reddit is a "hey check this cool thing" site where people more or less agree on certain standards of content, and whatever is above them is shared and supported; discussion is secondary, I believe. That's why it's called "the front page of the internet". More of a content hub than a forum.

Just a quick thought, but it would be nice if you could upvote/downvote a post and only the poster can see the stats (Possibly allow the person to choose whether accept upvotes/downvotes, being disabled by default). Sometimes I'd like to acknowledge something, but don't feel it's worth the post space. Just posting, "I agree" is almost a negative thing given input to space/time taken ratio.
