This isn't part of the "official" September shindig.

However clerria brought it to my attention there are a paltry 3-5 of us who happen to live in Tejas, who are also active members of the fora.

that said, anyone here wanna meetup the night of (or night before if it's most convenient) the official jazz... get a bit inebriated(if you're into that sort of thing, like i am), take pictures and whatnot, to share with those new english folk what they're missing out on by holding a meetup so far away?

Mods or Those in Charge of the goings on Here, everything K.O. if we do decide to hold an unofficial fora meetup?

Anyway for those of us who reside in texas sound off if you're interested.

Unofficial meetups are strictly prohibited by the Terms Of . . . wait . . . what the fuck do we care what you do on a Saturday night?

But I would be willing to drive to Dallas or Houston at the furthest. Don't tell my family, my mom is upset that I won't drive 5 hours to visit home.

No problem, your mom and i aren't talking right now anyway, i never called her the next morning

I'd vote we hold it the night before if we get enough slackers to agree to such a meetup, and i also vote austin, i would take the train out there, as i've always wanted to ride on a train, and i've always wanted to get my drink on 6th street.

Lets see what kind of response we get, but i'd like to do it Saturday 22'nd if at all possible, if not i'll make my way wherever on the 23rd as well.

Seems reasonable. If I'm going to have a drunken proxy fest, I'd rather not have to work the next morning.

i just saw a thread where le4d signed his name to an edit, and plus the statement is anecdotal.

I'm in New Mexico, so Texas is a lot closer than the east coast...

I seriously doubt I'd be able to go, but if it's happening I'll try, dammit!

Also, a bunch of my friends just moved to Austin to work for Blizzard...I could use an excuse to drive out and see them. And drinking is ALWAYS a good excuse.

ok we have 4 yays, that's enough for me, to make the Drunken Proxy Fest "official".

Lets do it then.I nominate Saturday, September 22nd, This will not be of the magnitude of the Cambridge Meetup, more like a mopey feet kicking sulk-fest for not being able to join the rest of the crew in "massachoosits"

Problem is we all(the 4 of us, thusfar) need to agree on a time/place asap so we can solidify "plans".

I'm down for any of the 4 major cities or somewhere between them, but am partial to houston, or austin. (i really want an excuse to go on a train ride)

Gah, the 22nd is my roommate's birthday, so I can't really skip out on that.

Still, after all is said and done I could still drive out and get there Sunday morning...I don't have class Monday, so that wouldn't be an issue.

Also Albuquerque -> Austin -> Albuquerque is 84 gallons of gasoline...

Unfortunately, I'm currently working Saturdays and working late enough that it's going to be hard for me to make it there .. which I very much regret because a roomful of Austin xkcd'ers is something I've been wanting to see for a long time ..

We got a week to see who else is interested, besides incessant lurkers like ourselves.

As I said earlier, if it's Saturday I absolutely can't make it, but I honestly wouldn't mind driving 12 hours on Sunday to get there.

My big issue is rationalizing the cost, as well as the fact that I have a lot of homework to do (I COULD always do it during the week) and I'm also going out of town this weekend and the weekend of the 30th...constant traveling SUCKS.

I'd of course need a place to crash, too, but as I mentioned I have friends in Austin I could concievably stay with.

if we drunken proxy in austin, i plan on getting a hotel/motel room for a night so i won't have to drive anywhere, as for getting to/from the bars? That's if i don't take a train out there, i really want to go on a train ride.

Walking around downtown last night was amazing. The weather was gorgeous. So gorgeous that you don't even realize how perfect it is because there's nothing to complain about.

Cops are crazy about drunk driving in Austin. It's much better to walk around or take a bus. They don't mind drunkies on the bus. In fact, they have a free bus that runs from the University campus straight to downtown most weekends... Pretty smart idea.
