470. Made this one in MSPaint, which is why I couldn't set the text rotations properly.

Exactly. It would be terrible for this to turn into another PUA trainwreck when obviously what you're meaning to say is this: (Spoilered for possible suicide triggers. And badly drawn cheese)

Nicely done. Is this your first Xkcdsw? Welcome to ITT where we made xkcd slightly worse :)

You just need to make it bigger thou. I understand what the comic is about from the art, but quite frankly I can't read the text. :(

1. Click to make it bigger.

2. You missed the point entirely. Namely, that you need to put your image in a spoiler and preface it with a trigger warning. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you didn't know better. Essentially, since suicide is such a loaded subject, some people may have strong negative emotional reactions to it. It's customary to put things like that that might upset (trigger) someone in a spoiler and put something like "Trigger warning for suicide" before it.

You are not. For two reasons: the archive is intended to be chronological by ID and posting date, and having current comics uploaded into the middle of that would kinda throw that a little. Also, it's an archive of this thread, as opposed to an archive of the SW concept in general.

The backlog can be worked through at a reasonable rate, posting automatically once a day, as long as I get around to filling the queue before it runs out. For a few weeks now, that hasn't happened. I've plugged about 15 comics into the backlog now, and I'm only seven pages behind you guys. Still in August though...

"Do you just not check the queue?"

I do automatically receive an email when the queue runs out and a "new post" fails. The next scheduled failure is after Easter, so hopefully I'll get some time over the long weekend to plug the queue some more.

"What can I do?"

The queue is comprised of a CSV file, built manually. You can, if you really want, build portions of the CSV starting here, on page 160. The CSV format is:

Code: Select all
SWID,"ImageURL","Title","Poster",UnixtimeDate,"AltText",Source1,Source2,..,SourceN

For example, the last 'sw on page 159 is in the queue like this:

Code: Select all
3444,"http://forums.xkcd.com/download/file.php?id=30829&mode=view","Empirical","GenericAnimeBoy",1314344366,"By the third trimester, you will be forming hundreds of babbys...",943

So page 160 starts at #3445. Just post any CSVs you feel like doing here, and I'll try to pick 'em up; just be warned that it's data entry, and I do enough of that in my day job to get bored of it real quick. You may become afflicted with the same issue.

TL;DR: There aren't enough hours in the day. Thank you for perservering.

Getting about half of this can be done via automation.

Ie, building an Image link, poster name, and a link back to the original post. Ordered by posting date, checked to make sure that there aren't duplicates. Maybe even get the posting date to turn into a unix timestamp.

Could split out an edit box with a partially filled out entry, maybe with a frame containing the original post, and next/previous buttons that advance/retreat. To keep things simple, it should not deal with the XKCDsw number (you can add that after building the file).

Then you can build a line by copy/pasting the alt-text, title and sources.

Collect said lines, and then add in SW numbers at the front. (I say do this last, because the above method will have false positives if done naively).

I estimate this will only take 2 to 10 times longer than doing it manually. But it would be more amusing.
One of the painful things about our time is that those who feel certainty are stupid, and those with any imagination and understanding are filled with doubt and indecision - BR

Aye, I've experimented with this in the past. It turns out that you can only reliably get the date for a given post: that's always 100%. The "poster" for an image has, on occasion, been someone other than the person making the post, so that's 99% reliable.

Anything else is too variable: the image is either directly in the post or an attachment, 50/50; some posts have no alt-text, some have it in italics, some have it with "Alt-text:" in front; some posts contain sources, some link to sources, some require original research.

It'd be amusing to build a soft-AI which could deal with all those conditions, but I'm supposed to be at work...

Yeah, I liked the sandwich one.

But there's no upvoting here, no real individual views per post. Attachments.. might have a view count, I forget.. but that tells you nothing about who liked it and who disliked it, just that it was viewed.

That said, this thread moves in waves. It's currently in an ebb. It'll flow soon enough.
