten rod from orbit, as a devastating weapon and that other countries wouldn't be happy with such a powerful weapon hanging over their heads.

My first thought was to imagine a white hot object, trailing flame, falling at meteoric speeds into a huge stadium for paying customers. I would pay about $100 to be in that audience :-)

Start with fireworks, end with a man made meteor! sounds like a fun night out.

I hope that gives you some idea of my personality :-)

I'm male, i like explosions :-) apparently it has something to do with the Y chromosome dissolving over the generations :-P

If you haven’t heard why the Y chromosome is dissolving over the generations, feel free to ask, like I said, I know stuff :-)

Brandon Sanderson, fantasy novelist, xkcd reader. Joined because a while back, somebody mentioned one of my books in the book thread and I was too lazy to join to post a thank you. Finally got around to getting a profile a month later.

I'm posting here mostly because the rules told me to! I can follow rules, yes sir I can.

Hi guys, My name's Matt, from the tip of Australia.

I LOVE xkcd, the best comics on the interweb ever ;)

I've actually made a short, 5 min film for film and television in school, bringing to life, several chosen xkcd comics. I'll up to youtube or something when it's finished, within the week.

Hope to enjoy my stay here hehe

Hi folks, let me introduce myself, I'm another human from Earth. 31 years old, male, based in Newcastle Upon Tyne (in the UK, North East of Europe).

I'm working in a call centre taking inbound tech support calls for a government website (and on a government contract, got to love that!). In my spare time I'm working on a CS degree, playing Runescape (and a little WOW), and hanging out with my husband.

I tend to distrust authority, and I'm a strong supporter of the individuals right to whatever they like (although the right to swing your fist ends just in front of my nose).

My favourite XKCD comic by far is http://xkcd.com/241/ (Battle Room) - I love the Enders Game books, but I'm still looking for someone (in reality) who would understand the cartoon if I showed them it.

I'm not sure how much posting I'm going to do - I've started reading the coding and CS forums, and my husband has recently become active elsewhere - but I when I do post I'd rather not be accused of being a spambot (while it would be nice to be a robot, I don't like advertising through any medium).

Hope you all have fun here, I look forward to arguing with you later.
Moose.

Interests include programming, programming (programming), finding ways to goof off. I'm currently shooting for a GED and going to college thereafter (hopefully.)

As the old joke goes...

Postby Sinfully Delicious » Thu Sep 13, 2007 7:10 pm UTC

I'm myself, except for when I choose not to be (which mostly means onstage). I live in the US. I really fancy kosher dill pickles and bacon, and I eat like a pregnant woman. By that I mean I get random cravings and then refuse to eat because I'm nauseous. Which reminds me of another fun fact: my body hates me.

I'm twenty, I enjoy both sexes, I like to write and play barefoot in thunderstorms and make your mom jokes, I thoroughly enjoy being vulgar, and I am currently reading forums in lieu of doing my Stats homework.

Hi.

A/s/l as a good place to start, huh? Well, hello then.

I'm a 27 year old astronomer blokey working in London, though thankfully I'm not native round these parts. What that actually means is that I spend lots of time coding and whatnot, so I get to spend time on that crazy interweb thing while stuff is compiling (or running). I can't remember when I was introduced to xkcd (by another astronomer, no less), but I've been reading for a fair old while.

I think I first came over to the forums on a hunch about the 'Dream Girl' strip, and came in to see what you lot made of it. Since then I've been sort of watching how that's turned into a big meetup; it's funny how these things grow from the smallest seeds.

Generally I like being able to help when I do miraculously actually know something useful, hopefully without coming across as condescending or arrogant or anything in the process. Which is why I signed up today, because I'm in that kind of well-meaning-but-probably-interfering mood, and am off to the science folder next to see if I'm that extra cook. Or alternatively, to see if I can just make a fool of myself, which is at least as likely.

Also, I waffle a lot.

If I say something bad or get too carried away with something give me a slap and I'll apologise; I don't mean to be nasty, it just happens sometimes. Like an unintentional but spontaneous slap in the face.

Hello, the name's Ian, I'm relatively new to the whole forum thing but can't imagine it being too hard. Me in a nutshell: Truly open-minded, I love music, art, and generally everything.
I came across XKCD a while back actually, might've been a year or so. I was trying to find the number to They Might Be Giant's Dial-a-song when I came across a link at the bottom of a Wikipedia page that lead me to the Color Codes (#227). So, yes. Glad to be here.

So where to start? I'm 22, just moved to Texas from the metro-Atlanta area for a career change. I've been reading XKCD for a while now, don't exactly remember when i started, but just now found the forums while I was bored at work one day. Awesome stuff.

As for what I do, I'm a programmer for a tech company specializing in Cisco products and deployments. I enjoy in my down time: fiddling with my guitar, breaking/fixing my laptop/desktop, reading, listening to $random music, surfing the intarweb, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Oh, and long walks on the beach. My interests include: computers, programming, linux, .NET, mindless entertainment, and kittens.

That is what the suit is for.

Note: Yesterday I wore a suit for a job interview, and when I walked down the street I increased my stride length, swung my arms vigorously and gave authoritative looks at everyone and thing. I felt like a real businessman.

Note: I've never actually seen a person wear a proper suit, and look natural.

Hello everyone. My name's Jake and I just found out about the introduction thread.

I'm 22, a student double majoring in Communications and Philosophy at the University of Connecticut and I have a sleep disorder. That means I stay up late at night bouncing from Fark.com to xkcd and back. I just recently discovered the forums and I'm soaking up everything I can find.

If anyone else is a night owl and likes to talk about fun and interesting things, come find me on AIM (CoolBeansJake). I love late-night company.

Hello everybody,

Name is Yves, male, 26 from Paris, France. I usually go by the pseudo Yvanhoe or Iv (sounds like the English pronunciation of "Eve", meh, strange language)
Working as a code monkey in a small software company.

Long time fan of xkcd comics, I was looking for a place to talk about science, tech, and other seriously fun stuff that nobody around me seems to enjoy. I never really figured that xkcd forums would be full of twisted-like-minded people. Duh.

I am interested in Artificial Intelligence, enjoy coding, read a lot of SF reading and sometimes try to write some, am a fervent Singularity believer, don't think I am a spambot (or advances in memetics or AI has been faster than I thought)

What Gordon said, minus the wearing them all the time part. I overheat easily, so I find suits uncomfortable in what you humans call "cool room temperature"

Anyway, Suits are cool, and they make the person look cooler. Even crappy suits make the person look cooler.

If you can pull them off, suits are amazingly hawt. Hawt spelled incorrectly, even, because they just up the hawtness factor that much. They are like a +10 on the hawtness scale.
