JSO, you do seem to be against me. However, if you plan to lynch me next, why don't the mafia just night kill me, if they see me as such a threat. This is assuming I am a threat, which you seem to assume as well. Also, on lynching eculc... I'm restricting myself to this: FoS eculc

He does seem scummy, not enough to earn my vote though.

JSO, are you a power role? You seem to have a reason to be suspicious of me. You either want me gone, or you want to look like you want me to be gone.

I've already put my opinion on this at first. It started off as a jokish test, but eculc started digging a hole for himself that I won't let him out of. I'll go grab the shovel.

Is this you claiming to have results from a night action that you were wondering if you should share with us?

Vote: ecluc
Because ecluc has made a post suggesting that he could be a SK, saying there could be a vig as a way to try to get out of watcher and/or tracker results, and has targeted my claim, basically saying that Snark might have not included Marvin in this game.

Also, any doctors shouldn't bother protecting me, my power is next to useless anyways, so at least me being targeted by a NK will stop us from losing a valuable power.

We seem to be pretty decided on ecluc (even our anti-bandwagonner is voting at this point). I still kind of worry that we're cutting off discussion too quickly. As a result, I really want to hold off on voting. I will try to look more deeply later to see if there is anything more to say.

Guys, can we not hammer 3 days before the deadline please? Still waiting to hear some kind of rebuttal from eculc (aside from "why are you so eager to lynch, JSO?")

cjquines wrote:JSO, you do seem to be against me. However, if you plan to lynch me next, why don't the mafia just night kill me, if they see me as such a threat.

Because mafia want to nightkill people who won't get lynched.

Don't mafia NK people who they see are a threat to their progress in overruling the town?

JSO, Fine.

matt, Perhaps.

And why are we starting a bandwagon already? Why do we have 5 day deadlines if you already have decided who to lynch? eculc, what is your excuse? What is your alibi? Why are you not rejecting our lynching? I need a recap: why are we planning to lynch eculc?

cjquines wrote:Don't mafia NK people who they see are a threat to their progress in overruling the town?

In general mafia will want to nightkill cops, doctors, other power roles, confirmed town, trusted town and scummy-looking town in order of preference. Lynching scummy-looking town is generally a bad idea, because it gives town fewer likely targets for a mislynch.

Also: it's generally counterprodcuctive to discus possible nightkill targets in-thread (e.g. "X is looking townie. She will probably get NK'd"), because this just introduces wine and make's the doctor's job harder if town has one.

cjquines wrote:And why are we starting a bandwagon already? Why do we have 5 day deadlines if you already have decided who to lynch? eculc, what is your excuse? What is your alibi? Why are you not rejecting our lynching? I need a recap: why are we planning to lynch eculc?

The charges against eculc are:

1) Trying to discredit matt's claim for no real reason.
2) Ditzy speculation that the the second kill might be due to a vig, despite the fact that that would mean the game is over.
3) Failure to mention the idea of a second scum faction (which is the most likely possibility from a balance perspective).

If we really don't have anything else to discuss and we don't hear from the accused, I'll come back in a few hours and hammer eculc.

Nah, it's not necessary to hammer me. why bother?

Roleclaim: Wowbagger, the infinitely prolonged. SK with a NK every odd-numbered night, increased to every night after the death of all
vogons, the only other group with a NK. Responsible for killing KrO2 N1.
Um, this post feels devoid of content. Good luck?

Votals:
5 - eculc (JesseScottOwen, DaBigCheez, t1mm01994, matt96, ahammel)

Well eculc, seems like everyone's got it in for you. What do you have to say for yourself? Oh you're a serial killer? Really? That's your defense?

Then I guess you're getting lynched. Not that the rope will hurt you much, you being immortal and all. But it should embarass you enough to make you leave and never come back. But I do hope you enjoyed your stay! You only killed one of your fellow passengers so I guess you weren't too terribly horrible.

Eculc has been lynched. He was Wowbagger (NK immune SK with NKs on odd nights, upgraded to every night upon death of both vogons).

