Minor issues with new site design

Postby davidfstr » Tue Apr 10, 2012 5:28 pm UTC

I notice that the design for the main comic pages (ex: http://xkcd.com/869/) have changed. Two points I notice:

1. The example comics at the bottom of every page no longer has working links. Image

2. The menu in the top-left (with Archive, Forums, Blag, Store, About) looks a bit odd, with everything top-aligned. I'm not sure how it was displayed before, but it looked better IMHO.

In case it matters, my reference browsers are Safari 5.1.3 and Chrome 18 on OS X 10.7.3.

I agree that it looked better before.

Also, he removed SMBC from list of "Comics I Enjoy" which I think is a shame.

The current site design is a work in progress. It was rushed out because comic #1037 needed high quality HTML due to it's width requirements.

The removal of SMBC is because Zach is a *beep* or just a matter of how rushed it was. I can't recall, I was getting very little sleep.

There are a number of changes that will happen in the near future.

I also have an issue with the new design: it is centred on the current window size, even when the content is wider than the window. That means that if the window is narrow for whatever reason, it's possible to scroll to the right to see any content off the right edge of the window, but not possible to scroll left to see content that's off the edge there, because the content is actually rendered (partially) to the left of the zero point.

Looks great now. And SMBC's link is back.

Beautiful. :)
