Lulu's shield feels very gimmicky to me and Whimsy should have a much stronger slow effect to make it worth using on an enemy instead of an ally.

I laned against a good Ezreal/Lulu combo yesterday as Ashe with Soraka support. Skillshots everywhere made for hard juking. Pokes were happening as normal but as soon as Lulu landed a slow, she would immediately hit me with polymorph and Ezreal would pop in for a full combo, leaving me with no response. I'm pretty good at dodging skillshots so I ended up winning lane in kills and breaking even with cs but we went on to lose the games with top and mid failing lane.

Late game Lulu's shield and ult combo made turret diving easy for them. Even when a non-tank was ulted they just strolled right up like a honey badger, it was pretty ridiculous.

Drumheller769 wrote:On Lulu, Ive only seen her 3-4 times now, and I have to say Im not impressed. Her damage is easy to ignore, her shield doesnt seem as good as Janna's and she doesnt have a heal. The polymorph can be nice, but I would rather have a taric or ali stun, since those actually stop movement.

A big bonus to having the slow and disable on different skills the added utility. Where Taric can stun, Lulu can disable and slow the same target almost achieving the same effect but with Lulu's effects spread across the 2 skills, during teamfights she can use them on two different enemies, use the buff versions on allies, or a combination of the two. She has a lot of utility and I'd put her on par with Janna/Sona as far as teamfight usefulness.

Edit/Update: I was in an all yordle "for funsies" game today and I ended up in bot lane as Teemo and the Lulu decided to try and carry. She built attack speed/on-hit similar to a Teemo build and holy crap did she hit like a truck. That extra pixie shot needs a 3-6 second cooldown added before too many people figure this out.

I meant to say that I'd been watching the VODs from the season one championships at Dreamhack. It's surprising/interesting how much the meta and the game (in terms of champions and balance) seem to have changed since then. Fnatic were mostly steamrolling everyone with the dual AP lineup.. both of the two games in the final involved Brand vs Irelia, which was interesting. However, it was nowhere near the level of m5's domination. Some of their performances at IEM Hanover still blow me away: I can't count the number of times I said "holy shit" or "what the fuck" whilst watching them the first time round. Well worth a watch, if you haven't seen them yet.

On Lulu: I've only seen her twice. The first time, she went AP mid (where I think she did alright), the second time she DCd. Judgement has not been made yet.

Lulu seems meh mid since she can't kill the enemy. She doesn't have a stun or a snare, and crappy burst compared to mids like Annie or Ahri or even Lux. On the other hand, she seems unshakeable mid. Her E and W together make an extremely good counter-engage, and a slow that can be aimed all sorts of funky ways to hit a ganker and the enemy mid. She seems equally unshakeable in bot as a support, which is how I've played her. Game I remember was me supporting a Kog against Ashe/Ziggs. Kog was decent at dodging Zigg's shots, and E and Q helped him when he did get hit. If I got hit, W on Ashe, E on me, and a Q that hit one or both helped me escape. Their Voli jungle camped top most of the game, and every time he came to gank, he leisurely strolled through my wards, so we just backed up. Our top (Jax I think?) was losing because he was camped and our Lee didn't help him a lot. Our mid Swain got some ganks but was just bad and Ahri stomped him. Lee Sin spent a lot of time ganking bot for us though, and Lulu is good in ganks. R on Lee Sin, E on Kog or Lee. W on Kog to help him chase, or on Ashe to make tower diving super safe. Q is even more slow. Got a kill almost every gank.

Despite our top and mid doing poorly, we got enough dragons and kills bottom lane to be safe. Then hey, it was a fed Kog'Maw. Lulu's ult works amazingly with a good initiator. Her R was more than enough to help Lee survive to use it's slow to initiate well. Q can hit a lot of the enemy at once. If they try to dive Kog, W on whoever I'm most worried about. If not, W on Kog (swain wasn't worth it). That + Shurelia's and my FoN and Q's good cooldown helped us chase. Lee and Kog carried pretty hard, so we won pretty decisively, and I ended 2/2/25.

Lulu is just entirely forgettable. She makes it really hard to last it when she is your lane partner, and auto attacks stuff because of her passive. I cant think of any team where I would want lulu over karma or soraka.

Yea, the auto attack thing really pisses me off. It screws up last hitting and there isnt much lulu can do about it.

Why would you ever want karma? I'd rather have just about any other champion in my team than karma, even if they are playing support.