Town wins! Vogons (KrO2 and Vieto), Wowbagger (eculc), and the Dish of the Day (mpolo) lost.

Congratulations town for such a quick win! Sorry the game got over so quickly. If you had mislynched D1 and a 'N1 NK had hit one of the lovers, the game could have gone almost as quickly in the other direction. Congratulations to ahammel for being the target of 4 night actions on N1; I'm not sure what you did to deserve that. :)

Thank you all for playing. If you have any suggestions or comments on the game setup, I'd love to hear them.

Shoutout to my co-mod, Adam H. He was a huge help in balancing the game and creating roles! Couldn't have done it without him.

I was Arthur Dent. Vanilla townie, with a lover, Fenchurch, another Vanilla townie. I think Tim was Fenchurch? We never used our Lover's chat, and it's been so long since I checked my role PM.

I survived though. :) That's pretty cool. I enjoy winning a game for once.

Nice game, Snark.

Dish of the Day - Jester

Role PMs:

Greetings and welcome to the Heart of Gold Mark II!

You are: Marvin, the Paranoid Android
You're an incredibly intelligent, incredibly depressed, robot.
As an incredibly intelligent machine, you have the ability to learn about other people. Once per night, you may PM the mods the name of another living player to learn either that person's role or alignment. Random.org will choose randomly between the two with equal probability. Your target will not be informed that you targeted them.
Unfortunately you're an incredibly depressed machine, and you refuse to accept help from anyone. As a result, you are unable to be targeted by a doctor.
There's a bit more good news however: being a robot makes being hung by the neck a rather harmless procedure. You are lynch-immune. Should you garner enough votes to be lynched (either by majority or plurality at day end), you will be declared lynched, but you will still be alive the next day.
Alignment: Town
Role: Role/Alignment Cop
Modifiers: Undoctorable, Lynch Immune
Win condition: You win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.

Greetings and welcome to the Heart of Gold Mark II!

You are: Arthur Dent, the Earthless Earthling
You're a normal human being in most respects despite your many other-worldly experiences. As a clueless human in an alien world, you're inclined to just sit back and watch all the craziness of the universe unfold around you. All that being said: you have no power role.
But here's something fun: you're in love with your soul-mate: Fenchurch. So in love that you can't live without each other. If one of you dies in game, the other dies instantly as well.
You and Fenchurch have day chat, but no night chat. Please include the mod and co-mod in all your communications.
You share the exact same alignment, sub-alignment, and win condition as Fenchurch.
Fenchurch is being played by <insert username>.
Alignment: Town
Sub-alignment: Lover
Role: Vanilla
Win condition: You win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.

Greetings and welcome to the Heart of Gold Mark II!

You are: Zaphod Beeblebrox, ex-President of the Galaxy
You're a two-headed, three-armed, altogether hip guy.
Being two-headed, you're awarded an extra vote during lynches. You may PM the mods your extra vote at any time, and may unvote and revote by PMing the mods at any time. When we receive a vote from you, we will add it to the thread votals publicly with the name "Extra Vote" as the voter name instead of your own.
Also, you're inclined to having a good time and often drag others along with you to drunken parties. Once per night, you may PM the mods the name of a person with whom you'd like to party. Your target will be roleblocked and will fail to use any of their actions that night, assuming they have any. Your target will not be informed that you targeted them.
Alignment: Town
Role: Vote-Rigger, Roleblocker
Win condition: You win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.

Greetings and welcome to the Heart of Gold Mark II!

You are: Ford Prefect, Researcher for the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
You're a man of the world, err.. universe. Being a researcher for the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has taught you to look out for yourself. But as much as you care about self-preservation, you're drawn to helping friends in need, and you're always willing to lend a towel to some strag that forgot their own.
Once per night, you may PM me the name of a player besides yourself. That player will be protected from death that night. Your target will not be informed that you targeted them.
Alignment: Town
Role: Doctor
Win condition: You win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.

Greetings and welcome to the Heart of Gold Mark II!

