I was on ST's server for a bit today, and no one else was on to give me any ideas, so I ended up getting to work on a project I had in mind a while back. I am not sure what exactly the project is, to be honest, but I am currently calling it the North Bank Procurement Plan 861, for reasons that may be apparent in the following picture:

I have a vague idea about setting up a tree farm for each of the types of trees, but I can't quite figure out the aesthetics I want for it.

Edit: actually, I just realized that since sea level is block 64, we have 192 meters to work with for any sky scrapers. Considering one of my favorite buildings is exactly 191 meters tall, I do believe I have a project. (The building has a built in train station, so I guess I could build it anywhere and just connect a rail to it, but I think just north of the river works rather well. Roose, would you mind me making an extension to your Rifton Rail (once the tower is mostly complete, not now)?

Wam's station extension set us up for three tracks. If you finalize a location, I can start up on a rail.

I found one flaw with underground bases. When the game lags and doesn't load stuff properly you can see right through the ground and see the base as clear as day.

Not if they're on the surface and it's at bedrock level: the angle is pretty steep to make out a base. I've never really had any chunk errors when I'm underground, but that might just be me.

And ideally people will take the roleplaying approach of player knowledge vs. character knowledge... But not always. So yes, nothing's perfect.

So I was thinking, along with Freemond and BlueJello earlier, about having a mini-MA game on the ST server later on. We designate one of the continents close to pandora and set that as the limits for the game. Each player gets 1 unique block (sponge? something like that?) and build a fortress/lair/whatever to defend it. Being the ST server, we have the resources to build TNT traps, arrow dispensers, and stuff like that. Then we set rules like no breaking/placing blocks, no taking from things other than chests (i.e. don't take arrows from dispensers, unless something destroys them), etc. Basically mimicking what roos has been building all this time. So we defend it with jumping puzzles, mazes, lava/tnt/arrow/whatever traps, mob spawning rooms and whatever else we get our hands on.

We can use our usual honor system, so there's nothing to worry about. And we get to build the traps and redstone contraptions we always wanted to see in action, but can't on the MA server because people would just destroy them at the source, and steal everything. Instead of being a fight for all worldly possessions, we turns it into a game of building the best defenses. If we want semi-anonymity, we could chose nicknames that we use exclusively in the apocalypse continent. And we use signs liberally to mark out who did what, release tension, and generally have fun.

When we do it, the base that we make MUST be doable by the person who made it and you can remove gravity affected blocks used in traps.

And can we get the MA stuff onto the separate form as much as possible?

Normally I'd be the kinda guy to set that thing up, but seeing that several folks (myself included) can't/are too lazy to find a 1.23 jar, we'll probably have to wait until after the server updates.

Oh yea, I forgot about that problem, and I hadn't tried connecting to the server yet... At any rate we could get the rules more or less set up and the island it is going to be on from the map.

By the way, the server is empty as all... its getting boring! someone else get on and break the monotony!

As for the location, I am not sure if the southwest peninsula of Pandora is large enough, but if so, it is conveniently close and untouched (the place with the sign designating shipwreck swamp: it seems that no one has gone out that way since I scouted it out)

I never had a 1.2.3 jar... I stayed on the last version we used before it went down, then jumped to 1.2.4 when people started talking about MA. So I can't.

grab the technic launcher, it will download a 1.2.5 and downgrade it to 1.2.3 currently. technicpack.net

I believe that either NNW (according to the map) or the area of the easternmost tip of pandora would be decent places size wise to do it.

Also the sproutcraft launcher will let you choose a prior version that will let you downgrade.

That place NNW is the place I am recommending (In solar coordinates it is WSW of course). Maybe make the npc village a neutral ground?
SteaxRirez, if you can get your hands on a 1.2.1 or a 1.2.2 jar it would work as well (I am running 1.2.2 at the moment).

I would be up for the mini MA on the server too and I would be willing to give some people starting supplies. I'd have to check on the server again to see what I have, but I think I'll wait until it is updated. I think I could spare an iron block or two for people playing, some redstone, and a stack or two of either some stone, cobble, or stone brick. Something like that to help those who dont have tons of resources. This is obviously situation dependent once i check on what I have stored up.

Ok, the place decided for the mini-MA style gameplay is located here on the map, also, could someone set up a nethergate close to the village in the dessert? I believe that the plan is for it to be a gathering area.