Why is Lulu last hitting? That sounds like a player problem. It's not hard to simply not autoattack as Lulu.

She's nothing like Karma except that they can both mid. Karma shouldn't really be played as support really, she doesn't do well with 0 CS unless you have Singed or maybe Shy on the team. Lulu's absolutely totally nothing like Soraka. Lulu is an aggressive support with a shield, an autoattack buff, a slow, a supergood counter-engage, a movespeed buff and a delicious ult to participate in ganks. Soraka adds nothing to ganks, can't harass enemy champs without pushing the lane with her Q, and doesn't have a good way to support aggression in the early game.

They're both maybe better with an AP bot and AD mid, I guess. (Soraka for E and Q, Lulu for W.) Lulu is most comparable to Janna. Very high skill cap support with a shield that has an attack buff, a slow, some form of CC on ult, both very good at protecting a carry.

I did have an amazing game with a Lulu (a ranked game, actually, since I hit 30 recently) where I was jungling Amumu. She would wild growth me during team fights and I would dish out what felt like Singed levels of unkillable trolling. So I like her better now provided her player is smart.

Played LoL again for the first time in months this weekend. I did enjoy it. Don't understand Swain. He's supposed to be awesome, but I got demolished. Had a really nice game with Karthus though. Three(or maybe four) double kills with his ult.

I completely disagree with the Soraka stance. I usually maintain bush control unless I'm facing an Alistar/Vayne combo and the silence harass is pretty strong as long as you auto just before. Your heals are the strongest so as long as you are properly warded and don't get caught, you can poke faster than they can heal up.

As far as ganks are concerned, while you don't have the same measure of hard CC that Sona and Alistar do, a well placed silence can prevent lifesaving flashes and other escape moves and your armor buff on the heal is made for helping junglers tower dive to finish a gank.

I cant say enough about proper ward coverage and control though. It's important with any support but doubly so on her as she is sooooo squishy and you have to have them to do any real poking. I find myself taking CV with fairy charm and 3 wards to start, at least one of which will be pink to blind them. I spend more than the average person in wards but I'm never ganked. I place one between their exits at dragon always(helps mid too) and a pink anytime they drop one in our bushes or in riverbush if one of their team took teleport. CV is used mainly for tracking the other jungler.

The competitive scene was still pretty young then, the top players are learning a much wider variety of champs and as a result comps. m5 is amazing to watch, they're really good but I think TSM has stepped up their game (if IPL4 was any indication). TSM looks super strong right now and Dyrus is still pretty new to the team.

I'd guess it was someone on the other team who you were beating horribly, and he considers Karthus to be a "noob" champion because his ult, being very high damage with unlimited range and an automatic hit, "requires no skill". Never mind that knowing when to use it does require skill and that it is just one part of Karthus' multi-part kit.

I hate the new Riven skin so much. Hey, Riven didn't have a fanservicy skin THAT HAS TO BE CORRECTED.

There's not even like, a Sexy Fireman Jarvan or an Underwear Model Ezreal for balance. (I would buy either of those so fast.)

To be fair, it's a business. I imagine either of those skins would sell fairly poorly compared to the riven skin, and they have people working to develop these skins, so they're obviously going to be looking for maximum ROI. There's no guarantees that making one of the ones you suggested wouldn't sell well, but it's a lot higher risk for a projected lower reward. At least they've always been very open to skinning player mods, so if there isn't one out there, there's no reason you couldn't make one of those as a skin yourself. As seen in a past situation or two, if it did ridiculously well and you could get the community behind it, there's a chance of it making into the real game.

In general I'm not a fan of any skin that looks really out of place in the srs bsns action, such as the new Riven/Vayne skins, brolaf, surfer singed etc. Although, saying that, gentleman cho'gath is awesome.

I haven't watched the final of IPL4 yet, after watching just about all the other matches. Waiting on a chance when my friend and I can watch it together with a beer. Some tactics that I remember which were interesting, Dignitas triple-support protect the kog'maw/corki team was very effective but seemed to attract a lot of hate from spectators. I don't understand why people get upset at a particular tactic if a team picks champions that will lose lanes and the early game so they can become unstoppable later on seems perfectly legit to me. CLG's poke team-comp which they used against Dignitas was fun to see, although Dignitas had completely the wrong setup for it (Nidalee,AP Kog'maw, Caitlyn, Janna, Shyvana vs a team which had mordekaiser in it, can't remember the rest of the picks). I'd rather
Spoiler:
TSM
hadn't won it to be honest, after watching some of their streams Reginald comes across as a complete Tool and flames his teammates the majority of the time.