You are: Trillian Astra, an astrophysicist who left Earth to explore the galaxy
You've always been curious about the world around you. It's what prompted you to leave your planet and go jaunting through the galaxy with the infamous Zaphod Beeblebrox.
Being curious, you always have your eyes and ears open and you tend to learn a lot that way. Once per night, you may act as a tracker by PMing the mods the name of another player. If you track a player, you will learn who that player targeted during the night. Your target will not be informed that you targeted them.
Alignment: Town
Role: Tracker
Win condition: You win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.

Greetings and welcome to the Heart of Gold Mark II!

You are: Tricia McMillan, a mathematician who left Earth to explore the universe
You've always been curious about the world around you. It's what prompted you to leave your planet and go on a wild adventure through the galaxy with the infamous Zaphod Beeblebrox.
Being curious, you always have your eyes and ears open and you tend to learn a lot that way. Once per night, you may act as a watcher by PMing the mods the name of another player. If you watch a player, you will learn who targeted that player during the night. You may not target yourself. Your target will not be informed that you targeted them.
Alignment: Town
Role: Watcher
Win condition: You win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.

Greetings and welcome to the Heart of Gold Mark II!

You are: Random Dent, the daughter of Arthur Dent and Trillian
As a child brought unwillingly into a harsh world, you feel victimized and mistreated. Just once, you wish that everyone would leave you alone and believe in your innocence.
At any time during any day phase, you may PM the mods to have us announce your alignment. It will be stated beyond all doubt that you are town.
To reiterate, this may be used at any time during any day phase of the game, but not during the night.
Alignment: Town
Sub-alignment: Innocent Child
Role: Vanilla
Win condition: You win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.

Greetings and welcome to the Heart of Gold Mark II!

You are: Fenchurch, Arthur Dent's soulmate
You've never met anyone like Arthur. After all, the guy did teach you how to fly. You know and trust each other completely and as such you are Lovers. So in love that you can't live without each other. If one of you dies in game, the other dies instantly as well.
You and Arthur have day chat, but no night chat. Please include the mod and co-mod in all your communications.
You share the exact same alignment, sub-alignment, and win condition as Arthur.
Arthur is being played by <username>.
Alignment: Town
Sub-alignment: Lover/Mason
Role: Vanilla
Win condition: You win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.

Greetings and welcome to the Heart of Gold Mark II!

You are: Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz, Leader of the Vogons
You're evil and no one likes you, even other Vogons.
Vogons are a bureaucratic bunch and require forms signed in triplicate before even the slightest attempt at action is attempted.
Being the king of the bureaucrats, you may dismiss a player's actions based on lack of paperwork. Once per night, you may PM me the name of a person whose actions you'd like to nullify. Your target will be roleblocked and will fail to use any of their actions that night, assuming they have any. Your target will not be informed that you targeted them.
Your faction also controls a night kill. Once per night, you may choose someone in your faction to carry out your night kill. To do so, PM me the name of a person you wish to NK and who on your team is carrying out the kill. Whomever carries out the kill may also use their other action that night.
You and your partner have night chat by PM. Please include the mod and co-mod in all your communications.
Alignment: Mafia
Role: Roleblocker
Win condition: You win if only mafia-aligned players remain alive or if it becomes impossible for this outcome to be prevented.
False claim suggestions: Slartibartfast or Deep Thought (These characters are not in play)

Greetings and welcome to the Heart of Gold Mark II!

You are: Vogon Guard, Member of the Vogon Guard Corps
You're just a puny guard now, but you have dreams of being promoted to Senior Shouting Officer.
As a Vogon on the bottom-rung of the ladder, you have the job of being the bodyguard for those higher up on the chain of command.
Once per night, you may PM me the name of a person who you'd like to protect. Your target will be protected from exactly 1 action during the night. If more than one action is used on your target, the action you block will be chosen randomly.
Role: Bodyguard
Win condition: You win if only mafia-aligned players remain alive or if it becomes impossible for this outcome to be prevented.
False claim suggestions: Slartibartfast or Deep Thought (These characters are not in play)

Greetings and welcome to the Heart of Gold Mark II!

