He's apparently been taling about it privately for much of this year. It makes sense to me, I don't think he has anything else to do at Barcelona besides either stagnating or rebuilding from the bottom up for no good reason. A new manager can bring in new talent, and mould a new era for the club.

If there's one thing that's certain about UEFA, it's that they don't change their policies easily. It won't happen this year. It might happen next year, but I don't think it should. fans watch to see teams, not individuals. If there is a serious problem with understrength teams playing finals because they're missing players to yellow cards, maybe tweak the rules a bit. But the principle, that repeated cards lead to brief bans, is sound and shouldn't be changed.

Yeah, UEFA is quite stubborn that way and I agree that barring a few carefully considered exceptions, the rule should stay.

Congratulations to Southampton, back in the Premier League after seven years in the Championship. Now fingers crossed that Blackpool win the playoff, I'd love to see them back in next year.

I'd like to see Blackpool back too, though that's partially because I dislike all the other teams in the playoffs this season. Will be strange to see Southampton in the top flight again next season, well done to them on promotion though.

Thanks to Wigan, our point at Stoke (where I think only Newcastle of the top couple of teams have won this season) means we edge a little closer to the finishing line. Hopefully Chelsea and Newcastle can draw on Wednesday and Norwich can be as disinterested as they looked today when they play us next weekend. I don't want to see the European Cup final with Arsenal's European Cup hopes depending on the result!

If someone told me last August that Newcastle would still be challenging for a Champion's League spot in May, I'd have probably lamped them. And yet here we go, three games left, albeit a fairly tough run-in (Chelsea A, ManC H) and a poor goal difference compared to the Londoners we're hanging out up top with, but it's plausible.

Just watched the City-United game this morning, had it downloaded but had to go to lectures (here in China the game was played at the lovely time of half past three in the morning). Epic, both sides wanted it and City deserved it in the end, the little scuffle between Ferguson and Mancini made me chuckle as well!

The 2012 European Championships were heading towards a diplomatic fiasco on Monday after more EU leaders said they would join Germany in a boycott of the event next month unless Ukraine freed the opposition leader, Yulia Tymoshenko.

On Sunday, Angela Merkel said that she and her cabinet would not attend any games played in Ukraine, which is co-hosting the tournament with Poland, unless the human rights situation under President Viktor Yanukovych improved.

On Monday, the president of the European commission, José Manuel Barroso, and Viviane Reding, the commissioner for justice, said they would not be travelling to Ukraine either. The Czech president, Vaclav Klaus, announced he was cancelling a visit to Yalta, while Germany's president, Joachim Gauck, called off a trip to the same central European leaders' summit last week.

I really hope this takes off, and we see a solid boycott, as well as fan led protests. Ukraine was on the up in freedom and democracy terms when it won the hosting, but things have changed since. Let's make sure they don't continue this way.

Also, I hope I get to protest a bit, because that implies Ireland make it out of our Poland based group stage!

No worries, I just find the possession talk a bit ridiculous; hence the picture. My point was that regardless of how much possession you have, you need quality in the final third as well, which we obviously didn't have.

It wasn't a troll, it was actually very ironic. Chelsea fluffed the chances that would have made their possession tell on the scoreboard, which let a single opposition goal decide the match, with an emphatic last minute goal to seal it. In sdkelso's world, pointing that out about Barcelona's performance v chelsea is preposterous, and just sour grapes from Barcelona acolytes, but pointing it out about Chelsea losing in a similar fashion requires restatement of the "Barcelona LOOOOOST! Don't you get it?!?" argument.