It appears I've hit a wall with my ranked solo play, I keep bouncing between 1600 and 1630. The games I lose in general are closely fought, but sometimes I go on a 2-3 losing streak because of complete troll picks, which completely negates the rise of closely fought games I've accomplished. For instance I was 1630 yesterday but I have just lost 3 straight games because of people being completely unwilling to pick normal support champions. 2 of the games the support player completely countered themselves as well, what's the point in playing nautilaus or blitzcrank support if the enemy team already has a soraka and I've picked Ashe? (no healing reduction means they survive the burst then just sustain while waiting for a gank as we've pushed so far up the lane) And in the last game our last pick decided on support GP against Janna and Kog'Maw... /facepalm.

It also seems a lot of games get decided by whether or not everyone gets their preferred lane. It's pretty obvious if someone has been forced to play jungle or top and that isn't the role they usually play.

Actually it was during champ selection, and it was blind pick so it was one of my teammates. That upped the wtf factor.

TSM wouldn't win as well, partly because I tend to find their fans obnoxious, and Dyrus is such a friggin' showboat. Not a huge fan of CLG either, but I at least respect SaintVicious as a great jungler, even if he can be a supreme jackass.
Impressive matches all around though. I think they could use some improvements in the stream though. Some of those casters are not very good, the host seemed... pointless, and the interviews with players felt awkward and forced (just like all sports!).

I've been playing a ton of Twisted Treeline ranked recently. Mostly because I only have 2 friends that play consistently anymore. It's impossible to get a group of 5 together anymore (who wants to be my friend?!). 3's has been going rather well though. I can't bring myself to do solo queue too often because I prefer jungler, and that's a nightmare. Anything goes wrong, and it's the jungler's fault. Things have been going slightly better since I decided "You know what, no one buys enough wards (if any). I'm going to keep 5 on me at all times." I would love to have a wards placed stat post game.

I seem to remember there being a shirtless Mantheon skin? Doesn't make up for the plethora of female fanservice skins (Kitty Katarina, bunny Riven...most of the female champs' base outfits...), but at least it's something.

IMO, the quality of the bunny Riven skin isn't very good; I mean, come on, you could have at *least* updated the sword model so it looks like a proper carrot, rather than just kinda coloring it orange and calling it a day.

Agree with just about everything you said.

The commentator, I think his name was "Hatperson", was particularly painful. He didn't seem very knowledgeable, both about the game and the teams he was watching, and his chat just seemed very awkward. The camera work also left a lot to be desired. I don't know who was controlling it in the 2nd Dignitas vs CLG game but it was fucking awful, they never kept the camera still, even when all 10 players were clearly visible on screen. In fact the only commentators I could really stand were Phreak and Rivington. I must admit I stopped watching when there wasn't a game being played, wasn't interested in awkward interviews or the repetitive adverts and kpop.

I was also looking for a Dignitas win for the same reasons. I quite like the CLG EU team after watching them stream some of their scrims as they play very professionally without the egos which seem rife throughout the top teams. Unfortunately they seem to lack the edge that would allow them to compete at the same level as TSM/CLG NA/aAa/M5/Dignitas etc, here's hoping they can step up their game.

And yes, not enough people buy wards. Mid / junglers seem to rarely ward the ramp up to the blue jungle, and if your botlane is pushed up to the turret it doesn't matter if you've warded the tri bush, you're still fucked. In one game, despite out CS'ing the other teams vayne 50-30 at one point, the enemy jungler kept going up our ramp and through tri allowing vayne to catch up. Cue our mid flaming cause Vayne is fed from the ganks which would have been easily avoided if he'd warded the ramp. It's far too much to ask the support to leave the bot lane for so long to ward that ramp and really needs to be done by the mid or jungler.

The only friend-of-a-friend I know that plays LoL isn't on much anymore and I'm not nearly 200 ELO above him which makes duo queueing difficult.

Yeah, Hatperson was by far the worst. I didn't mind most of the others. I think Dan Dinh did well, but Phreak and Rivington are easily the best. I had promised a couple of friends a WoW-level-a-thon on the weekend, so I just had the stream up the entire day.

