Religious Wars? Nah, that's for Mac vs PC fights.

You want Serious Business and News and Articles for the cesspools. Though Az has fixed SB more or less, so the biggest hive of scum and fallacy is News and Articles.

Particularly any thread about Israel/Palestine. Which, thanks to Sourmilk, is sometimes every thread.

Hi all, HULK happy to discover xkcd has a forum -- yay for a new time-sink! HULK mid-20s, female working in software, seeking entertainment, likes outrageous people, loves the pure sciences, enjoys quirky humor, annoyed by people who can't tell the difference between "they're", "their", and "there", hates run-on sentences...

If English isn't their first language it's really truly understandable.

Otherwise...come on, at least the contraction should be easy to spot...

Hi, I'm Sam, and I'm not a large, flightless, hairy-feathered bird.

500/emu/English, French, or any language for which I can get my hands on a dictionary and grammarye. Oh, wait, l means location? CA.

I registered hoping some kind person could direct me to a policy on using a xkcd comic as a t-shirt decoration. Is there any way to buy the right to one-time use or to get special permission?

xkcd is released under a cc-by-nc licence... which means you can use the strip for anything, as long as you (a) give credit, and (b) don't use it commercially. So making a shirt with an xkcd strip on it? Great! Selling said shirt? Not so great.

Hello I am Matt,
Some things you should know about me.

I derived my username from Latin not from harry potter.
I don't capitalize names I find unimportant.
I like bacon much like the rest of the community.

It's important that you capitalise nouns you do find important, so I fixed this for you.

Bacon tastes kinda okay. Often too salty. But certainly not something worth killing over. It's not chocolate.

Right, hi there everyone.

Long time lurker, first time posting. So, random facts to prove I am not a spambot:

I'm a 26 year old guy, living in London, but not originally from here. I work in the wonderful fields of private education and freelance research...the former involves mostly babysitting foreign students by being the resposible adult who tells them to clean their rooms, not drink out-of-date milk and other trivial matters, and the other involves being asked questions, and then getting paid for answering them. The particular kind of research I do is political science based, and so the questions are sometimes... odd, but usually interesting enough and not too difficult to look into.

Although I have a Masters in International Relations, I find 90% of politics to be pretty uninteresting and obvious, so I don't really comment on it much. The other 10% I do find interesting is usually obscure enough that no-one else finds it interesting or worth talking about. Also my interest in it tends to border on obsession, which will be useful when I decide to apply to PhD courses.

When I'm not at work, which is entirely too much of the time, I like to wander around London, acting like the complete tourist I secretly am. I think I've exhausted the possibilities of the major sights, so I'm now working on some of the more obscure yet notable things around. Like, for instance, the graveyard where they buried Jeremy Bentham is about a five minute walk from my flat. And there is a hidden bar on my street, which you need a password to access.

Anyway, I look forward to contributing to the forum. [insert comment about buying Viagra, gold watches or links to Canadian pharmacies here]

Like suddenly struck by a lightning, I just realized that I registered my account over four years ago and never wrote a single post (but lurked here and there quite frequently). When, if not right now, is a good time to change from passive into active mode? Right! So here I am.

I'm a (hopefully) soon-to-be physicist from Germany, currently starting with my diploma thesis (and thus having a lot of time to kill and clearly nothing better to do than hanging around in forums or elsewhere in the web). I would also call myself a hacker and nerd (and yes, other hackers and nerds do that, too) and since, as so often, I have absolutely no idea what else to write, I will just stop here and press "Submit".

Hullo internets!

I'm Sharpy, unfortunately some uncouth person had the audacity to steal my rightful username so I had to bang a the 3k on the end. I'm a Scotsman of the original flavour, enjoy a bit of banter with the English (cheating <swear> ************* ******** </swear>) and am into my random science because it's awesome. I'm new with the forum posting and thought now was a good time to start.

Cheers to all!

Okay, I guess I'm technically not lurking anymore, so here goes:

I'm Norwegian, meaning English isn't my primary language, so I spend a lot of time on dictionary.com whenever I post here. I work in IT. I never specialized, preferring to be a jack of all trades, which means I'm usually not the right guy for the job as it turns out. Also, I regret not studying the hard sciences when I was younger. I had no interest in it then, but I do now. I do have a very logical mindset though, so I understand most of the 'sciency' stuff I read or am told, I just don't have the basic understanding that you need to formulate ideas on your own.

One summer I read the first semester curriculum for the bachelor in psychology at the university here for fun, because the subject fascinates me.

I like most geeky stuff and also a lot of stuff that isn't usually considered geeky. I suppose I could be even more abstract and just say 'I like stuff'.

Also, I'll still be mostly lurking, I guess.

some post to get out of premoderation...

I'm from Ukraine. my English is bad (especially tenses), so watch out (and feel free to correct me). also i'm not fan of capital letters.
because of low english reading/writing speed, i can't participate in every discussion. bad for me :(

that's all you allowed to know. to know anything else, you can figure it out or try to ask me.

and one more thing: usually my nickname is gamecreator, but unfortunately it was already occupied.

Hello all. I've read the comic and lurked for many years, and the Umwelt one has drawn me out (curses!). So, well, greetings, I spend too much time online and too little time asleep, I'm nerdy but think I should be nerdier, and my favorite animal is the noble yet humble hedgehog. I went to MIT, where someone first showed me xkcd. Now, for my sins, I larp, run guilds in an MMO, bake compulsively, and spend way too much on rent for the privilege of living in the Boston area. Science is also tangentially involved.