You are: Wowbagger, the Infinitely Prolonged
Being born a mortal, you find it hard to cope with immortality. So you've decided to insult every mortal alive. Somehow, this helps you sleep at night.
Once per odd-numbered night, you may insult/kill another player by PMing the mods their name. Being immortal, you are immune to all NKs. If you're lynched however, the shame will be too great to bear, and you will leave the ship/game immediately.
Alignment: Third-party
Role: Serial Killer
Modifier: NK immune
Win condition: You win if you are the only person remaining alive.
False claim suggestions: Zarniwoop or Agrajag (These characters are not in play)

Greetings and welcome to the Heart of Gold Mark II!

You are: The Dish of the Day
You're an Ameglian Major Cow who has been bred as livestock with a most desirable quality: You want to be eaten.
Your role is Jester.
Alignment: Third-party
Role: Jester
Win condition: You win if you are lynched. You lose if you die any other way or if you survive until the end of the game.

Game Notes:
1. Vogon Jeltz’s roleblock takes precedence over Zaphod’s roleblock. The Vogon Guard’s Bodyguard comes after both roleblocks.
2. Eddie is being played by the mods. Just for fun. Not as an actual character in any way.
3. The Dish of the Day gets no false-claim suggestions because it seems clear that as a jester, the Dish would want to claim what someone else has, as it greatly increases the Dish’s chances of being lynched.
4. The lovers have day chat only. Scum have night chat only.
5. Majority lynches before deadline, plurality lynches at deadline, ties are resolved randomly unless everyone is voting and the votes are split evenly among exactly 2 candidates.
6. Players will be made aware that anti-claim mechanisms are in place.
7. The SK will be upgraded from an odd-numbered night only NK to an every night NK if both of the mafia die. The SK will not be made aware of this unless both mafia die.
8. Marvin will lose his cop ability on nights that he is lynched. Marvin will not be made aware of this unless he is lynched.
9 The day/night division will model 5/2, 4/2, 3/1, 3/1 for nights 1 through 4.
10. The Mafia NK comes before the SK’s NK.
Changes its form depending on the observer.

Unfortunately for me, the scum slipped up too quickly and I couldn't come up with a way to be scummier than they were. I had realized that ecluc was almost certainly the last scum, which was why I was declining to vote, since I had to come up with a way to be scummy, but in the face of the evidence, lurkiness was never going to cut it. In retrospect, I shouldn't have supported t1mm's catch on Vieto. But I tend to play townie even when I'm not, I guess.

@Deva: Thank you once again. :)

@Mpolo: It's not that you're "townie" per-say, it's that you're consistent, so it's hard to tell when your scum. You're almost always a neutral read for me, which in hindsight I can see how that'd make it hard for you to play jester. There's always the fear of accidentally playing the Super Obvious Jester. Especially in this game where jester was in the rolespec.
If your afraid of the terrorists winning then the terrorists win.

I meant that I was playing townie in picking up on Vieto's slip (after t1mm pointed it out) and so to speak "leading the bandwagon". I would have rather not had Vieto lynched, but myself at that point. If the SK hadn't taken out the other Vogon, of course, I would have had a chance to try to stand out on Day 2 somehow. In any case, I played sub-optimally as a jester there…

Hey mpolo- here's a technique- Act like me! Spill wine everywhere, lie, lie, roleclaim and get counterclaimed.

The problem is that since I don't usually do that, it would stick out like a sore thumb. I did manage to almost get lynched on day one as a jester in Super mega crazy mayhem, but somebody went and day-killed me before I got hammered.

The other problem with that technique is the sheer idiocy of it. As can be seen in the Avenger's game, I am sometimes in favor of lying, spreading wine, and roleclaiming. I was actually playing for a win. You were just being obnoxious, so you were ignored.

Maybe if you keep it up, and it continues to work for you, I will be convinced that you know what you're doing and are actually worth something. We'll see.

I'm giving up smiling for Lent. Not really.

Please, please do not talk about active games.
Also, I'm personally quite fond of cj's playstyle.

I'll take that as a compliment.
JSO, you really hate me? That much? Wine grows better with age.