As for warding blue ramp, I'm guessing you're speaking right outside of dragon? That's always a bot/support ward spot I think. At least that's where I normally see it. As jungler, if I see it's not being warded, I'll take care of it, but normally I think Bot does. Definitely never mid, I find it's hard enough to pull a mid from their lane already, even when it's to feed them blue.

I'm fairly certain I play at roughly a 1400 elo area. At least, when I look at people I've been queued with, that's usually their general area. Ranked I'm only about 1300 in the few games I've played. I feel like I've been doing worse lately though, and I think it's because I've been listening to the lanes more when jungling. At least when I'm playing a lane, I never *expect* my team's jungler to help. If he shows up, it's a delight and appreciated.

Um, the ramp that goes up to the blue wraith camp above dragon pit. By blue jungle I meant the blue teams jungle, not the blue buff ramp. Blue team being the team in the bottom left corner, I think that's where we might be getting confused.

EDIT: I uh, "feel" like Dan Dinh quite well too.

EDIT EDIT: (I didn't really, once I noticed he kept saying it I couldn't stop hearing it and it drove me mad)

EDIT EDIT EDIT: My dislike of M5 just increased somewhat. They got completely dominated by mTw and one of their players just couldn't accept it and quit with "bg" at the end. Classy. I'll stop editing this post now.

Yeah, like I said, I liked m5 in the first tournament. I kinda lost respect for them after that little shenanigan, though they did put out an apology. I didn't notice the Dan Dihn thing until I saw a video after the tournament, so it didn't bother me.

And now that I know where you're talking about, yes that is definitely a jungle/mid ward spot. Mids never ward though. And if they do, they usually just ward the side brush, which I find to be mostly useless. Move it up, give a bit more vision, and as long as you're map aware, an earlier warning.

What I said about m5 only just happened in the 4PL tournament (stream (also Guardsman Bob is best caster although he can be a bit slow to react with the camera)). I was aware of the shenanigan that your talking about but you'd think they'd have learned after that incident, but no...

Yeah, I was completely unaware it happened again. I didn't know Bob did any casting, I'd only watched him play. He's definitely my favorite streamer to watch.

Got all my champions back, and 2000RP as compensation. I wonder what to buy..

Edit: Just had my first full wipe, all 10 players dead. A great 30 seconds, waiting for anyone at all to respawn..

Lulu makes sort of a sick ad carry. Her passive gives her a large amount of damage, her ult, shield and polymorph means that no champ can 1v1 her, and she is awesome at chasing since she has a 300 base damage 80% slow on like a 3s cooldown.

Lulu is kinda sick no matter what role she fills. She does fine as support, jungle, top, mid, or AD carry. I'm not sure that's grounds for nerfing, but I wouldn't be surprised. I haven't played as her yet, but from playing with/against her, she's a real friggin' bully in lane. She also does a a good bit of damage in teamfights with little to no items.

I recently discovered Jungle Mundo, and I think I've lost 1 out of maybe 10 games with him. My 'main' jungler is Shyvana, but Mundo blows me away with how fast he is. Having a real gank tool and an ult that allows for ridiculous diving is nice as well. I often myself with my jungle cleared wondering "alright, what now?" I feel I need to go back to Shyvana and see if I can recreate that experience.

I had the most miserable experience last night. I pretty much ended up on a team with 4 horrible people. Spoiled for lots of complaining.
Spoiler:
I think that it was two duo queues. First pick picked MF after 3rd called AD bot (on teemo). Second went Lee Sin jungle, third still insisted he was playing Teemo, and so he went bot, and built AP instead. Fourth went Mordekaiser top, and I got left with mid, which I don't really like, but whatever. I wanted to play Vlad mid since I just bought him, but enemy was playing him. Lux is my normal mid, but I felt a little more comfortable on Annie against vlad, so I take her.

Thing is, none of them were truly horrible players. They were just really horrible people. MF facechecks the lanebrush at level 1. Against volibear and jax. Lives with flash. Gives first blood a few minutes later, and the flaming starts. Teemo and MF bitch at each other for the rest of the game. Vlad and I play a hardcore farmfest. He's of course slowly starting to win, since he can take harass and heal it back, but I'm not falling too far behind in CS. I die to a gank and tower dive at some point. Bot lane refuses to buy wards, Teemo claiming shrooms do just fine. WW ganks them twice, gets a kill each time (they blame each other.) They're just losing hardcore. The Lee sides with MF, and the Morde sides with Teemo as they bitch constantly. Meanwhile, Morde dies twice to Evelynn top lane. He then starts taunting her for her low CS. Vladimir starts flaming Morde for losing to Eve. Lee dies in jungle to blue buff, and WW makes fun of him.

