Why the heck is the silent hill thread 3 years old and 1 page long? Is there a more recent Silent hill thread that as far as my search tells me, didn't have silent hill in the title?

I recently got the 360 Silent hill HD collection consisting of SH2 and SH3, and I look forward to getting my hands on Downpour. It's my understanding that fans of the originals are fairly unhappy with some of the changes between the versions and they're kinda glitchy, but as someone who didn't play the originals, it's all a great experiance and the SH2 part at least doesn't have any game-breaking glitches.

I'm still working on getting all of the endings in SH2 as well as a 10* run before I move onto SH3, but it pleases me that I feel these games are still quite playable despite their age. The controls and camera are a bit klunky in a few areas, but it's tolerable, and the immense amounts of symbolism in these games is awesome.

I was about to ask you exactly what they'd changed and how updated the graphics were, but if you never played the original, you cannot help me.

It's not like I wasn't going to buy it anyway.

Downpour, in turn, looks interesting. Sortof...Silent-Hill-by-way-of-Alan-Wake. I liked Alan Wake, so I can't complain too much. I think I've reconciled myself to the most recent silent hill offerings (shattered memories, downpour) by just thinking of them as reasonably solid survival horror games, and not mentally connecting them to the first three silent hill games at all. By that standard, Downpour looks pretty okay.

Theres a (rather jaded) comparison that includes some back to back footage of the different versions here.

Wow. Okay. I just unmade my decision to buy that.

I didn't think much of anything could make me do that.

Sooo, I'm now on the final boss of SH3 on hard action mode on my first playthrough, and am feeling quite screwed.

I have full health, but no healing items at all, 30ish handgun bullets, 12 shotgun shells, and 64 smg bullets. This has proven to be highly inadequate, so I've been forced to basicly run in circles dodging attacks until it exposes itself, and get a single maul hit in before needing to run away again for fear of getting hit.

I just kept up that hit and run procedure for a full half hour, getting 40ish maul hits in before finally getting flamed to death (I can survive up to 3 hits, 4th will kill me), and this is rather disheartening, since seriously, 40 hits to the head with a maul should be more than enough. It's a maul.

I suppose it must be theoretically possible to do since I can usually dodge things, but oh god is this ever going to take awhile. (no pun intended  )

edit: I switched to using katana, and eventually beat the final boss with a final time of 27 minutes and 42 seconds (just for the boss, the overall game took a shade under 5 hours). Now to play with the various toys I've unlocked...

Yeeeah, boss fights tend to be absurdly difficult if you don't have ammo. I tend to conserve all my bullets for them.