Could we get some rule suggested? so far we have no placing or removing blocks and you have to protect a certain block with traps and such that are doable by the person making the traps. Can we make it so that you do not need to place anything to go thorugh the base (such as a redstone torch on a specific block or tossing a item to activate a pressure plate)


Bases: how do we want them set up and how far away from each of them. I assume that it will be build a over/underground base as you see fit that has a way in without breaking a wall.

First, I think we should pick a smaller/confined area. It becomes more fun when you see the fortresses spring up near each other. Maybe just the plains area of that region?

As for rules, I just suggest:
- No placing or breaking blocks, and no taking from dispensers , period. If you must leave something as you work your way in, like torches, be sure to remove them later as you leave.
- I was thinking our 'treasure' blocks should be cookies. Some players already have cookies, so we can seed the game.
- The traps must be passable by the owner (though not necessarily on the first try). "Really hard" is fine, of course, as long as it's somehow doable. We can use our usual judgement here.
- Leave signs in places to vent your anger and notes. Preferably also leave a signature on them.

This is also a great opportunity for us to make use of our resources and cobble generators. I know many players have a lot of redstone, we'll happily give it to other players. You can always generate cobble at the cobble jenny as well.

I was imagining a block of colored wool, and then player places it on a pedestal near the exit with their signature; then we can publicly see who's doing what. Cookies can be a reward too, though.

I think roos can be a judge. If it's too hard for IWBTS, it's too hard for anyone. (Or goal is to have fun, anyway, not entirely 100% absolutely defend our treasure. Someone could just cheat if they wanted the treasure that badly.. or just bring a piece of wool from the wool farm.)

I think cookies can be the main treasure, with wool further as bonus points/secrets/achievements. It has to be wool in a chest, too, not just placed wool.

So, 1.2.3 has some, how should I put this... Interesting undocumented features. These include:

1. Mob spawning ignoring player proximity.
2. Mob spawning ignoring light level.
3. Memory leaks! (slowly over time, spikes at death)

Also, seems quite a few of the plug-ins don't work, and bukkit warns it's out of date.

I got through it with like 300 ping, so I'd say it's just hard. The piston maze after that is just evil though.

The netherside gate for the mini-MA area is about -2225, -825

slowly updating (downgrading?) minecraft. Used tekkit to get the 1.2.3 vanilla then copied that over to a folder for the magic launcher to open and install certain mods onto it (optifine, a minimap). This should work acceptably

Due to current circumstances, among others the existence of dangerous threats appearing in broad daylight and rain, I hereby propose the construction of an automated Iron Golem (IG) manufacturing unit. They have been proven effective in watching the streets of Pandora against most dangers, and to seed this project I have placed 10 experimental IG units, as well as voiding the Testificate Protection Act, whom shall soon be reintegrated into society. Tests have been good with no IG units failing so far, and no testificates have been reported missing.

Since IGs don't take falling damage, and villages are only set to 7 meters of variation on the vertical axis, I suggest building it up in a building within the city proper, and completed golems can be flushed or dropped out. I also suggest the creation of facilities for workers, namely the Testificates, among others homes to dwell in during city nights, as well as the ability to seed our secret factory, should any workers decide to leave without notice.

(But yeah, seriously, mobs are spawning everywhere in the city now and I've been ambushed loads of times at night.)

I would like to put in writing my strong desire to build the tree farm. I've marked out an area, (SW of the industrial park across the river) it'll be functional within days and pretty by the end of the month maybe. I've had the plans for this in the back of my head for a while, and I really want to do it, so please, no one else do it.

Also, the thing in the nether by, I'm assuming, Roos, is pretty epic.

Wow tha mini MA island sound fun, I have an idea for it though. instead of everyone useing red wool, each dungeon builder uses a differnt color and we make an area near the NPC village set up with smooth stone bricks with signs of all the people that go there and when they finish a dungeon they can place that color wool on there block kinda lika a trophy. I dont thik if you have a dungeon there u should be able to use your color of wool on your trophy thats kinda cheating.

Jesting, will the tree farm have support for each type of tree?

By support I mean adequate spacing between the different types, as well as maybe having scaffolding for the taller trees.

I am not sure, but I think large jungle trees give the best wood output both in terms of saplings and bonemeal used, and in terms of harvesting time (provided you have a way up to the top). However, they are probably not the best output in terms of space, and you can't rely on auto-growing, so maybe it would be better to set up a jungle tree specific tree farm close to the skeleton spawner?