The game continues like this, with my team constantly bitching at each other. Vlad and Morde are also keeping up this insultfest, with Morde insulting Eve, and Vlad insulting Morde (later in the game Eve starts to speak up. Seemed nice enough, Morde was a massive dick, so I don't fault her the light flaming towards the end.) WW is camping top and counterjungling Lee like crazy. At one point Lee insults WW and brags about stealing his wraiths, while WW walks away with his blue. I never get a blue the whole game except from a kill. Lee comes mid for ganks occassionally, but never bothers to coordinate with me, so I don't have stun up, and vlad just Ws away. Later he starts to feed, and Vlad gets 2 kills off of him. Vlad goes bot while I have to back, I ping like mad, bot doesn't pull back, Vlad gets double kill.

By this point, the team is literally stopping in the middle of the lane to type out their insults on one another. Morde by this point is starting to pull ahead though. I start DCing, and do that several times, but by this point, eve and WW have fed Mordekaiser enough that he just roams and builds up more kills. We lose a few teamfights because the team is too busy yelling at each other, but I also get some nice stuns in with Tibbers, and Mordekaiser is just a fed Mordekaiser, and we eventually win.

I'd rather have lost with a team of decent people though.

Thoughts on lulu as support after a few games.

1. Doesn't work too well against opponents with sustain. Chances are you'll run out of mana harassing before they run out of health whilst they've got a heal support or some lifesteal. This may be due to the fact that I wasn't duo-queueing and if we'd coordinated our attacks more the harras could have gone a bit better, so I think it could still work, especially with someone like graves/vayne who can make up the distance with a spell without leaving them with no escape option (like trist's jump).

2. Her spells remain amazingly useful in late game. Don't think I really need to explain this in great detail. One thing I will say though, is that her ulti is likely to be more useful as an initiation tool on someone like Mao or Shyv and can cause havoc. I don't think it's so great to use on your carry unless it's as a last resort.

3. With enough cooldown reduction you can keep one of your allies almost permanently buffed with your W. Also great for running around the map warding.

4. Difficult to learn. First couple of games it's hard to know when to use what spell and who to use it on.

In short, I will be very surprised if she isn't either first picked or banned in coming tournaments (barring crazy tactics)

@omgryebread (why isn't your name omgreybeard like I thought it was?), sometimes it's really just best to ignore everyone, keep calm and carry on. Before I knew there was an ignore tool I would vote yes on surrenders even if I knew we still had a good chance to come back simply cause playing with these people isn't fun in the slightest. I rarely have good experiences of playing with duo-queuers, especially if they insist on bot laning together. Generally they think they are the best and make stupid plays when they should play safe, don't pay a lot of attention to the map and will flame when their lane starts to fail. It's also a double whammy cause I like to play AD/support.

No matter the game, I'd rather lose with a team of people who are working together and being supportive of each other's efforts than win with a team of people who aren't communicating, mocking each other (and the other team) and just independently doing the things they do very well rather than trying to assist a teammate.

There are definitely times I've considered throwing games, just because the knowledge that this person that is raging super hard is going to be even MORE pissed off is more satisfying than actually trying to win the game. The ignore tool is definitely useful though. I've gotten to the point where certain comments get an immediate ignore from me, the most common being some form of "Are you ever going to gank [lane]?" when I'm jungling.
"Top is prime gank material." "Noted, coming shortly."
"Could you cover my lane?" "I'll come in gank style and you can back. I'll even the lane out."
"Are you ever going to gank [lane]?" "Nah, there are things in my jungle to kill yet."

I find the last one is almost universally used after having just attempted a gank elsewhere, when I'm giving blue to mid, or when I'm already behind due to aggressive counter jungling.

I don't deliberately throw games, but I definitely stop trying so hard. It takes a good amount of mental focus to be pushing to do as well as I can, and when I start feeling like I don't care if my team wins, I switch over into autopilot mode. I confirm that's what is happening if people start saying stuff about the way I'm playing.

Yeah, I've never actually thrown a game, but I find myself thinking "I don't want this person to win..." Auto-pilot mode is definitely a good descriptor for it, where I just don't think things through, and don't really care about the outcome.

Could be a good time to initiate a bad team fight, and then practice your escaping/juking skills!
