I have honor.

You are correct!
Unfortunately, you should have put your votes first. Penalty.

You see, by the rule that I am trying to overturn, both Froggy and Tim's most recent posts were breaking the rules, as they did something other than vote first. I did vote in §01.03 the second time it came round, thinking maybe I had been too negative before - but it's really a killer.

Over the weekend I have had a lot of free time to play, as you can see from my frequent posts, but during the working week I can frequently only pop on briefly for a few minutes at a time.

What if I need to pop up just to announce the next step in a judge I'm duelling? Or I'm Fiery, and I need to arbitrate some rules? Before I can do either of those, I'll probably need to figure out what all the active motions are, figure out an opinion on them, calculate the new vote totals, and write out my vote cast. By then I've run out of time, so I go away and come back later. I try again to do my brief action, but discover there are three new motions... and so on.

I'm not against incentivizing people to vote - I see the problem. But I think we need to find another way to do it. The current rule makes playing Nomic a full time job.

There is a rule that says you must vote before any other action is allowed.

As soon as someone posts a new SotN it will be much easier.

Also, in this post two motion were passed, and a new motion made, but the wiki wasn't updated, so Odin gets a penalty (or possibly three?).

I'll update the wiki now.

I'm not going to post any actions until the next state of the nomic as I don't know what needs voting on, but I recommend the chess move Nxe4 for Black.
I cast my vote in favour of Spikey's motion to make it easier to play just a little Nomic at the time. (Now 2 for, 1 against)

I cast my vote in favor of Odin's motion to return points for failed lotteries. (now 4 for, 0 against) Motion passed, Odin awarded 8 points
I abstain from voting on Spikey's motion to make it easier to just play a little Nomic at a time (now 2 for, 1 against, 1 abstain)
While I like the idea of not forcing players to make lots of votes everytime they post, we do need some way of getting enough votes to pass or refuse motions. Until we have a way of getting that, I can't vote in favor of this motion.

(penalized Fiery 4 points for missing votecount)
(charged Spikey 20 points for Double Down perk)
(awarded Spikey 8 points for passed motion)
(awarded Tim 4 points for passed motion)
(charged Spikey 8 points for investment)

Investments:

(charged Tim 6 points for investment)
(penalized Tim 4 points for not voting first, and then returned him to 0 points)
(awarded Tim 1 points for guessing correctly)
(penalized Carey 4 points for making a chessmove when it's not his turn)
(awarded Carey 1 point for guessing correctly)
(awarded Odin 8 points for passed motion)
(awarded Fiery 2 points for State of the Nomic Post)

I abstain from voting on Carey's motion to be a Bookmaker (Now 3 for, 0 against, 1 abstain)
I move 11...Nxe4
I make a motion to create a limit of 5 active motions. If there are 5 or more active motions a player may not make a motion. For the purposes of voting, this motion will be referred to as Patzer's motion for an alternative method to encourage voting.

EDIT: Just noticed this: If you do one of the following actions you must update the AllMotions page of the wiki: Make a motion...
How do I edit it? I can't find an edit button.

FURTHER EDIT: never mind, created an account and found it.

If you look back, Carey's motion has not passed yet, and should still be under active, as the only votes on it since the last state of the nomic have been 2 abstains and one against, and based on the rules on the wiki, if my vote count was off, it was because Fiery's motion failed and Ahammel forgot to mention that. Also, INt€rN€t WaNd€r€R , you can't be the person to make the move for your team in the chess game twice in a row.

I abstain from voting on Patzer's motion for an alternative method to encourage voting. (Now 3 for, 1 against, 1 abstain)

Alex strikes, Froggy parries. Froggy scores a hit!

I guess Patzer will post next.

This is correct. The SotN has been edited.
matt96 wrote: and based on the rules on the wiki, if my vote count was off, it was because Fiery's motion failed and Ahammel forgot to mention that.

You wrote (3 for, 2 against) instead of the correct (3 for, 3 against)

I think I should have received my 5 points for 3 on-topic comments by now, so:
I buy: Investment for 2 points

If Fiery's motion to create recursion has 3 votes against it then it has failed. Rule §03.02: "If at any point there are three votes from three different players against a motion, the motion fails."

I think that Chia won the duel against Snarky by default, as Snarky has left. Does anyone want to contest that, or I shall declare Chia the winner?

What's happened to the other tournament duels? Here is the listing, in case people have lost track.

Also, the last State of the Nomic left out my Double Down perk.

I was also in a mousetrap duel with snark. How do I end that and still keep my honor?

That rule was amended to require 4 votes.

You're right. The motion said pass or fail, but the rules were only updated for passing motions. I have updated the rules on the wiki.

It would help move the game along if people who are abstaining or voting against motions could change their vote. We seem somewhat stuck currently.

Edit: On that note,

I change my vote on Fiery's motion to create recursion. I cast my vote in favour of Fiery's motion to create recursion. (Now 4 for, 2 against). Motion passed, Fiery awarded 8 points.

I make a motion to cancel all of Snarky's duels. For purposes of voting, this motion shall be known as Carey's motion to cancel all of Snarky's duels
